At first sip I was intrigued by the mango, passion fruit, and papaya but halfway down it was just too sweet and club soda like. Reminds me a lot of Kona Big Wave with some club soda hop bitterness. Better than expected but not my favorite SN.

L - Strangely similar in color to the sunlit bottle it came from. Healthy white head with some lacing. Medium carbonation.
S - Nondescript hop aromas with a touch of the tropical fruit sweetness.
T - Follows the aromas with some citrus rind in the finish.
F - Medium body that is lightened by the carbonation.
O - Good but not outstanding in a saturated market. Part of the IPA 4 Days sampler case from Costco. At a little more than a buck a bottle it would be hard to be disappointing although I would pick others over it.

This offering from SA was a tough one to judge...

On the one hand, it looked great and smelled even better: A light amber, mostly yellow color topped off with a thick, white foam and decent lacing down the pint glass; the smell you got was what was mostly advertised - mango and papaya, but not too much passionfruit, all of it mixing well with the hop-forward nose. But then on the other hand, a mouthfeel that was light-bodied and crisp but way to carbonated for my liking, no end in sight; a taste that as described by hop-forward and in your face. I just wish it was a little tamped down to let the fruity flavors out from behind that iron curtain of hops. Overall, I will admit its a good beer and I'm sure there are craft lovers out there that find this more enjoyable than I did.

Sierra Nevada means I have high expectations. Purchased in a mix and match 6 pack at Ingle's in Loganville.

Pours a crystal clear, lightly tinted amber with a nearly pure white head that has very good retention that eventually reduces to a thin skin and decent side glass lace.
AROMA: Hops are most notable, with the citrus mango most prominent. Also get some pine nuts and some bread malts.
TASTE: Well balanced as the hops are moderate with the bread malts.
Creamy, malty on the tongue.
Drying tart citrus at the finish.

12oz bottle, unsure of the date it was bottled but assumed to be fresh, poured into a 14oz snifter glass. Enjoyed on 9.24.17, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a bright copper color, light amber with orange hues that is very clear with a few bubbles rising to the top of the glass where a foamy white head crests that has good retention and nice swatches of lace. The aroma is nice, very tropical, mango and passionfruit leap from the glass, quite floral with plenty of bitter pine and grassy hops with just a kiss of pale grain. The flavors are nice, fairly juicy hops, tropical fruits are there with some underlying citrus, bitter grapefruit peel with some resinous pine and grassy hops and a stick sweet cereal grain flavor lingers. The mouthfeel is good, coating, lively and crisp medium body that has a nice dry finish.

Verdict: A good IPA from Sierra Nevada. Nice and tropical as advertised, brighter but perhaps less balanced than Torpedo on its own. Great for the availability and price point for sure.

Pretty much exactly as advertised. Tropical and citrus aromas and flavors are the star of the show, balanced against a solid golden malt backbone. Enjoyable if not mind-blowing.

And thank you SN for not putting actual fruit into this IPA!
