As with many Hefeweizens this poured a cloudy light gold to yellow. It had a pleasant head that stayed for quite a while, but much lace. The aroma was a nice mix of cloves and citrus (banana), with a little malt on the back. The taste was light and refreshing. It had the cloves and definitely a hint of banana towards the middle. This is a nice Hefeweizen. It had non of the chemical taint that you get on some American attempts at the beer. It had a nice light mouthfeel, and is very drinkable. Especially n a hot summer day.

Got a good laugh out of the bartender when I purchased a growler of this...

Her: "Did you see the disclaimer?"
Me: "Huh?"
Her: "Because of the yeast in there the bottle could explode if it gets too hot. Just don't leave it in your trunk or anything like that"
Me: "Uh Huh... Good to know... "

A- Pours a cloudy lemon rind / straw yellow color. Depending on the pour speed and angle, it could have either very little head, or a nice full one.

S- Has a very classic blend of hefeweizen spices like coriander and clove with some orange peel and melon. Very well blended.

T- Again, well blended and balanced maltiness with a bittering finish. Has a tangy yeast funk and subtle spice notes in the middle. Has a thirst quenching honeydew melon and banana flavor under the spices and tanginess.

M- Medium to light bodied with low co2. Easy drinking.

D- While nothing especially noteworthy jumps out, it is perfect in the sense that it is full of classic hefeweizen flavors and nothing offensive.

Growler purchased at CBC into a pilsner glass. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Pours a hazy, cloudy, straw-gold. It actually looks like a darker tangerine towards the center of the glass, with lighter highlights on the edges. Two-finger white head with solid lacing and great retention.

The aroma is classic: bananas, bubblegum and cloves come through in roughly equal proportion. CBC really nailed the smell here, and there's a great balance of yeast and malty sweetness. A very enticing, great-smelling hefe.

The taste has more of a biscuit flavor than the smell would indicate, but those ester fruits really shine through. In addition to those bananas, there is a light lemon citrus touch. Naturally, there's a strong yeasty component that forms the backbone of the taste. Unfortunately, there's a slight lingering vegetal flavor that becomes more evident as the beer warms - it doesn't kill the whole package, but it is distracting and a little off-putting.

Mouthfeel is nice, thin without being watery. The carbonation borders on being overactive, but this is still very easy to put down.

CBC makes some of the best Belgian-style beers of any American brewery, and this is no exception. Possibly the best American hefe I've ever had, and one that I wish I'd drank more of over these summer months.

On-tap at the brewpub.

Pours a hazy lemon-yellow color with a bright white head that leaves decent lacing.

Smells of crisp light malts with good amounts of wheat twang and breadiness. Underlying everything are solid amounts of ripe banana and clove aromas.

Tastes similar to how it smells, though not quite as robust. Smooth light malts with generous contributions from wheat up front are joined quickly by ripe banana flavors. Midway through mild amounts of breadiness and clove come into play, carrying through to a mildly bitter ending. Mouthfeel is good, with smooth carbonation.

Overall I was very impressed with this beer, a very good example for the style that’s well worth a shot.

It was eithere a hefe-good night or I just increasingly like this style. Yellow-golden CLOUDY pour with a nice medium semi-dense bleached-white head that held & laced. Citrus & other fruit on the nose, can't quite place it but very nice. Some spice on the nose too. Mild but very well balanced hops, spice, citrus, and fruit on the tongue. Very consistent across the tongue with a somewhat dry finish. It must've been drinkable because it was universally reordered.

A- Thick and so cloudy that you can't see thorugh it. Opaque yellow/orange but more yellow. Thin lace of head.

S- Slighty yeast aroma, wheat is barely noticable behind the banana. Very inviting.

T- Delicous, just like it smells. Could of used more wheat flavor. A little light for me, as far as the wheat flavor is concerned. Yup, it's banana and some light citrus notes.

M- A little thin for the appearance. I expected a thicker beer. Especially since it was an opaque yellow color. Could of used a little more body. Would've rated it higher if it had a better mouthfeel.

D- Very good going down. Nice cool summer night. I had 3 with dinner, 1 after. I thought about getting a growler today. I would've last night but we were there past thier serving time. Very drinkabe.

Appearance - Cloudy yellow with a small head. Could be another bad pour ; ).

Aroma - Very nice fruity smells with a little coriander in the background.

