January 30th, 2015 - Here's a beer that might be a little too reserved for drinking by its lonesome, but that I could see pairing very well with a tobacco pipe. Light golden in color, with a similarly lightly hoppy nose (which I find a little generic), the taste is distinctive in that it is lemony and acerbic. Its also hoppy and bitter, but the acidic citrus quality lends it a light sweetness too, like a Southern iced tea.

Comes in an elegant hazy straw with a big creamy pure white head, with moderate retention but lots of chunky lacing.
The nose is a bit muted, but offers candied grapefruit, lemon sorbet, pine needles, crackers, honeydew melon.
The palate offers lemon sorbet, yellow grapefruit peel, orange zest, honeydew melon, green grape, gooseberry, and soft pine needles.
The mouthfeel is soft, moderately carbonated, well rounded, smooth and creamy. Finishes lightly dry.

Pours a light gold with medium carbonation. Aroma is of dank/fruity hops, taste is much of the same with a cracker like taste. Not much malt there but the beer remains balanced. Overall this is enjoyable but certainly not the most ambitious beer out there.

Its always a little weird for me that Sierra Nevada has ipas (almost the majority?) that are less malty than their pale ale.

Get with the times old man. Anyways, this one pours lighter than their pale ale. Closer to yellow than it is amber. Solid 1/2" white head on the top. Aroma is lightly floral C hops. Toasted pale malts staying away from the caramel like crystal malts on this one for the most part. Wheat usage gives a lighter body than their standard flagship pale ale. A little bit of the familiar grapefruit C hop impact.

12 oz. Bottle

Pours a pretty nice yellow/amber color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy/foamy white head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, citrus. The taste is hoppy, malty, citrusy. Medium body. Overall, a pretty tasty brew.

Picked up a single from Craft Beer Hop Stop on 1-19-17. Packaged on 12-30-16.

Beer poured golden with a beautiful white head that has some great hang time.

Nose is fresh citrus.

Taste is citrus forward with a rind vegetal finish that is present but not overwhelming.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and refreshing.

Overall this is a nice beer that is worth a shot.

Bottled 1/6/2017, sampled 3/27/2017, so about 2 and a half months old at this point. An excellent, sessionable IPA from Sierra Nevada. Just the right amount of pine, pineapple, floral, vegetal hops to create a harmonious and hopful drinking experience. The feel is very lively throughout, with a crisp finish. Worth a repeat for sure, especially considering the classic SN price point of $9 for a sixer.

Pours a clear, golden color with a tight, white head that leaves little chunks of lacing.

Smells of citrus and floral hops.

Tastes of the floral hops layered over a solid malt backbone. Hops lead off with notes of lemon zest, floral, and grass notes. This gives way to doughy, pale malt with a bit of sweetness. Earth and pine notes add towards the middle. Some wheat sharpness comes towards end before a fairly dry finish.

Mouthfeel is medium with a slightly crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a solid IPA, but nothing special. Could almost be called a pale, especially when compared to the standard SN pale.

A: slight haze; medium gold in color; 1+ finger finely pored white head that receded to a very thin cap; very nice lacing;

S: grainy; some citrus - mostly lemon;

T: follows the nose initially; some orange gets added in at the middle; finish is mildly bitter;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish that continues to dry out through the aftertaste;

O: very sessionable;

Simi transparent yellow pour with a dense head.
Smell isn't very strong. Taste is refreshing wheatgrass on the sides of your tounge. Sensational carbonation, though it momentarily drowns out the flavor.

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a golden yellow, unsurprisingly, with a small white head, and a good amount of lacing.

Smells pretty unmistakeably of wheat, with some pilsner malts, grapefruit, and light citrus.

This isn't quite the quality that I'm used to experiencing from this brewery. The beer is quite dry, almost excessively so- as the wheat malt flavor is kind of overwhelming. I'm not sure if this is made with pilsner malt- I don't believe it is. Despite this fact, it feels kind of pilsnery almost, with crackery malt and crisp grassy hop flavors. There's a hint of citrus, but I would have preferred more.

This does have a really solid snappy crispness to it, with a good amount of carbonation.

This is not the best this brewery has to offer. It's tasty, but doesn't offer a whole lot that's interesting.

12/19/14 bottling date.

Poured cloudy, amber with fb of white foam with good retention – slight effervescence. Smells strongly of lemon/orange zest, piney notes. Tastes strong pine notes and herbs up front with a bitter twang that moves into citrus and sweet caramel notes balanced by a bitter lemon rind and resin note from mid to finish. Light to medium bodied with fair amount of carbonation with a bit of astringency and clean finish.
Overall – a fairly good, hoppy beer with relatively weak malty backbone. Came as part of a Sierra Nevada mixed case – pleasant, but I wouldn’t purchase on its own.

Moderately cloudy amber-gold with head the color and nearly the consistency of heavy cream, very dense and foamy and chunky. Excellent retention and lacing. Smell is discreetly piney and vegetal, but more so resiny and rindy, with both orange fruit and black pepper seeping through, not to mention grain it's had a chance to sit for a while. Much more pine on the palate, floral to nearly soapy but I do not complain, for intended citrus qualities (I detect lemons and grapefruit, peel and all) and admittedly weak crackery backbone provide some balance. Plenty of rind, tea-leaf, and peppercorn in the finish. Light to medium body here, subtler carbonation, slick and smooth, not too puckering.

