Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright and clear golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. About two fingers of white head which settle into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a lot of lacing.

Smell: A dank, juicy, and floral hop forward aroma with hints of citrus, pine, and biscuit. Upfront mix of floral, earthy, and herbal hops with hints of pine resin and grass. Citrus hop hints of orange peel, lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, and melon. Solid malt presence with hints of biscuit, cracker, grains, straw, and lager yeast. A very solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a dank, juicy, and earthy hop forward taste with notes of citrus, pine, and biscuit. Big mix of hops upfront with floral and earthy notes of pine resin, grass, and spice. Citrus hops with ripe notes of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon, pineapple, tangerine, and melon. Solid Pils malt background with notes of biscuit, grains, straw, cracker, and lager yeast. A really good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Crisp, juicy, and fairly oily with a drying finish.

Overall: A really good take on the India Pale Lager style. Big ripe and juicy mix of hops upfront with a very nice Pils malt backing.

Who said that IPA was the only beer for "hop-heads"? Yet for those who say that they don't like hops because they have never enjoyed the IPA profile, Sierra Nevada is shattering those notions with a Euro-inspired lager that takes on India pale proportions.

Its rich golden hues and cottony white lather both suggest a more bohemian lager. But once the nose breaches the glass, everything from spice, citrus, tea and herb resonate with the senses while its supporting malt contingency is wafer-thin and slight of honey.

While the malt sweetness and crisp bready body are content to lurk deep in the recesses, the hops quietly take command. First introducing tea leaf and soft eatery fruits then weaving into sharp grapefruit and bitter orange before closing with a grassy bite and the peppery "snap" of dry German lagers.

But not stopping there, the hops billow into lemon, grass and peppercorn as the malt fade gracefully from contention and its grassy bitterness closes the taste. The medium bodied lager trails with soft tea and lemongrass; begging for Thai cuisine.

Not a bad hoppy lager. I would honestly drink this beer on the reg if it was a regular offering. This is is a solid lager, has a lot or flavor, not as much as some other ones but it it is a very solid beer. This is what SN does the best, they don't make the best beer in the world but what the do do is make a beer that is superior to most.

Appearance: Light lager appearance, maybe a little darker than most, decent amount of head.

Aromas: Floral hops nothing special or outstanding bur for what it is, it is very solid.

Taste: This is where this beer shines, nice hop notes but not overly so. It is very drinkable and is a very good gateway beer. I can appreciate this beer for what it it is. Its not as good as Jacks Abby Hoppy lager but it is also much cheaper. This is the perfect gateway beer and should be appreciated for what it is.

Overall: Great beer for what it it is, better than most but not as good as the outstanding ones, which gives it points in my opinion. For the money you cannot find a better beer at a better price!

Wow! Sierra Nevada kills it again. Firstly, this beer looks gorgeous. Deep copper, lots of bubbles, a hefty head that lingers for just the right time. Heavy dry hopped, cannabis-like smell. Taste is the best, I don't have a refined palate, but I'm almost positive I'm getting Cascade hops. An upfront hop taste, with a pleasent metallic taste that lingers. Lagering is what makes this beer. I'd describe this as a 1 1/2 IPA, the layering takes what I'd call a double IPA and makes an amazingly drinkable and refreshing beer full of flavor. At 7% ABV this had boy can be sneaky! Buy this ASAP, and PLEASE SIERRA NEVADA, DONT KEEP THIS AS A ONE TIME RELEASE, PLEASE!

Sierra did it again with their seasonal limited beer camp. Fruity and not too overpowering that makes this beer a good choice for the fridge for when friends show up. Cheers go get some and be prepared to hear your friends say what is this beer it's really good

Neither hoppy nor lager-y. Just a medicine muddled mess.

This is easy to drink and full of flavor. You get the best of both worlds. You get great tropical fruit notes, along with the bready/corn malt feel from a pilsner.

A: Pale, straw color with tons of carbonation and a solid head that has great retention.

S: Aroma is grass, slight citrus, and stale bread.

