12/19/14 bottling date.

Poured cloudy, amber with fb of white foam with good retention – slight effervescence. Smells strongly of lemon/orange zest, piney notes. Tastes strong pine notes and herbs up front with a bitter twang that moves into citrus and sweet caramel notes balanced by a bitter lemon rind and resin note from mid to finish. Light to medium bodied with fair amount of carbonation with a bit of astringency and clean finish.
Overall – a fairly good, hoppy beer with relatively weak malty backbone. Came as part of a Sierra Nevada mixed case – pleasant, but I wouldn’t purchase on its own.

Appearance - Pours clear and golden in color with an off-white, near two finger head. Good retention results in a thin but consistent layer of suds across the surface. Small spots of lace coats the glass and sticks with nice cling.

Smell - Moderate hop aroma consisting of citrus and pine with lesser grassy notes. Light hints of bread.

Taste - Follows the nose. Citrus and pine hop bitterness along with hints of grass. Bready sweetness hits mid-taste to provide a bit of balance. Finish leaves a faint but lingering bittersweet orange flavor.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium in body with fair carbonation. Smooth, quaffable quality.

Overall - They were going for yesteryear's West Coast IPA, and boy did they achieve it! A clean, classic example of what IPA's used to be. Completely drinkable, but quickly forgettable. Flavor-wise, there simply isn't enough here to compete with today's more complex and flavorful IPA's.

A: Pours a golden yellow color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a nice cap that leaves some pretty good lacing

S: Citrus and pine up front along with a solid malt backbone. Nice and balanced while remaining hop-forward

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with light citrus and pine along with the bready maltiness that balances nicely. Some grassiness comes in next, followed by a light bitterness. Finishes with lingering bitterness and pine

M: Light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: A nice and easy drinking IPA with great balance. Almost leaning more towards an APA, but it is what it is (or called). A nice part of the 4-way IPA pack, but most likely nothing that will make its own release

Packaged 3/6/15

SRM around 3, to the darker side. Slight haze. Proper, white, foamy, slightly fluffy collar with good retention. Low carbonation.

No detectable alcohol. Strong fruity, citrus smell with some lesser hints of pine and resin. Doesn't smell super-complex, but does smell strong.

No alcohol in taste. Strong floral, green, and fruity taste. Aggressive bitter punch up front, but isn't persistent. All hops here, no significant malt contributions save for smoothing things out slightly.

Fairly low astringency, soft-bodied if not a little drying. Low carbonation with medium-length finish.

Pretty basic IPA, though has a distinctive 'hop-kick' to it — kind of in-line with most Sierra Nevada offerings. Isn't the easiest drinking IPA, but quite decent non-the-less.

I can't really say there is anything exceptional about this Golden IPA, however it is extremely well balanced and very drinkable. Beautiful golden color and pours with a thick almond head that lingers. Lemongrass, grapefruit across the tounge with a slight finish of that Cascade Hops bitterness and pine. If you're going to sit down to drink a few on a warm afternoon...this is your beer.

Son in Law purchased and left a couple at the house.
Pours a less than clear light gold with a foamy white head with better than average retention with some excellent side glass lacing.
Aroma: Pungent tart citrus, led by grapefruit and some pine.
Taste, a little bready malts, then the tart grapefruit and sharp citrus hoppiness.
Not usually fond of the grapefruit but this was acceptable.
Tart dry finish. I liked it.

Pours a peach orange color with a white head. A slight haze is to be found along with carbonation rising at a relatively slow pace up to the surface.

Malty grains upfront with an almost cream ale note followed by orange marmalade, pine, and herbal tea.

Bitterness kicks off the flavor with pine and faint citrus. This is aggressively bitter, even for Sierra Nevada, and that is saying something. Pine and resin dominate the grapefruit and tropical hops usually associated with the West Coast IPA moniker. Quite delicious and satisfying to those fond of hops.

Medium to full bodied, well carbonated, slight hop bite. Bitterness sticks to the tongue as this beer makes itself an impression for sure.

Overall, this is an enjoyable IPA and one of the better Sierra Nevada beers to be brewed as seasonals or one-offs lately. The IPA drinker should appreciate this, for others who don't care for bitter brews, this could be a struggle. Very good for the American IPA style.

Clear yellow gold pour with a white one-finger head. Light citrus and grain aroma. Taste has grain and biscuit upfront backed by light citrus hops. Can also taste bready malt and floral hops. Almost tastes like a Pilsner. Light bodied. Finishes with a slight floral bitterness.

This is a showcase for Cascade hops, but too much been there done that. Otherwise, it has the typical strong appearance and mouthfeel that I expect from a Sierra Nevada IPA. More bitter than most Cascade centric IPAs.

Pours a clear, golden color with a tight, white head that leaves little chunks of lacing.

Smells of citrus and floral hops.

Tastes of the floral hops layered over a solid malt backbone. Hops lead off with notes of lemon zest, floral, and grass notes. This gives way to doughy, pale malt with a bit of sweetness. Earth and pine notes add towards the middle. Some wheat sharpness comes towards end before a fairly dry finish.

Mouthfeel is medium with a slightly crisp amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a solid IPA, but nothing special. Could almost be called a pale, especially when compared to the standard SN pale.

12oz bottle, PKGD 12/04/14
A - well, as expected, it's golden in color with a persistent, fluffy ivory head that leaves thick lacing down the glass as it slowly fades
S - fresh, juicy citric aroma with some biscuity grain and light caramel
T - nice balance with some Munich malt characteristics for a backbone - slightly nutty grain, light caramel, and biscuit; pine and grapefruit hop bitterness
M - medium body, pleasant carbonation, finishes moderately bitter with some of the nutty grain lingering with the pine
O - the first time I had it I thought it was ok, but I really enjoyed it the second time around! I have one more bottle left from the new 4way IPA mixed 12 pack and I think I'm going to be disappointed when this one is gone.
