Dry and bitter like a good rye ipa should be. Getting some malt sweetness that lends itself so well to rye ipas, balances against the fruity hops used really balanced out the final product. Not too bitter.

On-tap at the brewery. Poured into a "teardrop" as they call it, but it's really a tulip glass, give or take.

Appearance: A nice dark ruby red color with mild haze going on, leaving little lacing and retention. The color makes up for that, however.

Smell: Huge amounts of spicy rye and dark fruit esters. Not overly assaulting, but the spiciness and citrus is great, with the hops working nicely with the rye.

Taste: I wish this beer had a bit more punch and body to it. Initial spiciness, but then the flavors don't stick around. As with some brews, the flavors kind of die in thin air, and though this doesn't do that, I was hoping the spiciness of the rye working with the citrus of the hops and fruit esters would stick around for a while. And unfortunately they don't. But it's still tasty, even if it doesn't linger.

Mouthfeel: Lighter to medium-bodied with a good crisp carbonation overall.

Drinkability: A kind of feast or famine type of brew. Was hoping for more body and lasting flavor from the aroma, but I was deceived a bit. That said, I still enjoyed it and would recommend it for a try.

I am floored by this beer every time I have it. Big flavor, unique mouthfeel ... great stuff.

Reddish brown color with the body carrying a fine haze. Excellent head retention.

The aroma gives you what you would expect - hops and rye ... they unite beautifully to make a nice piny/floral scent that hints at spiciness (as in rye spiciness, not nutmeg spiciness).

Huge bitterness on the tongue and pleasant dryness in the back of the throat. Taking big sips of this beer is quite a sensation. The spiciness might even make my send signals to my brain of the sourness of a pickle or mustard. I certainly wouldn't call this beer sour, but it makes you dream of the salty/sour elements of a Reuben sandwich.

It is an awesome hop-bomb that I could drink all day, any time of the year.

Love to try rye beer whenever I can. There are but a few hoppy rye beers out there and I seek them out. This one was labeled as Easy Ryder Rye I.P.A. Poured into a stemmed teardrop it has a dark orange color. Smells hoppy with a rye twang. Taste is a beautiful mix of sweet malt with a tinge of rye and hops, hops, hops. Hops in the nose, hops to battle sweetness and hops in the long, lingering finish. Had this beer with fried calimari over spicy asian hickama slaw. Perfect match.

Nice mahogany chestnut body like good rye bread crust. Cappucino/dulce de leche head that coats well as it fades. Body is quite clear.

Nice floral hops with good grapefruit texture backed by strong woodsy malt and rye - solid hop bomb aroma.

Hop bite is dominant here - bitterness from grapefruit rind has strong malt/rye backup adding to bright, somewhat piney texture. Slight aftertaste of bitterness.

There's a bright hop pucker that's very strong here - finish is short but uniform.

Borderline sessionable - hop bite is solid but balance may be in demand here. Nice effort - quite enjoyable.

On draught at the brewpub, served in a stem glass, Easy Ryder (RYE IPA) is a hazy, burnt dark gold with a small white collar that leaves medium lace.

Smell is strong, a big hop blast but plenty of peppery rye as well, hops are piny with cat-piss and mint notes, columbus and fuggles maybe?

Taste is mainly bitter hops, piny and rougher then the nose, amplified by the spiciness of the rye and alcohol (6.0% ABV). Pretty good taste but a bit harsh.

Mouthfeel is crisp and carbonated, with a medium body.

Drinkability is pretty good, nice boldness from the hops, spicy and not too strong, the taste is satisfying and makes you want another, although not having the time to do so, I can't comment on well a session would go.

On tap at Bukowski's currently. Labeled as Easy Rider IPA, but this has gotta be it.

A: Pours a golden straw like color with slight amber hints. Frothy one and a half finger white head has excellent retention and nice lacing left.
S: Crisp and fresh in the nose. Grassy hop notes and a good level of rye malt is are noticeable.
T/M: Extra crisp on the palate. Grassy and straw hop flavors with hints of grapefruit are back coupled with a decent level of rye. Toasted grains are also noticeable. Fresh and goes down extra smooth. Bitterness on the palate lasts. Dry.
D: This brew reminds me of a farm for some reason--grassy and straw notes with the dry finish are the culprits here. Definitely drinkable and worth seeking out if you can. It's around town currently.

This beer pours a bright orangish/golden yellow and a very hazy body with a small white head. Almost reminds me of a slightly dark weis.

Nose is very crisp, super fresh malt with a burst of citrus hops.

Taste is clean, crisp and super fresh. Nice fresh grain malt, spicy rye malt and a perfectly balanced big but never overpowering bitterness. Citrus peel, grapefruit and all the other classic big american hop varietal touches. Very fresh hop and malt and very inviting.

So amazingly fresh it makes me want to drink nothing else. Seriously, I was at Bukowski's once and they had 5 other beers on tap I couldn't have any other time and I ordered this twice. Great freakin' beer.

Two pints of this lovely rye beer were the highlight of my most recent Friday evening (although the Meditteranean pizza that accompanied them was a close second). It's interesting to note the difference in spelling between this entry and the CBC's website (where it's named Easy Ryder). On to the beer ...

Appearance: the color is deep amber, almost red. Head was 1/2-inch in height, slightly off-white, and long-lived. "What a pretty beer," I remarked to PeatReek and HighCarbDiet.

Smell: the pungent hops (think Hop Devil) smell was very nicely tempered with the earthiness of the rye malt. I couldn't wait to take a drink.

Taste: I think my exact words were, "Wow. You guys have gotta try this." The explosive hops aroma was still there in the beginning, transitioning smoothly to the delicious, sweet, hearty rye middle, and then finishing clean, like you might expect from a beer whose only other grain is German pilsener malt. Fantastic.

Mouthfeel: coarse grains, smooth but substantial. Flows in waves over your tongue and palate, delighting you across the entire span. Maybe it's over just a little too quickly, though.

Drinkability: I want to put a higher number here, but I think the hops assault and the ABV (6.0%) are a little too much for my (decidedly immature) sensibilities. Two pints is, and was, perfect.

Get some of this while it lasts.

I think I had three of these in a row, and then realised they were 6%..d'oh! Man, this was one of those, you took one sip, and you were like: wow. I don't even have the color written down (whoops!), but if I recall, amber with a white head. The aroma is what I would call earthy, and I mean that in a good way. It's easy to drink, was darn fresh at CBC. I think the rye tones done the too easy too much hoppiness. There's a homebrew like quality in that the hops, while present, aren't taking the enamel off your teeth. A great beer they should make a regular.
