S- Dull citrus/grapefruit, sweet orange. Pine, and vanilla.

T- Piney, grapefruit, subtle vanilla sweetness. Somme woody notes.

M- Medium body. Finish is a little on the sweet side with a dry bite.

O- Interesting mixture of flavors, yet melds well.

Pours a relatively clear straw colored ale with a nice amount of cream colored foam. Good lacing.

The aroma is slightly dank, orange, medicinal, tangerine and light cedar. Interesting smells here.

The taste is very much hoppy, citrusy and spicy. Big grapefruit rind-like mouthwatering aftertaste. There is a big malt wash as it warms but it is very hop forward as it should be based on the name.

Overall I dug this session. Interesting flavors and complexity abound. Worth finding to see what the world of varietals is all about. Good stuff.

12 oz bottle. Pours slightly hazy golden orange with a big frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is bready malt with tropical fruit hops with slight floral notes.

The flavor is biscuity malt with a little sweet resiny fruit and a grassy metallic hop bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I didn't really care for the flavors.

L: Pours an almost-clear light caramel topped by a moderate white head.

S: Bitter citrus, some earth tones. Good sweet malts for balance.

T: Front is warm citrus continuing on to biscuit/caramel sweetness. Finish is crisp and refreshingly bitter.

F: Crisp, medium bodied, and well carbonated.

O: A good alternative to more citrus-centered IPAs. Crisp and fairly bitter while retaining enough malt character for balance. Would buy again if given the chance.

Aroma is pine, citrus/fruit funk and a hint of berry sweetness. The flavor is fruit/berries, malts, grapefruit, spices and a mix of light sweetness and creeping bitterness/spiciness in the finish. Much smoother than expected.

Appearance: golden/amber; hazy; big frothy white head, long lasting, good lacing

Smell: tropical fruit; resiny hops; sweet malts

Taste: bitter hops right off the bat; sweet malts in the mid; finishes with hoppy aftertaste; not my favorite flavor

Mouthfeel: fairly thin, but pretty smooth overall

Remarks: not my favorite style, but it's not bad overall

Part of their 4 Way IPA 12 pack sampler. Pours a clear perfect amber with a 1-2 finger head that fades to a nice lacing. Smells of earthy hops and sweet caramel malt. Tastes of light caramal malt and earthy slightly citrus hops. Well balanced. Finishes crisp and clean wih lingering bitterness. Worth trying but I'm not much for earthy hop flavors, so I doubt I'll be seeking this one out. But if that's your thing, give it a go!

This is from one of my top favorite California breweries. They just make great beer period!! Enjoyed all 6 of them from a mix 24 pack I purchased at Costco. Just a well balanced IPA. Tropical Fruit flavor with a nice hop finish. Definite hints of vanila and coconut. But its a real IPA not a fruity beer. I would recommend and would love another 6!! Try it if you can find it!!

Comes out a golden color with what seems like perfection in the clarity department. Aroma dropped nice barley and hops, wild hops? This seemed earthy, citrus like.

Taste was a lightly toasted base, minimal crystal malt if any, good golden malt feels, hopping of cascades and some earthy almost wild like variety. There is a balance to the hops used here, some earthy, some citrus, some woodsy, I like it. Just when lemon and grapefruit seem to be top dog, some of the golden like malt/barley whisks it away. Then a wave of balsa wood drops along in such a small way.

Poured into tulip glass. Nice 2 finger head went down 1/2 fairly quickly. Very flowery on the nose, after there's 5 different kinds of hops in here. Initially flavor is very hoppy and pleasant, but something about the aftertaste gets too bitter. I love their torpedo, and the hop hunter as well, will stick with those for my Sierra Nevada ipa's.

Had this in the fridge for at least a month. Into a regular pint.

A - Clear bright amber brown tons of carbonation bubbles in the glass feeding the 1/4 inch of frothy head that takes a minute to settle.
S - Pretty clean citrus or pine hops it blends well with the malts used.
T - Classic IPA through and through starts off bitter then leads to a sweet malt body and finishes mildly dry with a fading bitterness that keeps you coming back.
M - Light refreshing session able.

Overall I think I like this a touch more than torpedo since the malts balance a bit more like a wet hop IPA. Tasty!

12 oz bottle poured into a stemmed glass. Nice dark golden color and fresh head. It was a very good, and drinkable IPA from Sierra Nevada, hop forward, but yet still balanced. Nothing really stood out, but that's never a bad thing either while enjoying the beer.

Fairly clear golden brew with a nice white head that leaves lots of bands of lacing. The aroma is floral with pine and citrus notes. There is also a bit of grass in there. The taste is light with citrus fruit and pine followed by a massive bread, cracker, yeast taste.

