Collaboration with Bagby Beer Company, Beachwood Brewing, The Lost Abbey, Smog City Brewing, Societe Brewing Company.
This stout hails from the land of sun, sand, and surf and proves that beach beer doesn't have to be light and delicate. Stout of the Union is rich, roasty, and full of deep malt flavor, creating a union of like-minded brewers together through beer.

Poured into a snifter.
4.0 A: Black color. Two fingers of frothy light brown head. Retention is very good and a half finger ring of lacing is left.
2.0 S: Huge caramel and molasses aromas, and in fact, too much of them. Very sweet overall with chocolate and a mixture of sweetened, dried dark fruits. There's a char component which attempts to balance the nose, but in the end, it doesn't make much of a dent on the sweet caramel. It rather makes it that much less appealing. Coffee notes as well.
1.75 T: The taste isn't any better than the nose. Indeed, it finds a way to be worse. It has the same sickening overload of caramel and molasses and mixes in an intense burnt flavor. Also too much hop bitterness. It does a great job of taking the worst aspects of the nose and amplifying them. Again some coffee as an afterthought.
2.75 M: Medium body, but feels thin and lifeless on the tongue. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy, but not enough to make up for the general feel.
2.0 D: This is a pretty piss poor beer. It's a shame it took so many breweries to ruin this beer when I could have just as easily ruined it with just myself. So far the $30 I blew on the 12-pack is looking like a waste of money.

June 22nd, 2016 - Part of the Beer Camp Across America Series, this good little stout has an aroma that leans towards soy sauce and teriyaki, though it is hard to pick it out from the enormous head that billows up after the pour. The flavor is on the milder side, and isn't especially robust, and may even be very average. But I continue to smell the beer like a fresh bouquet of flowers.

Bottled 4/6/16; drank 5/5/16 @ the Yarchives.
Black/brown appearance.
A rough pour yielded a HUGE dark tan head; strong, frothy lace.
Roasted coffee bean, dark chocolate, fresh earth & faint grapefruit notes in the nose.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Cream & roasted coffee bean flavors up front; fresh earth & faint grapefruit bite on the finish.
Interesting flavors that hung together well; not transcendent but above average.

12 oz. bottle poured into Imperial pint.
A- Deep brown. Head is dark brown and retains low, but strong. Lacing is lumpy all around the glass, all the way down.
S- Roast, syrupy malt, vanilla, dark fruit, hints of black cherry.
T- Toasty in flavor with a mild roast background. Sweet notes of chocolate and dried fruit.
M- Full body, and silky smooth. Finish is roasty and sweet.
O- Really nice. The dark fruit character is a nice change from big roasty and chocolaty stouts.

This was yet another beer from last year's Beer Camp Pack that a friend gave to me out of the pack that I bought him for his birthday. It was dated 4/6 and given how long I had this in my stash for, it held up well once I poured it out. Not as strong as a typical Stout, this was quite thick and roasted as it needed a bit chaser of water to wash it down when all was said and done!
I liked the pour to this as the cola brown-hued liquid was topped off with tons of rich, mocha head that took it's time settling down. Lots of bubbles in it as the lacing left behind was quite soapy and prevalent as well. Not much of an aroma to this as the nose was quite muted, with hints of cocoa nibs and powder in it. Very roasted taste as it was almost to the point of overkill, with more powder and chocolate in it. Quite malty, the hops never really had a chance to emerge as this was quite dry and full.
The alcohol was muted here as this *almost* felt like a session beer. Easy to drink for a Stout, it needed more dark fruit and bitterness in it to get to the next level. This was a fun dessert beer that was worth a go once but felt like a meal when I was finished with it...

12 oz. Bottle
Pours a pretty nice brown color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger light tan head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, chocolate/toffee, vanilla. The taste is malty, chocolate/toffee, vanilla. Medium body. Overall, a nice little brew.
