Bottled on 7/9/14 and poured into a Sierra Nevada pint glass about a month later. "100 Day IPA. Drink fresh. Don't store." Says the label. Twist my arm.

Beautiful Sierra-gold color, nice head with the lacing that beer folk love. Nice aroma, nothing mind-numbing. As a fan of single hop brews and Sierra Nevada, and the fact that this is a great series from them, I expected a hoppy delight. And it was, though the flavor (and aftertaste) really kicked in on my second glass, which I'm imbibing as we speak!

Can't really isolate flavors like many folks here (bell pepper was mentioned a coupla times - I'll have to Google it!) but I'd say rustic and earthy would be my take on this batch of Equinox hops. And I like them very much.

I'm lucky to get a bottle or 2 of these Sierra bombers in the East. $6/24oz locally. Most excellent.

Appearance - Pours a crystal clear, brilliant golden orange with an off-white 2-finger head. Good retention, leaving a fair layer of surface suds and some clingy, soapy strands of lacing around the glass.

Smell - Herbal quality and spice abound. Black Pepper and, like the descriptor on the bottle, bell pepper character makes it's presence known. Touches on dank and faint citrus.

Taste - Follows the nose. Black pepper spice and a bit of bell pepper herbal sweetness. Some woody dankness peaks through mid-taste, then finishes with a fair amount of orange pith bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, almost silky, and stupid drinkable. Semi-dry finish.

Overall - This is a nice, mellow IPA, but don't mistake mellow for lack of flavor. This exhibits a multi-layered complexity that's well constructed, yet goes down with brilliant smoothness. Sierra Nevada doesn't often wow me with their beers, but this one is methodically seductive, and quite original. I digs it. I digs it a lot!

Poured into an IPA glass, this is a slightly hazy gold in color with a two-finger head that condenses to a dense, thin layer of foam that leaves plenty of lacing down the glass.
The aroma is dank with citrus and lemon behind.
The taste is citrus and pine and some dankness with some caramel mid-taste and a lingering piney bite at the end.
Mouthfeel is medium and somewhat sticky.
Another interesting and tasty single-hop IPA.

24 ounce bottle at fridge temp poured into a large mug. Packaged on date was early July, but I don't remember the exact date.

Poured clear yellow golden with a huge beige had and lots of carbonation. Smell is grassy and clean.

Taste is very bitter, in a way I'm not sure how to describe. Some lemon zest. Very crisp. Very long bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is quite dry. Overall, pretty good.

The latest single hop varietal from Sierra Nevada is Equinox Hops. It pours a medium, clear amber with a thick, rocky, ivory head that slowly settles to a light film and an eighth inch ring with lots of foam sticking to the glass.

The aroma is lightly resinous, piney and hoppy. The taste follows, bitter and resinous with almost no malt character. It's out of balance, but one doesn't expect balance from an IPA. It's medium bodied with a creamy feel and a light hop buzz, not a tongue ripper.

Overall, it's very good, but not great. I much preferred last years Experimental Hop #291 with its big grapefruit aroma and taste.

Very reasonably priced in a 24 oz. bomber compared to a lot of IPA's I've seen.
