The Plato scale is a measurement of the density of liquid. The number tells brewers how big or small a resulting beer will be—the larger the number the bigger the beer. We designed 11.5° Plato—a lower number on the beer scale—to give us just enough body to support a heavy heap of hops. The result is an easy-drinking session IPA which satisfies the thirst for hops, but urges you to have another round.

This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a burnt/bronzed golden orange to brown color with a finger and a half of concave fluffy white foamy head. The pace of dissipation was nice and even. Light rings of foam. The smell had bitter grapefruit rind with a light pulp/pith - like slick - ness to it. Light citrus hops bounce in for a decent balance. The flavor starts bitter and then becomes bittersweet. Semi-sticky aftertaste. Subtle dry sweet quick finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light allowing hoppy bitterness to bite on my tongue. Overall, I say this was a pretty good session IPA. I would have again.

Sierra Nevada tries their hand again at a session IPA and it turns out just as I would expect- a really solid beer with that characteristic Sierra Nevada hop profile but nothing that is going to shift worlds or anything. This is a decent beer, but as far as hoppy, lower ABV options go, I believe there are better available at this point.

A: crystal clear; medium gold in color; 1 finger white head that receded to a very thin cap; very nice lacing;

S: grass and grain with a hint of citrus;

T: low to moderate bitterness from start to finish; flavor is subdued; what's there follows the nose;

M: light to medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;

O: not especially interesting, but nicely balanced for a session IPA;
