William James Trading Co is a partner homebrewing supply with Daves Homebrewing of Belleville, Illinois.

They carry fresh selections of yeast, grain and extract along with full supply of homebrewing hardware and reference books. They were eager to order anything that I needed that was not on hand. Dave Nagle is an experienced wine and beer homebrewer and he and his staff were very helpful in putting together several speciality grains I needed for my Belgian dubbel recipes. I also found several Belgian yeast strains. I was given a 50% discount on a tube of White Labs yeast that was nearing its best by date. They carry a good selection of White Labs yeast along with Wyeast and Fermentus/Saffale.

A nice location near one of my favorite Illinois liquor stores - Granite City's Corral Liquors. Very friendly service and some inovative marketing that saves the homebrewer money on shipping.

Have been thinking about starting to homebrew for quite a while now so I figured I'd go check out what's available and what a setup would cost me. Since William James is right down the street for me, it was a great place to get an idea of what I need. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a really nice guy who walked me through everything. He showed me the setup, what was included in the beginner kit, and all the ingredients available. They had a nice selection of hops available and he said they could pretty much get anything I wanted if they didn't have it. They also had a nice selection of malted products to choose from. So a whole set up costs $169, which I think is reasonable. Plus, they increased their prices on hops only a little bit. Sounds like other places have increased the price of their hops by as much as 8 x's the original cost and these guys are only 2-3 times. That's really reasonable considering the hop shortage. In all a nice stop. Also supplies for wine making available.

Dave helped me out in a pinch when I needed some white labs yeast. Daves store in Belleville is the closest LHBS that carries White Labs, and I live in St. Louis, MO.

Dave and his wife were kind enough to stay open after hours and wait for me. His wife was also nice when I called at 6:15, 15 minutes AFTER they close and stay on the phone with me as I was lost in Belleville. She gave me perfect directions to the store.

Dave has a nice selection of grains, yeasts, and hops on hand. He gives regular demonstrations on site and has a rather diverse selection of adjuncts.

There is also a massive selection of wine kits available. Dave seems very knowledgeable in this area. He explained to me the difference between each one and had literature for each that I could take home and read.

Dave's wife sells essential oils and aromatherapy items, along with some other stuff I didn't check out as I was in a hurry.

His bottle selection was impressive, he actually carried some bottles that you cannot get at the big on-line stores.

Dave's is a place I would go if I needed some speciality items, like Oregon fruit pruee's or 375ml Bourdaux bottles. THe drive from St. Louis stops me from going there regulary though.

Last note, Dave charges a maximum of 8.50 for shipping. Doesn't matter what you order, your shipping charges will never be higher than 8.50.
