Single Hop Cascade IPASingle Hop Cascade IPA
Notes: This IPA features the flavors of the Cascade hop in an all-new way. Highlighting its signature citrus, pine and floral flavors, this IPA is an homage to the hop varietal that helped cultivate the love of bold, hop-forward beers for brewers worldwide and made our original Draught-style Pale Ale a modern beer classic.

Copper colored with an inch of tightly compacted dense off white head. Heavy lacing. The nose is weak light malt and even weaker citrus. I'm tasting some nice citrus and grassy hop flavor along with light malt. The mouth is lightly sticky and dry.

A: Pours a lightly hazy medium golden apricot in color with moderate to heavy amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate golden yellow + amber colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall sudsy foamy tan head that slowly reduces to a medium sized patch of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of pine + citrus/grapefruit pith + herbal hops over a light to moderate aroma of lightly toasted biscuit + caramel malts.

T: Upfront there are just shy of moderate flavors of lightly toasted biscuit malts with a light amount of caramel malts as well though only a hint of sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit pith + herbal + pine hops which contribute a light to moderate amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp upfront with a hint of dryness in the finish.

O: Easy to drink and enjoyable - a decent showcase of the cascade hop (which seems kind of old school nowadays). Alcohol is well hidden.

12 oz bottle. in SC.
Slightly hazy amber body with a medium size white head. The head is only semi-durable but leaves excellent lacing.

Aroma: slightly dank and moderately hoppy and floral with hints of hay, herbs and citrus peel.

Flavor: more (and more appropriate for style) hoppy than the aroma suggests. Hints of citrus, pine resin, herbs.

Feel: medium-light body with lively, medium+ carbonation. Dry finish.

Poured out a clear golden orange color with a small white head. It left some lace. It smelled very piney and of roasted malt. This had a very strong piney bite. Bittersweet with a burnt toast maltiness. It was crisp and sharp.

Ok, I may have had a few beers but this tastes and feels very similar to SN Pale Ale. The cascade does shine thru as it does with the Pale Ale. SN has so many great beers that this is not a stand out but reminds me of days gone by where SN Pale Ale was the only good choice!!!

From the rear label: "PKGD 11/22/16 1532"

Appearance: The body is a slightly hazy hazy dull gold color. It has a medium sized fluffy white cap with great retention.

Aroma: It has this great earthy, mossy, and broken hop bine aroma. It is not strong but it smells very good.

Taste: At first the beer gives this kind-of earthy tea and light mint flavor. This follows with an almost empty space in the middle of the mouth. The finish has a bit of a cedar flavor.

Mouthfeel: Not a lot of bitterness and similarly the body just feels a bit empty. The carbonation is good.

Overall: It is not a very interesting beer but I would still recommend it to a person who has not had a single hop beer containing cascade. It was worth drinking once (in the snowpack) but I wouldn't buy it regularly.

I really enjoy the "single" ingredient beers, one hop and or one malt variety allows the single attributes to shine. Cascade hop (as stated on the neck lable of this 12 oz. Bottle) "....the signature citrus-pine flavors helped the distinguish the American craft beer renaissance". Also a major factor in the IPA explosion that continues to dominate the American craft beer market.

Lots of life to this clear golden brew. A sizeable white froth kicks around and recedes slow. Some very nice, chunky lace is left behind.

A sweet honey malty aroma leads way to a fruity, sweet-pine, mild citrus and earthy hop scent. Not a very bold hoppy aroma but clearly well balanced with the malt. This one smells much more like Pale Ale.

The feel is a rather light body, very clean with a crisp bite.

The flavor is much the same, a very light flavor, very well balanced but still has me thinking this is a very good Pale ale, not so much an IPA. A very earthy, herbal hop flavor, not at all citrusy or fruity. The malt is very nice, buttery and honey sweet, not at all heavy, very light effect. Maybe some very gentle floral tones but mostly very earthy.

A bit suprised at the IPa "light" impression from most aspects of this beer. It's enjoyable, heck, even big crushability, not very complex, especially for the "masters of the cascade hop" (thats my quote) Sierra Nevada.

Part of trade with Marty
12 oz bottle marked “PKGD 9/19/16 1948” at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma – flowers and some citrus, grapefruit; weak initially and unnoticeable by the end.
Head large (Maximum 4.6 cm, aggressive pour), off white, frothy, good retention, diminishing to an irregular one to twelve mm frothy ring and a thick, rocky island forming a partial layer.
Lacing is fair with multiple islands and archipelagoes of mostly tiny bubbles
Body golden, some chill haze, slight effervescence
Flavor – bitter. Due to the age, some of the hop flavor has died leaving more of the malt to shine through. The hop bitterness remains after the maltiness is gone. Neither alcohol nor diacetyl are present in either taste or aroma.
Palate medium, slightly oily, lively carbonation

The hop bitterness hangs around after the beer is consumed. Unfortunately the grapefruitiness associated with cascade hops is pretty weak at this time.

Pours a golden straw with a finger of head. The nose is slightly piney but there is nothing terribly pungent in the nose. The flavor is quite hop forward with crisp piney notes.

Appearance: Semi-cloudy amber. Thick head of off-white suds and an attractive, frilly lacing.

Aroma: Citrus and floral hops all the way. Nice.

Taste: Ah, the classic bitter citrus/grapefruit and pine notes of the Cascade! There are also plenty of malts here to balance those hops. Drinks just like a classic American IPA before all the tropical-inspired hops started creeping in. This is an old-school IPA and one I’d love to have more often.

