Appearance: murky brown. Reminds me of the river that runs into the Charles near Fenway park. Not a compliment.

Sweet malty smell with hints of bourbon from the buffalo trace barrels. It smells like a smoke Saturday night at a cigar bar: wood laced with booze.

The taste is on the sweet side with under currents of raisins, rum, bourbon, vanilla, oak, and dried plums. It's absolutely delicious - a sipper for sure but savory as all hell.

The dark fruit of the dubbel and the isn't vanilla of the bourbon truly mesh well. I've never experienced a beer quite like this.

Well done CBC. Well done.

Reviewed from notes.

Pours a moderate brown color with a bit of a garnet hue. Thin off-white head with a bit of spotty lacing and a thin collar. The nose is fairly sweet and carries a good amount of dry fruit. The bourbon makes its way in and is quite nice. Not getting much of the sweet gale, but perhaps that's the fruity character I'm picking up. The flavor blends some sweetness, fruits, and the bourbon quite well with a bit of oak in the background. The combination of bourbon and the base dubbel provides a really nice mouthfeel. Innovative and well done. Props to Cambridge.

Had on tap at the brewpub.

Nice creamy 1 finger head fades slowly bit if lacing, super dark molasses brown color.

Nose bourbon and like a rye whisky, light oaky barrel, some dark malts, brown sugar, molasses, caramel, toasty malts, light sweet bourbon and touch of fruits.

Taste comes with sweet malts, caramelized everything, brown sugar, light molasses, toasted malts, touch of roast, little nougat, touch of booze, fluffy even, then more bourbon and maybe rye whisky again, light oak barrel flavor, hints of fruits and touch of earthy hops. Finishes still a bit sweet, light bitterness, little sticky, lingering tons of malts, light barrel and bourbon, light roast and dark crystal malts.

Mouth is med to heavier bodied, decent carb, slight kick of booze.

Overall great beer, nice flavors, nice malts, touch of roast, nice bourbon barrel, drinkable for 9.2%.

Notes from a trip to Boston a few weeks ago. My friend had been here the week prior and recommended I order this.

Appearance is a reddish brown with a small off-white head. This dubbel smells of plum and other dark fruit, brown sugar, caramel and some bourbon in the whiff too. Upon taking a sip out of the tulip glass, I am immediately pleased. Along with some of the flavors that were in the nose, still present, there is now some vanilla and oak as well. It is blended well with those dark fruits and brown sugar. And with a body that is pretty full and rich, it is a great sipper. This was a very good dubbel, one of the better ones from the East Coast that I can remember.

A - Beer is a rich brown-red color with a finger of frothy tannish head. The head fades slowly leaving behind lots of lacing.

S - Aroma is full of rich dark fruit and caramel. There is also some oak and some Bourbon notes mixed in.

T - Rich dark fruit flavor and toasted caramel flavor. Through the middle some oak and vanilla as well as some Bourbon come through. The finish is full of rich dark fruit, oak, and some vanilla and booze that lingers.

M - Full bodied with moderate-low carbonation. The beer feels fairly thick and syrupy. The finish warms the mouth nicely from the alcohol.

D - Very drinkable. Pretty boozy, but the Bourbon flavors mixed in are really nice. The beer is very complex and very rich in a good way.
