Style: Gose

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
In California, where temperatures often top triple digits, perfecting the warm weather beer is a priority. We happened upon a sweet-tangy blend of native-grown prickly pear cactus and grapefruit combined with the zing of a traditional gose for a vicious but delicious twist on the stodgy summer sippers.

Otra Vez is a tangy twist on the nearly extinct gose style. It combines the zip of prickly pear cactus with a hint of grapefruit for a bright and refreshing finish.

Hazy, bright yellow color. Thin white head didn't last long at all. Medium-strength scents of pineapple and lime. Taste is very citrus forward.....lots of lemon, lime and pineapple. Nice, refreshing finish. Good beer for a hot day. Crisp mouthfeel with a short finish.

In the glass: Hazy and light in color. Plenty of carbonation, slight head retention then formed a thin foamy ring around the edge of the glass.
On the nose: tang, bits of coriander and melon/citrus
taste: sour, briny, sweet, tangy and sweetness (grapefruit citrus pulling through in the middle) with a lingering malt body.
Mouthfeel: tart, fizzy, crisp and refreshing and medium bodied (wheat character)
Overall: You just don't get brewers attempting this style a whole lot anymore. Maybe it will make a comeback like the saison has been of recent years. I think the balance of the sweetness and fruit flavor of the grapefruit, low hoppy bitterness and zing of the cactus with sour from the lactic acid. Hints of coriander and earthy spice as well. On a hot day, this could be a great beach beer. I'd take this over a corona anyday. Cheers!

Poor head retention, cloudy like expected.
Smells half like a hefeweizen, half like a domestic lager. Wheat and yeast. Not great.
Mouth feel is pretty good for a beer this light in color.
It tastes like I'm drinking a weird beery lemonade. I taste wheat, lemon zest (or I guess grapefruit?), and that's it. It drys my mouth out like there's some kind of hops, but I don't pick them up on my tongue at all.
Overall: This beer doesn't seem thirst quenching to me. If I'm outside and sweating I don't prefer a beer that's dry to the tongue. I'll finish it, but I probably wont buy it again.

My first taste of Gose Style beer. Intrigued by description of prickly pear, coriander and grapefruit. I make a prickly pear fruit beer. I knew I was not a fan of sour beers but was not knowledgeable enough to know that Gose was a sour. What I get from the beer is pucker power. I am unable to discern the coriander and the prickly pear is not evident. The sour covers up up everything. the beer maybe great for those who like sours. typical Sierra Nevada in good presentation and excellent carbonation.
Need to have a bottle of water to chase this very dry/sour libation..

Initially I thought the first taste was extremely tangy and thought this was going to be disgusting. However, as I kept drinking it, it started to grow on me and thought it was interestingly good. I particularly like the saltiness to it, as its a Gose style and was my first experience of this style. Overall I enjoyed it considering its a dying style. Now I want to try more.

PKGD 4/20/17

A: Hazy bright yellow. Finger of white head. Carbonation is moderate, with small bubbles rising to the surface.

S: Light malts, mildly funky.

T: Small malt bill up front with mild acidity leaning through the mid palate. Tastes like a sour beer with training wheels. Some nondescript fruit characteristic and a touch of barnyard funk. Finish is a mild citrus/coriander.

M: Light. Crushable. Enough carbonation to make it refreshing.

O: Not bad. I'm not acclimated enough with sours styles but this one isn't particularly sour. It is refreshing, fairly flavorful and different. Easy beach beer.

Salty, briney, sour and sharp. Would pair amazing with raw seafood!

Pours pale yellow with a little haze, and lots of head.
Smells faint citrus, taste is sour with a slight funk to it. Like a cross between a grapefruit shanty and a saison but not as sweet.
Feels light and well carbonated.
Overall: Liked it. Good hot weather beer.

Maybe not a standout in todays sours, but a solid drinkable beer.

355ml can poured into a stemmed glass.

Hazy pale yellow color with thick frothy white head that withstands with pretty good retention before gradually subsiding to a lasting bubble sheet atop and leaving slight amount of lacing.

In a nose, tangy fruit, grapefruit, tart, sour lemon, kaffir lime, orange juice, pear, artificial fruit syrup, salt, and a hint of coriander.

It is so fruity through the palate sensation, grapefruit, tart, sour lemon, kaffir lime, orange juice, pear, fruity syrup, also salt, coriander, and mild bready from its Pale malt base.

Light body with crisp and lively carbonation, the mouthfeel is sharp with sour and tart but not puckering with good refreshing feel and rather dry finish. Perfect for summer day as a thirst-quenching agent or good to pair with spicy cuisine.
