Notes:
In California, where temperatures often top triple digits, perfecting the warm weather beer is a priority. We happened upon a sweet-tangy blend of native-grown prickly pear cactus and grapefruit combined with the zing of a traditional gose for a vicious but delicious twist on the stodgy summer sippers.
Otra Vez is a tangy twist on the nearly extinct gose style. It combines the zip of prickly pear cactus with a hint of grapefruit for a bright and refreshing finish.

Excellent use of prickly pear cactus (in Spanish: nopal) and nopales are inherently spicy.
This beer is packed with flavor and is sour. Refreshing to the taste and I think pairs great with seafood. Do not try if you’re expecting a pils or anything wheaty.
Sad to see it’s out of stores…

Been looking for this beer in stores to sadly find out if had been discontinued. This beer is a great, easy drinker with a pleasing tartness that is dangerously thirst-quenching. Very crisp mouthfeel, citrus and sun tea like flavor and drinkability with a light belly that doesn't make you feel bloated. It is a both a worknight and sunny afternoon beer that makes you wash down another without buyers remorse. Wish they'd make it a permanent part of the Sierra Nevada lineup.

Sierra Nevada Otra Vez, 4.5%
12oz bottle poured into glass
A Goes style, with cactus and grapefruit
L: Light straw, lots of bubbles all throughout, thick head with retention.
S: Sugar, lemon curd, grapefruit rind. Not that strong on the nose though. After warming, bread and a bit more sourness apparent.
T: Definitely get cactus and grapefruit upfront. Very sour and sweet. Malt is nice, light breadiness but not very heavy. Not bitter. Just sour.
F: Light-medium, carbonated, tart, low ABV
O: Overall, I liked this. The lemony gose compliments the prickly pear. Even if it's California, they are getting that Southwest / Mexican feel to it right.

Writing a review in memoriam of the cactus/grapefruit recipe. Oh delicious, bright, smooth, sexy and thirst quenching prickly pear gose how I miss you so. It really feels like my dog died (I would say child but that sounds a bit extreme, but really, that is how much I loved this beer). Please come back. Your fetid lime/agave replacement is absolute swill :(

Bottled 12/18/15; drank 1/24/16 @ the Yarchives.
Semi-opaque pale yellow appearance.
A rough pour yielded a huge bright white head; minimal lace.
Lemon & sugar notes in the nose.
Thin mouthfeel.
Mildly tart lemon flavor up front; sweet honeyed wheat notes on the finish.
Simple but tasty; well balanced. This would shine on a summer day.

If you love beers like Tecate, Corona, and Dos Equis, but you're also a sour beer drinker, this one is a great fusion of both! With sharp sour lime flavors on the front with a tasty Mexican-style beer finish, this is truly the best of both worlds.

Malt and funk with a palate blasting tangy-tartness. This was a tough one for me to consume but it grew on me a little bit as I gave it a full chance.

(this rating is for the prickly pear recipe only) The prickly pear recipe hit the thirst quenching nail on the head, one of the best brews ever for it's purpose, perfectly subdued with a pleasant tartness and a crisp dry finish that left you ready for another drink .....the agave lime on the other hand....F***king yuck! Not fit to hold a gelding's balless sack. Looking forward to trying the next incarnation though! Cheers

Look: Clear yellow/amber color with a nice, rocky, white head and good lacing.
Smell: Lime, sour green apple, agave, mint, aloe vera. Smells a lot like a lemon-lime soda (Sprite). A bit of funkiness.
Taste: Salty lime up front. Tart, sour apple. Clean, slightly minty flavor. Some malt bread flavor, especially in the aftertaste.
Feel: Thin- to medium-bodied. Clean and slightly dry. Biting carbonation.
Overall: Very clean, lemon-lime, mint, carbonated. Extremely drinkable and refreshing.

Medium carbonation with below average body
Aroma is citrus/lemon/lime,malt
Taste is citrus, mildly tart and sour with just a right amount of sea salt
Very refreshing and light while being unique and well made. Not a home run but would make an excellent summer beer

Good beer. Light and tart. Would have been better in the summer. Kettle sour acidity and lime, can taste the salt just enough
