Otra VezOtra Vez
Notes: In California, where temperatures often top triple digits, perfecting the warm weather beer is a priority. We happened upon a sweet-tangy blend of native-grown prickly pear cactus and grapefruit combined with the zing of a traditional gose for a vicious but delicious twist on the stodgy summer sippers.

Otra Vez is a tangy twist on the nearly extinct gose style. It combines the zip of prickly pear cactus with a hint of grapefruit for a bright and refreshing finish.

Been looking for this beer in stores to sadly find out if had been discontinued. This beer is a great, easy drinker with a pleasing tartness that is dangerously thirst-quenching. Very crisp mouthfeel, citrus and sun tea like flavor and drinkability with a light belly that doesn't make you feel bloated. It is a both a worknight and sunny afternoon beer that makes you wash down another without buyers remorse. Wish they'd make it a permanent part of the Sierra Nevada lineup.

Sierra Nevada Otra Vez, 4.5%
12oz bottle poured into glass
A Goes style, with cactus and grapefruit

L: Light straw, lots of bubbles all throughout, thick head with retention.
S: Sugar, lemon curd, grapefruit rind. Not that strong on the nose though. After warming, bread and a bit more sourness apparent.
T: Definitely get cactus and grapefruit upfront. Very sour and sweet. Malt is nice, light breadiness but not very heavy. Not bitter. Just sour.
F: Light-medium, carbonated, tart, low ABV
O: Overall, I liked this. The lemony gose compliments the prickly pear. Even if it's California, they are getting that Southwest / Mexican feel to it right.

Writing a review in memoriam of the cactus/grapefruit recipe. Oh delicious, bright, smooth, sexy and thirst quenching prickly pear gose how I miss you so. It really feels like my dog died (I would say child but that sounds a bit extreme, but really, that is how much I loved this beer). Please come back. Your fetid lime/agave replacement is absolute swill :(

Bottled 12/18/15; drank 1/24/16 @ the Yarchives.

Semi-opaque pale yellow appearance.

A rough pour yielded a huge bright white head; minimal lace.

Lemon & sugar notes in the nose.

Thin mouthfeel.

Mildly tart lemon flavor up front; sweet honeyed wheat notes on the finish.

Simple but tasty; well balanced. This would shine on a summer day.

If you love beers like Tecate, Corona, and Dos Equis, but you're also a sour beer drinker, this one is a great fusion of both! With sharp sour lime flavors on the front with a tasty Mexican-style beer finish, this is truly the best of both worlds.

Malt and funk with a palate blasting tangy-tartness. This was a tough one for me to consume but it grew on me a little bit as I gave it a full chance.

(this rating is for the prickly pear recipe only) The prickly pear recipe hit the thirst quenching nail on the head, one of the best brews ever for it's purpose, perfectly subdued with a pleasant tartness and a crisp dry finish that left you ready for another drink .....the agave lime on the other hand....F***king yuck! Not fit to hold a gelding's balless sack. Looking forward to trying the next incarnation though! Cheers

Look: Clear yellow/amber color with a nice, rocky, white head and good lacing.
Smell: Lime, sour green apple, agave, mint, aloe vera. Smells a lot like a lemon-lime soda (Sprite). A bit of funkiness.
Taste: Salty lime up front. Tart, sour apple. Clean, slightly minty flavor. Some malt bread flavor, especially in the aftertaste.
Feel: Thin- to medium-bodied. Clean and slightly dry. Biting carbonation.
Overall: Very clean, lemon-lime, mint, carbonated. Extremely drinkable and refreshing.

Medium carbonation with below average body
Aroma is citrus/lemon/lime,malt
Taste is citrus, mildly tart and sour with just a right amount of sea salt
Very refreshing and light while being unique and well made. Not a home run but would make an excellent summer beer

Sierra nevada switched up the formula for this beer. It has a new bottle as well. With that being said, the old otra vez was delicious, the new one tastes like bud light lime and is virtually undrinkable. Fair warning to those buying this new formula, it's awful.

Cactus is something that may not belong in beer. Sierra Nevada gave it a shot with this one, but I think it's mostly a miss, but it is unique.

It pours yellow with some decent head. The aroma is weird. Gose, for sure, but with goofy ingredients. Ditto for the taste. Not quite right either. It's almost as refreshing as a traditional version.