Hazy golden. Nice head and retention. Smells grassy and floral. Slight earthiness. Nice carbonation mildly prickly. Pine and floral notes. Hints of grass and lemon. Mild malt sweetness and finishes decently dry. The mouthfeel on this one is where it's at! Keeps you wanting more and very refreshing!

Smell: light grapefruit and some pine are picked up by the nose.

Taste: caramel, grapefruit, mango, pine, some earth tones, and a moderate bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Light crispness to start, mildly dry at the finish.

Overall: a well balanced IPA that is easy to drink and is mildly refreshing.

The Five Hop is another very good offering by Sierra Nevada. It poured a light copper clear with white head that is leaving a lace. The scent has pine and bitter citrus notes. The taste is bitter through the beer but its balanced enough to make it drinkable. There is pine and bitter hop presence. Just a touch of grapefruit at the end. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall this is awesome and worth a try.

12 oz bottle packaged 3/9/16 poured into a tulip glass.

A - Clear golden orange , two finger fluffy head.

S - Tropical fruit, wood, cherry, lemon.

T - None of the above? Heavy bread.

M - Carbonation medium low, medium heft.

O - I'll have to give this another try (at least twice, based on what's left from the mix pack). Seems a little off.

Moderately hazy orange-bronze body, a few lazy bubbles rise, rocky white head, sticky lace. Nose is... faint. Citrus fruit, mild malt. Flavor is also timid, weakly displaying citrus, wood pulp, mild spice, faint chalk. Mildly bitter and refreshing. Body is lively, medium weight.
This just didn't hit my mark, nor any mark for that matter. There was flavor, and although it had an edge to it, there was also no place to pinpoint it. Just not a lot of flavor, which is still better than the usual buttery warm notes that "experimental hops" seem to offer.

Nice gold color with a hint of orange. Off-white head that was far stiffer and thicker than I would have guessed, with ample carbonation keeping it up there for some time. Nose: oranges hit first, then a swirl of other citrus notes, including some lemon. Also a definite wet weedy note. Taste was more subtle than the nose led me to expect, and nicely balanced. Orange / citrus hops again prominent. The hop bitterness takes a second to hit, and is never overwhelming - not simply bitter for the sake of bitterness. Feel was very clean, fresh, otherwise not remarkable. Given the name I wondered if the hops would overwhelm, or if there would be a jumble of non-integrated hops flavors, but neither was the case, though of course this is unquestionably a hoppy beer, with malt flavors minimal and unobtrusive.

Label says "PKGD 01/27/16 1928" I was able to buy a single at a local store and have not tried others in the IPA Variety Pack that this is part of.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of citrus, grapefruit and toasted caramel. Sweet citrusy bite with caramel maltiness.

Pours an effervescent honey color with 2+ fingers of pearl colored head. Stellar lacing & head retention

S: Grapefruit & a little lemon

T: Grassyness, grapefruit peel & a little breadyness up front. A little pear mixes with lemon & grapefruit, plus dryness as this warms. Finishes with dryness, grapefruit & pomelo, plus a little pine & lemongrass

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation & pretty good balance

Pretty drinkable, a decent enough IPA, but nothing to get excited about

Pours a golden color with a soapy white head that left a small wall of lacing on the glass.

The aroma is hoppy with notes of citrus and pepper. Strong grapefruit presence with light orange. A bit of pepper and pine to bring some earthiness.

Bigger orange and pine notes in the flavor. Some grapefruit and grapefruit rind. The pine and resin is quite strong and dominates any of the citrus notes. The malt takes a neutral stance to allow the hops to batter the palate.

Moderate feel with prickly carbonation. Starts sweet but quickly turns bitter. The beer is quite dry in the finish with significant aspirin characteristics.

Reminds me of the old school west coast IPA's - big piney bitter bombs. If that is your thing, you will love this beer.

Five Hop is part of the currently available SN mixed twelve pack featuring four different IPAs. I've really seen a laser focus from this brewer on that style for several years now, at least since Torpedo hit the market.

Attractive pour with golden color and off white head that doesn't last. Plenty of visible carbonation and not as translucent as many of the style, with minimal "floaties". Plenty of grapefruit and a touch of tropical fruit and sea salt on the nose.

This one is a little thin up front with a little too much carbonation but there is backloaded pine and dry grapefruit tones in the aftertaste. Some sweet malts bounce around and the whole concoction is a little uneven and off balance overall in both taste and texture. The "Experimental" part seems to fit as this seems like something that's not quite mastered and lacking in their usual discipline.

Certainly not bad, but considering the Celebration Ale and Torpedo and some of their other solid pale ale choices, probably not something I'd go out of my way for.

Poured hazy straw gold with fluffy white head that laced very well. Scent was fruity citrus with light pine. Flavor was mostly citrus fruits, orange, grapefruit, pineapple with some pine bitterness to round out the flavors. A few minor unique flavors such as vanilla and oak blend with the malt backbone to give this beer a lot of complexity.
