Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Beer Camp Across America West Coast Double IPA clocks in at 8.5% ABV and features five hop varieties, two of which went into Sierra Nevada’s “Hop Torpedo” dry-hopping device and impart hints of grapefruit and a floral note that recalls orange blossom. A light malt body and dry finish complement the bold hop profile.

L: Pours a deep golden color that is a bit paler than I like my IPAs with a strong pearl head that lingers a good time before turning into lace. The beer is a bit murky, but transparent with minimal carbonation bubbles.

S: Surprisingly subtle for a Sierra Nevada DIPA. I smell some moderate herbal, citrus and earthy notes from the hops with a little bready malt backing it. Nothing special, but pleasant and balanced.

T: The beer is very crisp and forward with it's floral, herbal and earthy hop flavoring. I would say floral is the defining taste up front with the others supporting it. There is a nice pale malt backbone to this beer that keeps everything in balance throughout the body. The beer finishes with strong floral notes and some cedar resin. The aftertaste is a bit too harshly bitter, but overall a well balanced, but unspectacular DIPA flavor.

F: You can feel the strong malt backbone very well and the beer is very full and rich on the palate. The hops add a very zesty feel. Very good work here.

O: I'm a bit disappointed in this more because of the Sierra Nevada name than anything else. It's well balanced, but really unspectacular. I can't recommend this beer when the store almost certainly has cases of Torpedo nearby.

This beer was poured from a 24oz bottle into a Blind Pig mug and enjoyed at apx 60F.

Poured into an IPA glass.

Look: The body is a murky rusty tangerine color. The head is cream colored and pretty thick and foamy with great retention. Light lines of lacing cling to the glass.

Aroma: Very citric and herbal with grapefruit rind and cedar coming through.

Taste: The taste starts out malty with cedar notes bringing a little spiciness to the palate, while the beer finishes with the very bitter taste of grapefruit rind and pine resin.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied

Overall: The 8.5% ABV stays rather hidden. This beer is nicely balanced and tastes as good as expected.

A very average DIPA, I for some reason really thought this would rock. However it had a bit of a soapy after taste and the body was a bit flat. However it was very easy to drink~
