Sierra Nevada Snow Wit Winter White. A pun on "snow white?" Say, what do Californians know about snow or winter, anyway? Me, I'm sick of it, and I could do without a reminder. What can we do, it's everywhere we turn. Don't look out the window, don't leave the house, let's have a summer beer, and pretend.

Hazed, golden appearance, surprisingly slim head. (Maybe my pour was off? Did I wash the glass wrong?)

Aroma: Witbier spices are here, some citrus, and coriander. A little hoppier than normal, but not by much. Lovely, though.

Taste: Bold, bright and fruit-forward. Now, finally, in the flavor, I'm getting the sense of an IPA. Lots of citrus zest taste, just gets brighter and brighter, wheat feel comes forward, too. Tropical fruits too, pineapple, banana. I'm liking this more and more. Medium-bodied, supremely drinkable. It's good beer, and you can drink it. Yum. Tast-y!

Hey, what's the official word: "Snow Wit is brewed with seven varieties of experimental dwarf hops. (Okay, bringing the Snow White reference full circle.), giving it a complex, grapefruit and herbal hop character accentuated by spicy notes of an authentic Belgian yeast."

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint.

A - Hazy banana yellow, with a one-finger, white head of even size bubbles.

S - Strong aroma of grapefruit, Belgian yeasts, and clove.

T - "Grapefruit forward" would be a colossal understatement; it's almost like a mix between beer and grapefruit juice. Some clove and cracked pepper in the mid-palate. No malts anywhere to be tasted. Finishes with an almost chemical tasting astringency. A mind-numbingly simple beer that gets tired after a few sips.

M - Light bodied, almost to the point of being watery. Acidic. Did not mesh particularly well with the taste in my opinion.

O - A real misfire here. If this is what "dwarf hops" taste like then maybe SN should stick with the fully grown variety.

Not very partial towards Belgian IPA's (too many different things going on). However, I'm quite partial towards Sierra Nevada. Let's see how they do here. Here goes:

A: Crystal-clear yellow. Pours a nice head that leaves a lot of lacing. Some carbonation, but not a lot considering the style. OK. Also a lot less yeast than in other beers of the style.

S: Mix of coriander, Belgian spices, candied sugar and...hops. Hops are piney and grapefruity. However, rather than each of the scents complementing one another, they produce a rather weird concoction.

T: OK, but not great. Candied sugar, spices followed by some hops. However, it's quite watery. I'm used to a more bready mouthfeel from Belgian beers - this is too different from what I'm used to.

F: Watery - not very good.

O: An OK beer, but has some serious flaws.

Poured from a bottle with a packaged on date of 5/9/14; into a pub glass.
Appearance - a cloudy yellowish orange, with bubbly carbonation that builds a creamy, thick white head. Lacing is superb!
Smell - a spicy, herbal nose with banana, mandarin oranges and cloves!
Taste - tasty and refreshing, but not much that suggests an IPA, let alone a Belgian IPA.
Feel - very little bitterness, more of a wit or Hefe feel. Very nice, but even the "white" IPA label is misleading.
Overall - easy to kick back with a few of these, however, I get the feeling the characterization of white IPA may have been a ploy to sell this as apart of the 4 Way IPA mixed 12!

Appearance: Pale golden glass shows excellent clarity and holds a solid finger of white foam.

Smell: Odd mix of coriander and hops, comes across as floral, and a bit like a Saison.

Taste: A bitter lemon lime peel tonic at the front really reinforces the Saison profile for me along with the fruit esters. A lot of lemon, which often doesn't do much for me in a beer (a fresh lemon wedge is a different animal; I'm talking brewing with lemons). A grassy hop note as well, not a hop driven beer like an IPA should be.

Feel: A bit fizzy, light body, dry finish.

Overall: Love Wits, Love IPAs, don't love this so much.

Beautiful 2 1/2 finger firm, snow-white head, with excellent retention. Brew is a cloudy, nearly opaque orange-gold-yellow color, with nice center bubble action. Nice lines of lacing.

