We named this beer in honor of Myron Avery, a founder of the Appalachian Trail, or the A.T., which starts near Sierra Nevada’s North Carolina brewery and ends near Allagash’s home in Maine. Both breweries have a tremendous love of the outdoors, and Avery and the A.T. are great reminders of the wild spirit of exploration that connects us both.
In 1995, Rob Tod started Allagash Brewing Company and since then, Portland, ME, has been a place of reverence in the Belgian brewing pantheon. Allagash adds their Belgian flair to variety of beer styles and are one of the few American breweries to use a traditional coolship for true spontaneous fermentations leading to seriously complex beers native to their coastal home.

My 2nd offering from the Beer Camp Across America collection...
A - Two fingers worth of light airy crisp lig tht khaki colored froth with a slightly rocky waffle like top... Modest at best retention gives way to rich full veil of lacing and moderate collar... The color is a deep vibrant amber... There is a slight haziness suspended throughout... A moderate bit of moderate based carbonation rises throughout...
S - A slightly subdued, but quite pleasant aroma... At the forefront are the Belgian yeast notes and some lively lemon zest... The next layer down provides a light spice component in the the form of sage and clove... Some faint pear and green apple notes as well... Nice depth and good complexity...
T - Lemon zest... Very light Belgian yeast... Sage... Banana... Pear... A slightly off putting metallic character on the finish... Some watered down honey flavor... An odd mix of flavors that don't seem to compliment one another in any meaningful fashion...
M - On the fuller side of light bodied... Starts with a touch of lushness before turning dry for the remainder of each sip... Perhaps a bit on the thin side... Goes down a bit to easily without leaving any evidence that it ever passed through one's mouth...
D - Solid appearance and aroma give way to a bit of a disappointment in terms of flavor and mouthfeel... Overall, a bit less than a sum of its parts... It's hard to believe that two excellent breweries like Allagash and Sierra Nevada could be responsible for such a disappointing brew... There are a plethora of other Belgian Pale Ales that I would give the odd to before recommending this one...

Bottled 6/3/14; drank 7/11/14 @ the Yarchives.
Clear golden hue; champagne bubbles throughout.
HUGE cream head (careful pouring!); a curtain of lace.
Mild banana nose; hints of orange citrus & black pepper.
Medium mouthfeel.
Orange citrus asserts itself more in the taste than in the nose; banana is still dominant, though, while the black pepper disappears.
A nicely balanced, easily sessionable version of a style I don't love. Well done.

I don't know if I ever had a Sierra Nevada attempt at a Belgian Pale Ale before, so this should be interesting. This was a golden pour, slight haze, nice 3/4" white head on the top. Looks professional, both breweries are top notch in that regard. Aroma had some Belgian phenols and mild spice racking, mostly coriander, clove and some lemon.
Taste, keeps the hops out of the way for the most part, a slight pine and grapefruit nod, but still at least half of what they normally drop into a pale ale, a lightly toasted pale malt breadiness throughout. The Belgian yeast seems to be the driver flavor wise here.

Reviewed from (very long-standing) notes. Consumed in late 2014. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Cigar City Brewing pint glass.
A: Mildly hazy bright gold, with a good level of visible carbonation. Forms a finger's worth of white head with good retention.
S: Lemon and coriander. Grainy cracker malts and grassy hops. Pears with a backer of citrus fruit, especially lime.
T: Lemon-lime citrus and resinous hops. Coriander and cracker malts. Belgian yeast and associated fruits esters - apple, pear, and mild clove. It finishes with a mild bitterness balanced by residual esters.
M: Light body, good carbonation sensation, and no alcohol presence to speak of.
O: Not a truly great BPA, but quite tasty, and overall one of the better Beer Camp offerings from this year.

Growler filled at DeCicco's in Cross River, NY
Pours lighter amber, near clear, next to no head, no film and very minor lace. Carbonation apparently on the lower side.
Sniff reveals light Belgian yeast, light citrus and smooth malts
Pleasing and easy drinking BPA, with notes of again light yeast, grainy hops and malty goodness. Nicely crafted
