Picked up at my Binny’s as a single.

Appearance – Pours into a tulip with a dark chocolate color that allows some light to shine through when held up to the light. About a finger of slight tan head is achieved with a regular pour that dissipates at a moderate pace leaving nice lacing that coats the glass.

Smell – Lots of roasted malts, grains, caramel, chocolate, molasses, and a hint of coffee.

Taste – A nice roastiness up front that is kissed by a hint of caramel sweetness. It is not overpowering and actually becomes a bit drier at the end from bittersweet cocoa and coffee. As the beer warms a nuttiness comes through as well.

Mouthfeel – Medium to lighter bodied (wish it was a bit thicker), decent carbonation.

Overall – A decent porter. Not my first pick but solid nonetheless.

12oz bottle into snifter.

A: Pours an extremely dark brown color with a huge dark tan head that slowly faded into a thick film leaving a ton of spotty patches of lace down the glass.
S: I get very integrated notes of roasted malts, light chocolate, toasted grains and a hint of nuts/wood.
T: Follows the nose with a dominating roasted grain/malt taste. Toasted nuts and chocolate come through in the finish, and the aftertaste has a touch of char and burnt wood. Very delicious.
M: The carbonation is perfectly balanced between being soft and chewy and light and fluffy. The body is medium-full and the mouthfeel is soft, smooth, and refreshing.
O: Early on in my beer drinking career, before I was reviewing and really got into craft, I bought a case of this beer. I loved it then but I don’t think I’ve had it since, until now. This is a truly underrated porter and beer in general. The drinkability of this is through the roof.

Pours a dark brown almost black color with a off white creamy head and good lacing on the glass. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate, and caramel malts. Taste is very much the same with a forefront caramel sweetness followed by a roasty finish. Well balanced and a good porter.

Pours to a very dark ruby/brown color with a small light brown head. Nose is straight roasted malts and a little chocolate. Taste is more bitter than the aroma would suggest. Roasted coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Medium weight, lively carbonation. Lightly sweet on the finish with big smoke on the aftertaste.

A- pours dark dark brown with a thin tan head.

S- malt, rum, chocolate, brown sugar, raisins.

T- roasted malt, chocolate, cherries, coffee, And toffee.

M- good carbonation and a velvety creamy mouthfeel.

O- I enjoyed this porter. It was a very solid brew with a nice flavor. Although I like this beer I seem to like BB porter much more from what I remember.

A random single procured on a recent trip...

A - Pours a dark ruby red collur, finger of tan head with solid retention and some sporadic lacing.

S - Musty cocoa, hint of espresso, buttered bread and a hint of earthy green hops. A tad mild off the top, but the scents improve as the glass empties.

T - Not as sweet as I was hoping, a more bitter cocoa and raw espresso dominates. Hints of coffee grinds and musty cardboard and muddled amongst some leafy green hop notes.

M - Medium bodied, smooth and a touch of dryness lingers.

O - Well, to say I was mildly disappointment would be an understatement. By no means terrible, it's just a very mild ale compared to what I'm used to from Sierra Nevada. Certainly easy drinking and flavourful, but they could have easily amped it up a notch without offending any of their fans.

Poured a really dark brown 'see-thru' mahogany color from a 12 oz bottle, with ABV clearly printed on the label.
Two finger off-white colored head that took forever to dissipate.
Aroma is extremely malty with lots of sweet chocolate, caramel notes coming through. Hints of bready yeast and grain.
Taste right from the beginning to the finish is on the sweeter side. The maltiness comes through nicely with just hints of bitterness towards the finish. The balance between the sweetness and the slight bitterness is perfect.
Very good mouthfeel and drinkability. This porter has all the makings of a good sessions beer. Lots of lacing all along the insides of the glass.
Overall, this is another winner from Sierra Nevada. Nothing exceptional, but just a good all round porter. Perfect for anyone who is getting into porters or craft beer. Definitely recommended and absolutely worth a try.