Mouthfeel - Light fizzy carbonation.

Taste - Light banana up front. Very fruity that finishes nicely with a little clove in the aftertaste.

Overall - Yes it's a winner. Very nicely done!

The nose on this beer was great. Nice strong yeast aroma came through wonderfully. Lots of banana and some spice thrown in for good mix. Even could pick up the alcohol just a tad. And the best part, did not even have to ask for "No lemon." Color seemed to be a little off and it was a little thin looking. Perhaps a shade towards green instead of a customary yellow. Flavor was more of the same that I got from the nose, but the wheat was intense. Very chewy. Mouthfull was a hair short of full bodied, maybe just a little too watery. Very drinkable and had to fight the urge to order a second (had a long drive ahead of me).

I was surprised to discover that CBC was brewing what might just be one of the best hefes I've had from an American brewer. Pouring a murky gold that is radiant in the sun, topped with a thick foamy head, the beer has a fantastic nose that strongly features a spicy clove character. A taste like a spicy banana bread, this is a great hefe that I will certainly return to again.

On-tap at the brewery, poured into a tall pilsener glass.

Appearance: What I love a Hefe to look like: dirty, but bright, with a good cloudiness and murkiness. Good bright white head settling at the top around the smaller cylindrical part of the glass.

Smell: This thing's fresh and very pungent. Big notes of spicy yeast, mild earthy phenolics, clove and banana, and malt sweetness. Possibly some spiciness because of the hops. Very surprising, as my friend and I have often had conversations about Hefeweizens at smaller places like this not being the best, but this is pretty big and wild.

Taste: Good initial fruit esters with banana and clove, with some peppery spice from the yeast, some nice sweetness from the malt balancing the hops, also bringing some citrus and spice. Long mildly phenolic and fruit estery finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a good creaminess and a nice burst of carbonation at the end.

Drinkability: I was impressed with this brew. It was perfect weather for a Hefe, and this exceeded my expectations. Had we hit this place at the end of our weekend rather than the beginning, a growler would've been in hand.

Sampled on tap at the brewpub, July 2003. 5.75% ABV.

This hefeweizen poured a cloudy, yellow-golden color with white foam that settled relatively quickly and did not leave lace. The smell was mild and faded somewhat by the end of the pint, but included banana, wheat, and malt. The taste was also mild: banana, wheat, malt, citrus, and some tangy hops. The mouthfeel was smooth with a dry finish. The body was medium and the carbonation low. There was a very pleasant fruity/malty/hoppy aftertaste. This was a very nice and refreshing hefeweizen, very suitable for a hot Cambridge afternoon.

Sampled again August 2003, and review updated.

Pours a cloudy pale-orange/yellow, topped with a two finger white head. Leaves thin webs of lacing.
Banana and clove aroma mainly. Notes of grass, citrus, tea leaves.
A little sweet, banana, good grass and wheat notes. Clean and a bit tart.
Light-medium bodied, and refreshingly tart after the walk over on a hot day.

On-tap at Cambridge Brewing Company in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

A- Hazy straw-yellow body. Two finger white head with good retention. Lots of lacing. Typical hefeweizen appearance.

S- Lots of cloves and spices, some banana, no bubble gum. Wheat, pale malt, noble hops. Smells promising.

F- Very good flavour profile with wheat, pale malt breadiness, distinct noble hops and of course the spices from the yeast. Banana, cloves, not much bubble gum. Very good.

M- Medium body, smooth and rich with a nice effervescence. Very easy to drink and very refreshing.

O- Refreshing hefeweizen that hit the spot on a humid, warm day like today. Drinking it outside at the CBC outdoor area made it even better.

Poured with a thick white head that left a nice lace on the glass as I drank. A cloudy sort of hazy straw yellow best describes the color. The aroma was classic banana wheat and this came across in the flavor. As it warmed up it began to take on a citrus like flavor. I enjoyed this beer and hope it stays on tap for awhile so i can have some more.

Served in weizen glass...proper!

Honey cloudy with no head at all-orange zest in color

Aroma has good closing speed - yeast and wheat electricity is bountiful with nice coriander and zest

Rolls pretty bitter-almost Pilsener-like. Wheat in background is nice-more full-flavored than expected

Rolls very clean-austere grassy bite on the finish but very palate cleansing

Bulkier than average hefe but nice
