Very Good
Single Hop Cascade IPASingle Hop Cascade IPA
Notes: This IPA features the flavors of the Cascade hop in an all-new way. Highlighting its signature citrus, pine and floral flavors, this IPA is an homage to the hop varietal that helped cultivate the love of bold, hop-forward beers for brewers worldwide and made our original Draught-style Pale Ale a modern beer classic.

I think this might be my very first "single hop" brew - I kinda liked it.

The beer had a run-of-the-mill look but it did have this nice orange hue that added matched well with the perfectly white head. Though the head had no staying power it had very nice lacing down the glass. The odor was really non-existent for me. I was looking for these floral and pine scents, but I couldn't pull that out from the beer. The mouthfeel was one of the most memorable ones I have had in quite some time - clean, very crisp, but very light - truly amazing. Taste-wise the single-hop wasn't anything that overly surprised me, but it was decent enough to be good. Overall, a very good beer from a brewer I had a rocky start with, but I'm beginning to warm up to more and more.

Appearance - Pours relatively clear and golden orange in color with an off-white, finger width head. Fair retention before fading to a thin. broken layer of suds. Good lacing found around the glass with broken webbing and some spotting.

Smell - Slightly piney, slight citrus and a bit of bready malt.

Taste - Follows the nose. Hops hit with a slightly piney, slightly citrusy flavor while the malts balance it out with bready, slightly toasty sweetness. A faint hint of caramel in the finish, but otherwise not much to this.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium in body with moderate, bitey carbonation. Goes down smooth with a crisp, slightly dry finish.

Overall - Pretty good beer, but it is what it is - a single hop brew. Nothing to write home about, but it's a nice education on the characteristics of the Cascade hop.

From the rear label: "PKGD 11/22/16 1532"

Appearance: The body is a slightly hazy hazy dull gold color. It has a medium sized fluffy white cap with great retention.

Aroma: It has this great earthy, mossy, and broken hop bine aroma. It is not strong but it smells very good.

Taste: At first the beer gives this kind-of earthy tea and light mint flavor. This follows with an almost empty space in the middle of the mouth. The finish has a bit of a cedar flavor.

Mouthfeel: Not a lot of bitterness and similarly the body just feels a bit empty. The carbonation is good.

Overall: It is not a very interesting beer but I would still recommend it to a person who has not had a single hop beer containing cascade. It was worth drinking once (in the snowpack) but I wouldn't buy it regularly.

I picked up a bottle of Sierra Nevada's Single Hop Cascade IPA in their new Fall variety pack. I'm in the mood for something hoppy today and this one sounds pretty good, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into an IPA glass.

A- The label looks nice, it's got a nice design to it and it's a little eye catching. It poured a hazy orange color that took on more of a golden orange color when held to the light with almost two and half fingers worth of chunky and creamy off white head that died down to a thick layer that stayed till the end and it left some nice rings of patchy lacing behind.. This is a very nice looking IPA, I have no complaints at all.

S- The aroma starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the hops being the first to show up and they impart some grassy, earthy, dank, green hop and light citrus peel like aroma that go into some doughy yeast aromas. up next comes a little bit more citrus rind that's followed by the malts which impart a caramel malt, light toasted malt, bread crust, light biscuit and light grainy aromas. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, I like the hop profile and it's well balanced.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the hops still being the first to show up and they impart all the same aspects that they did in the aroma, but this time the citrus rind aspects show up a little more imparting more of an orange aspects than it did in the aroma. Up next comes a little bit of doughy yeast that leads into the malts which impart all the same aspects that they did in the aroma, they are just a little lighter this time. On the finish there's a slightly higher amount of medium bitterness with a nice dank hoppy aftertaste. This is a pretty nice tasting IPA, the hops profile is nice and the balance is just where it should be for the style.

