The Five Hop is another very good offering by Sierra Nevada. It poured a light copper clear with white head that is leaving a lace. The scent has pine and bitter citrus notes. The taste is bitter through the beer but its balanced enough to make it drinkable. There is pine and bitter hop presence. Just a touch of grapefruit at the end. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall this is awesome and worth a try.

Bottle > Tulip Glass

A - Clear golden yellow with a nice big bubbly white foamy head, thick lacing
S - Not as much intense and unique hop aroma as I was hoping, kinda green earthy and herbal notes, some hop resin, lots of grain, I can tell there's pilsner malt in here. Some light hints of cracker and green pepper, light wood tone too.
T - Man, not what I was expecting at all. I'm really sick of breweries using pilsner malts and grains in IPA's, it detracts from the hops so much. Lots of bitter graininess to this one, very weak hop flavor. No sign of coconut as the label reads, some cedar, no vanilla at all, minor traces of grapefruit and orange peel, just lots of dry bitter grainy crackery pilsner flavor.
M - Clean, dry, bitter.
O - Total meh, this beer is a huge disappointment, lacks any really exciting hop flavor, and get rid of the pilsner malt for goodness sakes.

Moderately hazy orange-bronze body, a few lazy bubbles rise, rocky white head, sticky lace. Nose is... faint. Citrus fruit, mild malt. Flavor is also timid, weakly displaying citrus, wood pulp, mild spice, faint chalk. Mildly bitter and refreshing. Body is lively, medium weight.
This just didn't hit my mark, nor any mark for that matter. There was flavor, and although it had an edge to it, there was also no place to pinpoint it. Just not a lot of flavor, which is still better than the usual buttery warm notes that "experimental hops" seem to offer.

12oz bottle dated 1/1816. This is an abrasive, unrepentant sipper of an IPA. You won't find a more complex IPA at this abv. Pretty much like chewing on a mouthful of orange peel, pine needles, and cedar bark. Congrats to SN for swimming way against the tropical currents. Not something you'd choose when you want something crushable, but if you're in the right mood, very enjoyable.

A fine offering from SN, but not as unique as I'd hoped. Excellent foam/lacing on top of a goldenrod body. Nose is some orange peel, white grapefruit, something lightly woody, a light greenness/grassiness. Don't really get any coconut as the label suggests. Palate is similar, a touch herbal, and with an enduring orange pith bitterness. It's tasty, to be sure. Not something you'd be sad to find in your fridge. But I'd sooner have SNPA/Torpedo/etc., to be honest.

Pours a hazy golden color, with a fairly large white head. Little visible carbonation. Quite a bit of lacing. This looks gorgeous.

Smells of piney hops, with some citrus.

Taste is full of hops, and subtle exotic fruit. Also has some floral and herbal notes. Mouthfeel is quite dry, which is quite unappealing to me - even though that is admittedly a personal taste-preference rather than a legitimate criticism of this beer.

Overall, I was disappointed by this. It certainly has quite a bit of complexities, but I don't necessarily feel like that makes it balanced. I have in the past have had a hard time with IPA's that are not either juicy, or sweet. This is neither, and thus it comes as no surprise that I don't appreciate it.

Looks gorgeous though

I really enjoyed this ipa. Five Hop has nice tropical, floral and coconut flavors working well together. Along with a crisp clean finish, Sierra Nevada's spring ipa offering has enough flavor and craftsmanship going on to satisify most hop heads.

Picked up the ipa variety pack with this included, poured into a pint glass. Color was a translucent straw yellow, a bit lighter than Im used to for an IPA. The flavor and aroma were strong on the pine, almost too much. Mouthfeel was smooth for an IPA...overall a weird construction. Possibly a bit overrated.

Upon pour, I am greeted with a clean amber color and lacey white head. I am overwhelmed with a grapefruit and orange rind aroma. It's distinct, not tropical, not citrusy. A whisp of hayfield grass finishes. In the mouth it's lighter bodied than what I consider a normal IPA to be. Overall, this is a great success. They produced an IPA that gives a slightly different aroma profile which was very exciting.
