dark brown with a tan head. Nice lacing.
Smells very malty. Some of the typical porter smells. Faint hop presence.
Rather smooth. Roasted malts, a slight burnt taste. An interesting hop profile as well, giving it a sort of earthy citrus like taste.

Sierra Nevada's take on the porter is good and leaves nothing to complain about.

Some lacing and decent head retention.

Doesn't taste like much for a porter. Some acrid carbonation in the aftertaste, but traces of grape and chocolate as it warms.

Mouthfeel is too foamy and undercuts the flavor while adding some carbonic acid bite.

Not offensive, but not a great porter.

poured from the bottle into a pint glass

A - Pours an almost opaque almandine dark brown with beautiful highlights. Plenty of carbonation can be seen coming from the bottom the glass and rising to the creamy, two-finger, off-white head. Head stays intact all the way down the glass, laves behind a thick arch and splotches of lacing.

S - A generous dose of freshly backed chocolate-chip cookies with just a hint of earthy hops upon opening the bottle. A bit more hops once in the glass. Very inviting.

T - Chocolate toffee upfront followed a well crafted and balanced body full of chocolate malt, toffee notes, and earthy hops. A little more hop flavor as the beer passes over the back of the tongue, but the chocolate malt keeps up and everything stays balanced. Freshly backed double-chocolate cookie finish.

M - Medium bodied, but the higher level of carbonation gives a substantial creaminess that causes the beer to expand in the mouth.

This porter is pretty damn close to being the perfect session beer. Everything is perfectly balanced, yet complex and delicious enough to leave me contemplating driving up to ABQ this instant to find another. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, yet creamy and the beer never comes off seeming weak. Worthy enough to join the ranks of other great porters such as Black Butte, and Edmund Fitzgerald, yet lighter bodied. This is one to come back to.