T: Much better than the aroma (thankfully). Tons of grass, citrus and lemon zest. Very crisp and clean. No denying its a solid lager.

F: As noted above, very crisp and easy to drink.

O: Overall, this is a decent hoppy lager. Has the very distinct Sierra Nevada yeast and flavor, with tons of hoppy overtones. Definitely will revisit this beer for an easy drinking, hoppy, flavorful option. Only thing giving this a lower score is the smell (pretty awful) and the fact that I've had a ton of Jack's Abby beers that blow this out of the water. JA sets the bar for hoppy lagers for me.

Nice change of pace from all of the heavy winter brews out right now. This version is definitely more balanced and better than the initial summer premiere.

Got a 12 oz bottle for International Beer Day. I like SN Pale Ale, so this seemed to be right up my alley.

Poured into a Spiegelau glass, because it seemed close to an IPA.

A- Hazy yellow-orange with a good finger or two of head and lacing that stuck throughout.
S- I got very strong notes of citrus, apple, grape...very fruity.
T- Also starts out very fruity, some bitterness but ends smooth and malty...a.k.a catches up to you quick.
M- Definitely drinks like a lager but has the strength/bite of an IPA.
O- My first "Imperial Pilsner" and probably not my last. The 7% ABV catches up to you, but a very drinkable brew from SN.

Beer Camp: Hoppy Lager (2015) brewed by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. This lager has an ABV of 7.0%. The brew pours out a nice amber color with a nice white head. Hoppy Lager smells like hops, grains and some malts. Nothing bad so far. The taste is bitter sweet, with a smooth aftertaste. You also pick up on some nice grains and malts at the end of this brew. The mouthfeel is bold with flavor, with a clean smooth aftertaste. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. did a nice job with this brew. There is nothing overpowering in this brew, it has a nice balance to it. Overall I'm giving ,Beer Camp: Hoppy Lager (2015), a solid 4 out 5. I would buy this brew this again.

Wow what a crisp lager this one is. Clear straw color, one finger foam with nice lacing holding on thruout the session. Very citrusy with hop taste and lager crispness coming thru at different times. Little high in the ABV dept but very well hidden. Will buy again.

From the freshness dated 12 oz bottle into a tall pilsner glass produces a very nice looking bright golden body topped by a one inch frothy head that sticks around, small bubbles rise up the sides keeping things lively. Looks exactly like what a lager should be.
Aroma is subdued but interesting with piny floral and citrus notes around a bread like biscuit.
Taste is superb, nice hop spice up front carried by a prickly effervescence then some softer pine and grapefruit rind followed by an ever so slightly sweet cracker base, lovely.
Overall a very interesting and satisfying Hoppy Lager
(One aside, THANK YOU whoever it was at Sierra Nevada that managed to beat the "Everything hoppy is an India X" It must have taken a pretty strong minded individual to subdue the marketing wonks at the brewery and call it just what it is, a Hoppy Lager. Now if we could just get everyone else on board maybe "India pale lager" will just die it's deserved death followed by "Black IPA" too.

Pours a clear golden body with a white head.

Aroma is mostly citrus and floral hop. Lightest malt gets in.

Orange and grapefruity like hop character. Bready malts. Medium bitterness and body.

Definitely a hoppy lager. Has great drinkability.

Appearance: Gold, huge head.

Smell: Grassy, lemon hint.

Taste: Grassy at first, then sweetness with lemon & grass. Relatively light feel for 7%.

Overall: I like hoppy lagers (and ales) so a $6.99 6 pack was worth a shot. Better yet, it reminds me of Prima Pils in its grassy hoppiness. I didn't realize it was 7% until I started entering this review, doesn't feel that heavy. Good stuff.

Dish soapy, usually a huge fan of SN, love nooner, prob my fav new pils of the year, but this ones just not there. The hop profile
Just doesnt mesh well to me with the lager, the finish has no bite. This is a good beer for style, just not overall

This is a very different, but very good beer. You can really taste the characteristics of a traditional lager and hops layering over each other. This is very smooth and easy to drink, and very tasty. I thought the hops would overtake, but they did not. Awesome.