This beer highlights all of the best aspects of the cascade hop from the smell to the taste. Aromas of tea, citrus, and pine. The malt flavor rolls off the tongue after the initial wave of hop taste. Barely any bitterness, and goes down very easily for an IPA. Good beer.

I am going to start by saying I think this beer is under-rated.

The pour revealed a clear, golden liquid with an immense foamy white head that persited and left a lot of cling on the glass.

Aroma is crisp and clean. Floral, citrusy, spicy with a very nice crackery aroma from the malt. The aroma is not overwhelming, but is very clean and clearly defined. Slight green grassy notes eventually show up to accent the scent.

The taste is bright and balanced. Every aspect of Cascade reveals itself. Floral hits me first, followed by a nice level of grapefruit, then a bit of peppery spice on the top. This all sits on a very pilsener like malt that is crackery crisp. Clean, clean, well-defined flavors with nothing overwhelming. Subtle, full flavor rather than overkill sledgehammer.

This is a light-bodied beer that goes down easily. There us a pleasant tingle from the peppery notes.

Overall, I find this to be an excellent beer that highlights the Cascade hops beautifully. Ample flavor delivered in a refreshing beverage that is not overpowering. Well done!

This beer came in a mixed case that I bought from cosco. It poured a clear golden with white head that left some lace. The taste is nicely balanced with pine bitterness through the drink. The Mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a good beer and worth a try

Pale peach tea color, pretty clear for an IPA these days, with just a little haze. Three-plus fingers of lasting bright white head that leaves heavy lacing.

Nice crisp, almost pils-like aroma with slight fresh-cut grass and cracker-like malt, with a slight tropical fruitiness behind, and maybe just a hint of the pine and orange citrus I was expecting.

The taste, at eleven weeks in, is also very Pilsner-like, again with more crisp cracker and grass character than hop bitterness, citrus or pine. There's a ghost of tropical sweetness in there again, too.

The mouthfeel is relatively light bodied, clear and highly drinkable.

I'm actually enjoying this quite a bit, but more as a lager. I think I may have missed the IPA phase on this one -- which surprises me as most Sierra Nevada's I've tried have had legs.

L: Light Copper gold color with a creamy white head and not a lot of lacing.

S: Pine and grass, a slight bit of toasted cracker malt and some tropical fruit, not as strong aroma as some IPAs.

F: Pine sap and grass, pine and a little tropical fruit and toasted malt. Bitterness is light for an IPA.

F: Light body and higher carbonation. A very easy drinking IPA.

O: This feels kinda like a light IPA that is very easy drinking but nothing stands out about it.

Poured from 12oz bottle with bottle date of September 20th 2016 into standard pint glass.

L: Honey bronze with white finger width head. Good lacing.

S: Quite balanced aroma of citrus and pine hops and toasted biscuits.

T: Again very well balanced between hops and malt. Hop flavors are pine, citrus and a hint of floral. Toasted biscuit backbone keeps this beer balanced and makes the finish wonderful.

F: Light bodied and not too much alcohol makes this an easy drinker and extremely easy on the palate.

O: Wonderful IPA.

Appearance- Bright orange-yellow with a very tall course bubbled white head. Somewhat hazy yet semi clear.

Smell- Flowery aroma, very sweet, peppery

Taste- Sweet bready malt, building in citric flavor. Tangerine and mango, definitely carries with it the tropical fruit notes. Pine lingers in there as well right to the finish, leaving the palate bitter.

Mouthfeel- Medium heavy in body with active carbonation.

Overall- A flavorful and sweet IPA. This one is smooth yet average. It tastes just as an IPA should. For those who like the more tropical IPA's check this one out.

Part of the winter mix twelver that's out now. I like the look. Light yellow/orange, long lasting head with good lacing.
Getting some decent flowery hops and some malt on the scent. Nothing out of the ordinary. Tastes a bit like SNPA with a bit more bitterness. Pretty smooth, some bitterness on the back end brings the score down just a bit.

Overall, a bit of a let down for SN. Good, but not one I'll seek out again.

This IPA, crafted using only Cascade hops, is a slightly hazy golden color with a slight orange tint and a medium frothy white head. It is a little lighter than the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. The smell is also a little milder than Pale Ale, but the profile is similar with citrus notes dominating, followed by pine, and there are some light florals as well. The taste is of grapefruit, pine, some light grassy florals, and pepper with a light cracker-like malt backbone. The finish is somewhat bitter and I would say that this is more hop oriented and less well balanced compared to Pale Ale. The body is light to medium and the finish is quite dry. I find this less refreshing than Pale Ale and not as refined. I personally can see why Pale Ale replaced this as the flagship beer as I think it is an all-around better beer. This may be a good showcase of what Cascade hops are, but it lacks some polish and it is kind of boring in my opinion.

Pours a bright bronze orange. Clear to the eye and effervescent. Thin white head dissipates steadily leaving a slight slick of white foam. Lots of sticky lacing.

Smell is rather dankish with notes of grass, floral notes, and a nice malty backbone.

Taste follows the nose with grass, floral notes, mild citrus notes, and some bitterness up front. Strong bready malt backbone stands out on the finish. Touch sweet.

Feel is a bit on the heavy side - but that just may be the sweetness. Medium carbonation. Smooth. Semi-dry bitter finish.

Overall a well crafted IPA - very much a classic west-coast style.
