Served in a flute glass. Consumed 5/7/10 during the 21st Anniversary weekend.
A) Poured with a thin tan head. Body is clear and amber In Color.
S) Aroma is not very robust but the oak barrel is noticeable. Faint sweet malty notes.
D) The oak is prominent, and easily identified from the beginning. Malty sweet upfront. Toffee and some roasted grains. Hints of raisin. The sweet of the malts lasts until the end. In the finish, a lingering malt but more settled than the initial blast.
M) Light to medium body. Light fizz. Fairly smooth.
D) A nice brew. My palate isn't acclimated to Bocks so my thoughts are slightly unsure. 3.5

A very nice surprise at the Otherside on one of my Friday beer lunches. A dark honey-brown pour with red hints & a small tan head that soon fizzled out leaving minute lace. A malty aroma with hint of peppery smoke and nuts. The flavor likewise tasted as such, with a not-sweet maltiness, and little hint of the alcohol. Very nice full medium-bodied mouthfeel and very easy to drink, watch out!

A - Poured a very dark amber. Tan head quickly dissipated.

S - Smells very sweet and malty. Vanilla tones are there too.

T - Rich and complex. Some really nice flavors here. Malty sweetness dominates. Oak undertones definitely help smooth it out. The vanilla flavors are stronger than I expected, and this is a good thing. An extremely tasty brew. Very nice job of hiding the alcohol.

M - Full bodied and very smooth, thanks in part to the moderate carbonation level.

D - A beer that is strong and assertive, yet very drinkable. Complex, flavorful, and smooth, everything here works very well together.

Had on tap at CBC on Monday May 10, 2010.

Brown color, very thin white head. Lacing did not hold up.

Smelled very sweet and strongly of vanilla.

I did not enjoy the taste of this beer. It was just too oakey with that fake vanilla that you get from a bad Chardonnay as opposed to a good one.

Light mouthfeel. Vanilla lingers too long on finish.

I love trying barrel aged beers and this was fun to try. I enjoy CBC beers but this one just didn't do it for me.

On tap today at CBC. Served in a large pilsener style glass. Dark reddish brown color. Thin white head that disappears quickly. Tiny streams of carbonation in the center of the glass. The nose had a bit of wood to it. The taste was excellent. There was a nice combination of malt with a dose of hops to keep things even. Great flavor of oak and vanilla. In the mouth, the beer gives you a nice bit of sugary sweetness up front, but finishes with a peppery aftertaste. Heavier than a lager, but light for a bock, the mouthfeel makes this beer very easy to drink. The abv is not noticeable until I was just about done, when I could sort of feel it then. An excellent new beer, and a relative steal at $5 for a seasonal in a tall glass.