Banana aroma from the yeast immediately while pouring, which is more muted once it settles into the glass. Light lemon and grapefruit citrus aroma, but not overpowering. Yeast, very light, sweet spice, lemongrass, and wheat. Beautifully balanced aroma.

This is a very interesting mix between a more traditional Wit and an American IPA. First, a dry, earthy, and slightly citrus peel bitterness hits; then, yeast, wheat, bananas, and clove; finally, grapefruit citrus hops and light tobacco bat cleanup. There really is quite a lot going on in here, and the flavors don't really sit still.

Somewhere around medium feel, with noticeable sting, no foaming, and a semi-dry and lasting finish. Not a gulper, but doesn't require careful sipping, either.

This is a very solid Belgian IPA. The yeast is very present, but not dominant; the hops are numerous and complex, but not overwhelming. Everything is incredibly well-balanced.

This would make a good Wit replacement on a nice Summer or Spring day. Not sure I would pick it up to satisfy an IPA fix, though.

Pours cloudy light yellow color with a nice foamy 2 finger snow white head that was full of bubbles and faded slowly, leaving good lacing and rings as it went down, leaving a white layer on top. A lot of yeast remained at the bottle of the bottle after the pour.

Smells of malt, yeast, coriander, lemon zest, light caramel, grapefruit, orange peel or citrus hops, biscuit, grass, pepper, mild funk and spices; it is more like a Belgian than an IPA and reminds me of a Hoegaarden more than a Sierra Nevada IPA.

Taste also reminds me of a Hoegaarden more than a Sierra Nevada IPA, with of lemon zest, yeast, coriander, sweet malt, caramel, grapefruit, orange peel, citrus hops, biscuit, dry grass or hay, pepper, cinnamon, pine cone/piney hops, tart green apple, mild bready funk and light spices; as a Belgian IPA this hits the mark and it on the refreshing side while keeping a complex flavor profile and pretty good balance. The hops are not Sierra Nevada in your face, but play a very nice role in keeping everything active and balanced.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp, with a feel that is not slick but near smooth, with mild carbonation that’s almost watery, a medium body, and a slightly bitter grapefruit-like finish that is funky and almost dry. The aftertaste is like lemon and coriander with some yeast of funk, and then dries up quickly which makes it fun to drink.

Had this a few weeks ago with sushi and it was a perfect pairing. Overall a very good new beer by Sierra Nevada, once which they should keep in the yearly rotation.

Appearance: Very light orange. Cloudy. Big, fluffy white head that leaves a decent lace.
Smell: Lemon, banana, grapefruit.
Taste: Spritzy, some grapefruit, lemon.

Well, this is definitely on the lighter end of the spectrum than what I've had in this category. It's certainly enjoyable, and I think would be excellent on a hot day. It has the Belgian banana smell with the citrus of a pale ale, or weak IPA. Don't get me wrong. I like it. It's enjoyable. It's just not super exciting. I probably wouldn't get this again by itself.

Cloudy goldenrod color with a humble topper. Fell to a greasy looking surface. Looks soppy.

A lot of coriander, Belgian yeast, lemon, herbal notes, and light citrus. Vapor trail of grapefruit. Solid malt base with biscuit thickness. Approachably light.

Zippy American hops with loads of herbal flavors. Marries with the coriander, herbal bitterness, chalky yeast, and hints of sage. Grapefruit, lemon, lime, and jasmine. Sturdy and rustic with dry pale biscuity malt. Pretty good backwoodsy Belgian IPA.

Smooth intro, light-bodied and wet, with a bittering middle and carbonated finish. I love this kind of mouthfeel for a sessionable IPA.

Better than anticipated. Sierra Nevada, showing they know what they're doing.

Pours hazy light golden bronze. Fluffy patchy sticky white foam. Citrus nose, strong. Peppery nose too. Taste is light lemon white wheat, mild bitter. Sour aftertaste. Like grapefruit. Sticky bitter finish. Creative IPA with a wit blend. Enjoyable.