SRM around 3, to the darker side. Slight haze. Proper, white, foamy, slightly fluffy collar with good retention. Low carbonation.

No detectable alcohol. Strong fruity, citrus smell with some lesser hints of pine and resin. Doesn't smell super-complex, but does smell strong.

No alcohol in taste. Strong floral, green, and fruity taste. Aggressive bitter punch up front, but isn't persistent. All hops here, no significant malt contributions save for smoothing things out slightly.

Fairly low astringency, soft-bodied if not a little drying. Low carbonation with medium-length finish.

Pretty basic IPA, though has a distinctive 'hop-kick' to it — kind of in-line with most Sierra Nevada offerings. Isn't the easiest drinking IPA, but quite decent non-the-less.

12oz bottle to my FW imperial nonic glass
Notes taken from 01/23/2015

A: Lightly burnished goldenrod hue with some really fine clarity throughout the body. Nice bubble action develops into a densely thick off white head that holds true for some time. Characteristic to what I have come to expect from SN brews. Looks golden and delicious.

S: A bouquet of Cascades delivers on that classic hop combination of sappy pines and freshly grated citrus. Perhaps a whisper of dankish herbs there. Clean and vibrant with a mild pale malt sweetness coming through in the finish. Very nice with nothing too complex going on here.

T: A showcase of those classic Cascade hops. Pine bursts with freshly zested orange and some lightly herbal dank elements sprinkled in. Backed up to some pale malt breadiness with a slight touch of caramel sweetness too. There is a moderate amount of hop bitterness coming through and the alcohol is kept well masked throughout. Nicely done with great balance and fresh packed flavor.

M: The feel is moderate light with a nice spritzy action from the carbonation. Slightly resinous from a decent amount of hop bitters. Finishes dry and crisp on the palate.

D: A great little throwback. Somewhat simple yes but I gotta say this has me loving the Cascades once again. Like taking that first swig of SN Pale Ale…only cleaner and brighter with some crisp malt action.

Appearance - Pours a quick finger of bone white foam, body is a lovely hazy golden light orange, leaves light webbed lacing after each quaff.

Smell - Light and sweet citrus and tropical hops, also some light floral, and a rich malty breadiness that lies beneath all of the hops - really smells nice.

Taste - This begins with a pretty heavy hit of floral hops with a few traces of citrus meats and pith, then almost immediately with light dried cracked wheat. Past the center the hops become grassy and earthy, along with some dried bread crusts and bitter citrus pith. No alcohol whatsoever.

Mouthfeel - Is about medium, carb is on the heavier side and gives the palate a good scrub, leaving a good amount of bittering behind. After the finish I'm left with somewhat of a wet chalkiness. I've had this with other floral ipa's in the past, but this time it's not as pleasant as some of the others.

Overall - It's a decent beer, and I got this in their 4-way IPA Variety Pack. I'm glad I tried it, but probly would not purchase this one if it were available on it's own.

Pours a hazy gold with a thin cap of white head that lingers to leave some nice small sticky lacing. The aroma is light, with faint hints of citrus and pine that quickly get muddled. The taste is about the same with a light malt hit on the finish. The body is light but not watery and has a small hops bite.

A - The color lives up to the name. Pours a beautiful semi-hazy golden color with 2 1/2 finger head. Good head retention with lacing.

S - Decent and semi-complex aroma. Hints of grapefruit, lemon, herbs and hops. Finishes with a stronger less than pleasant aroma I can't pick up on too much.

T - Initial herbal and wheat-like flavor with hints of bitter hops. Finishes with a mixture of grapefruit, similar to the smell, with addition of a faint, sweet malt flavoring.

M - Medium bodied beer and fairly carbonated. Bitter feeling with a sharp and semi-dry finish.

O - A decently good beer brought to you by SN. Of the IPA mixed pack, this is personally my least favorite. Enjoyable but could be better.

From the much appreciated IPA mixed pack.

Poured into a an imperial pint glass, the beer is a chill hazed dark gold with a massive and sticky off-white head.

It has an aroma of citrus, floral and something slightly herbal.

The beer is bitter but well balanced by some caramel notes from the malts. Citrus bitterness that becomes more floral about 1/3 through.

The mouth is decent and a touch oily and coating.

All-in-all a solid beer from a brewery that masters hops.

12 oz bottle poured in a tulip.

a: Beautiful hazy, honey orange body. Fluffy, light, two finger egg shell head. Minimal bubbles. The head slowly dissipates into an half an inch of foaminess. Moderate lacing.

s: Floral with hints of apricot, grain and grass, followed by citrus zest and sweetened grapefruit.

t: Mild wheat and malt flavor. Juicy pink grapefruit and passion fruit, followed by a grassy,mildly peppery but zesty hop bitterness.

mf: Low carbonation, light body. Nice juiciness with a crisp finish and no after taste. Ready for the next sip.

o: Very nice everyday beer. Certainly not SNs best but not sure why it is rated so low. Maybe I don't know enough about the specifics of the "Classic West Coast IPA". None the less I found it had some interesting subtleties.