Not recommended unless you really want something odd.

Pale yellow and par for course

Lime and some crackery notes - but also getting a strong impression of Ginger Ale

Yep, tastes like Godamn Ginger Ale. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Poor. Sierra Nevada needs to give this one up and have a fresh new go. The Lime Gose thing is a slippery slope.

Pale yellow pour kicks up a good foamy head and leaves a nice sheeting of lace.

Nose is salty and cucumbers.

Cucumber and salt assault the tongue, followed by massive citrus grapefruit pith, and very light sweetness which is actually cleansing. This finishes surprisingly clean after the assault on the palate.

I'm enjoying SN aggressive iteration of the gose style.

Straw yellow in color with a hazy appearance. Poured with a moderate, fizzy, bright white foam with low retention. Fresh lime zest and over ripe lemon aromas. Medium light bodied with medium high carbonation. Tart lime with lemon notes up front followed by dry saltiness through the middle. Light tart and salty flavors slowly taper through the crisp dry finish. Crisp, tasty and refreshing. The first gose and one of the first tart beers that I really enjoyed. Sierra Nevada with another style defining offering.

From 2d2dspuma. In Teku glass. Playing Life is Strange Before the Storm. Lemony tart, yet not so much that displeases. Light lemony notes. Maybe some vegetal notes that could be the cacti but that doesnt give it enough interest

Had this for the first time Saturday night (this is also my first Gose). Given to me by a customer and I drank directly out of the can. Not a style that I will likely fall in love as I normally drink IPAs but it is the first wheat based ale that i actually liked and would drink again.. I cannot understand some of the poor ratings given by people who obviously do not like the style.

This is an odd beer for the Raul man. Hella almost crystal clear pour - about as inspiring as Tara Reid taking the SAT’s. Aroma is non-existant like punksatony Phill grabbing a hedgehock out of his hole. Taste?? Like uhhhh. It weirdly has the flavor and feel that sets you up for something lick puckering and tart, and then it disappears like the Lindbergh baby.

I’ll pass on this one next time.

A- Can to a goblet with a clear golden body and a fizzy cap. The white head peaks at a finger before slowly receding to a ring at the edges and a small floating foam layer. Small sheets of lacing.

S- Clean lactic lemony tartness and raw slightly sweet base barley. A hint of breadiness but overall clean and tarts.

T- Becomes bready and the tartness is a bit more balanced out between that, some base barley notes and a light sweetness. Lemons, bread and raw grains.

MF- Fluffy light body that avoids being thin with a nice creamy texture. Moderate level of carbonation. Ends tart.

A great easy going tart brew that is good for any occasion and perfect for those that want a good sour beer for an affordable price.

I ran out of IPA recently, so I ran to the store after dinner with my family. I was wandering around this store, not one of my usual places, when one of the employees came past and asked if he could help me. I said I was fine, just looking for a different IPA from my usual - he said, "Let me recommend a few things, because we're actually closed and you need to leave."

Whoops. I panicked a bit and just grabbed the first six pack I saw. It happened to be Sierra Nevada Otra Vez, and it was on sale for less than a dollar a bottle. Groovy. I don't generally drink gose regularly though, so I was a little disappointed I hadn't grabbed an IPA. Whatever.

Otra Vez pours a pleasant yellow-gold color. It's quite fragrant, predominantly a salty agave aroma. Very nice - I like it already. The taste is accurate to the smell - all salty agave, with the promised hint of grapefruit. Super refreshing. It does have a mildly unpleasant aftertaste, but it's generally quite good.

I don't chase goses and likely never will. But Otra Vez is decent and will never be unwelcome in my fridge.

I was surprised with the taste of this gose-style ale compared to the other gose ale's I've tried. The smell is not that pleasing but the taste is very delicate with the zing of a gose ale.

Bottle. Cloudy yellow. No head.
Sour silage smell. Wheat is apparent. Some spice detected.
Tart citrus flavour. Unripe pineapple and grapefruit.
Medium body and very refreshing. Like an old fashioned flat unsweetened shandy.

It pours a slightly foggy yellow with a couple fingers of creamy white head. Medium to light body. This "gose"-ish beer sounds so great on paper. Unfortunately, the promised complexity just doesn't make it to my palate. It simply tastes like an ever-so-slightly tart lager. That is all.