M- Smooth, a little crisp, slightly creamy, on the slightly thicker side of being medium bodied with a slightly higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is good and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a pretty nice beer and it's a nice example of the style, it had all the aspects that I was looking for with just the right amount of balance. This beer had nice drinkability, I could drink a couple of them. What I like the most about this beer is the balance, mouthfeel and appearance, those were all pretty good. What I like the least about this beer is that the aroma wasn't a little more like the taste. I would buy this beer on it's own and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid single hop ipa. All in all I enjoyed this beer and it was up to the standard that I expect from Sierra Nevada. It's not a favorite beer from this brewery, but it is a nice single hop IPA and it showcases the cascade hops nicely. Nice Job guys, this is a solid IPA, keep it up.

Poured into a tulip glass bottled on 9/19/16. Pours a hazy orange with a solid 2 finger sticky white head, that leaves incredible lace behind.

Smell is Christmas trees, mango, pinapple, and grapefruit really solid.

Tastes follows a huge pine hit almost blue spruce, pinapple, mango, and aggressive shot of grapefruit in the finish.

Mouthfeel is about medium, nice amount of life, a bit dry not complaining, and more flavor than the 6.3% ABV, but very approachable.

Overall this is very nice. I would drink this a few times a week easily. Now how to get rid of the SN Pale Ale in The Snow Pack.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/19/2016. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing cling on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, pine, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and peasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dank citrus/pine/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, pine, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/herbal/spicy and light citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, cracker, bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dank citrus/pine/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, sticky/resinous, and fairly grainy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 6.3%. Overall this is a very nice single hop IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dank citrus/pine/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink. This was a lot more dank/earthy on hop character than I expected; wonder if they used fresh whole flower hops. A very enjoyable offering.

12 oz. bottle poured into tulip
(9/10/2016 born-on date)

L: hazy gold with fluffy white head of foam ... head is over an inch tall, super thick and sticky; the haziness isn't 100% opaque ... you can see through the beer and it's clearing, starting off at about 40-50% clear; lots of sediment ... I tried to keep it in the bottle but poured a little too long; if you can keep the sediment in the bottle, my bet is it's a brilliant looking brew; the head is classic Sierra Nevada ... sticky and lacing all the way down the glass off a constant skin and collar

S: ruby red grapefruit with a slight floral note; apricot and peach with a lot of sweetness from the malt mixing in, perhaps a bit of bread/bread dough/biscuit in there; sweet orange and pine

T: bittersweet pine and grapefruit, some sweet orange; malt presence is thick as we go, very sweet and trying hard to push in a biscuity flavor among all the hoppy notes

F: lightweight but filled out nicely by the carbonation; as a slight ale slickness to it that works very well

O: Sierra Nevada doesn't make bad beers, and it especially does not make bad hoppy beers; this one is excellent ... it came in the winter snow pack and wasn't one I was looking forward to trying, at least not as much as the Scotch ale and coffee stout, yet like every SN brew I try, it's worth the trouble and the cost; as good an IPA as Torpedo and Celebration

Pours a pale yellow green with a tight frothy off white head = nice retention leaving ample lace.

Citrus and tropical fruit backed by piney hops in the nose with notes of floral hops.

Bitter pine and citrus give way to biscuit malt middle with a nutty earthy finish.

A: Pours a copper color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a nice cap that leaves some good lacing

S: Citrus and pine up front with some sweetness and bready notes from the malt. Lots of lemon and orange

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the citrus notes and some lighter pine and then goes into the malt sweetness. Grainy notes in there as well. Lightly bitter. Finishes with lingering citrus

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. On the dry side

O: A very nice single-hopped IPA. Wasn't sure how cascade would hold up on its own, but it works very well. Definitely worth looking into

Pours a golden yellow with a nice fluffy white head that leaves some lacing but sticks around impressively for the whole session. Aromas and flavors are classic cascade: fresh grapefruit zest, floral bouquets, and a hint of snow-speckled pine trees. A welcome addition to a fantastic Snow Pack.
