Notes / Commercial Description:
Fuller's Brewery in London has been producing some of the UK's finest ales since the mid-19th century. A: Pours with a light haze, and a copper/orange color. A dense two finger white head forms with good retention and plenty of lace.
S: Plums up front for sure. Dark fruits with toasted and bready malts. Caramel and toffee , which all intermingles with the fruit aromas.
T: Like the nose, plums and dark fruits up front. Sweet malts of caramel/toffee. Toasted malts with a nice baked bread character as well. There is even a peppery kind of spice and a grapefruit bitterness comes out after a while. Which would normally not work for me, but here all is really well balanced/incorporated, and can see how this will develop even more over time.
M/O: A medium to full body. Moderate carbonation, but ultra smooth at the same time. I find this really enjoyable to drink and will be looking for more bottles to drink now and age for later.

I love that they did a version of Vintage Ale with Plums. This is really enjoyable, but maybe not the best it will be. I can see this aging really well. Very well made.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a deep amber. Moderate amount of bubbles and a slight finger of off white head that settles into a thin creamy patch.

Smell: A fruity and fairly sweet aroma with a scent of plums and bready malt. Big scent of plums along with some other fruit hints of apple, raisin, fig, pear, orange, and dates. Malt scent of biscuit, grains, cracker, toffee, and caramel along with yeast. Sweet hints of brown sugar. A pretty solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a fruity and sweet taste with notes of plums and bready malt. Big taste of plums along with other fruit notes of raisin, fig, apple, pear, orange, and dates. Pale malt notes of biscuit, grains, cracker, toffee, and caramel along with some yeast. Sweet taste of brown sugar. A pretty nice taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy and smooth with minimal alcohol heat.

Overall: A pretty good take on an English Old/Strong Ale. Nice mix of fruit notes.

From the 12oz bottle into a mason jar.

Look - Deep burnt orange with a head that stacks half the glass. Density a plenty with an off-white coloration.

Smell - Hops stay relatively light with a big toasty malt presence that really dominates the nose.

Taste - Plums really turn out here and dominate at about a 70/30 ratio against the malt. Touches of sweet grape and even a bit of raisin if you really wanna look for it.

Feel - Smooth and creamy with a high level of carbonation. Swallows sweet and slightly bitter without even a hint of alcohol.

Overall - A very unique and robust beer that is probably my favorite in the pack so far ( Have only drank five others prior to this ). Not quite sure I've ever had w brew like this one. Try it out.

My last bottle from this mixed pack.

A clear copper with a dense, beige head with excellent retention and lacing, this looks solid. The nose is quite excellent, A blend of butterscotch sweetness, burnt toffee, fruity plums, wheat toast, earth. Very harmonious and well-integrated. The palate opens with a blend of burnt sugar bitterness, fruity plum sweetness, some raisin and caramel. There's an earthy hop bitterness and the alcohol adds a pleasing warmth to the palate. The finish is quite excellent - the blend of bitterness and burnt sugar sweetness and tartness is long-lasting and the mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Excellent stuff.

Caramel, hops, malt richness bread and sweet plums. The skin of the fruit and very light brown sugar. Hop spice and floral.

Hazy plummy color. Fat beige head that falls slowly. Pretty clear.

Drinks very breaddy but also with tons of sweet fruit. Body feels at first thick and the finish is very sweet. A touch of alcohol on the palate for bitterness. The American hops centennial and loral lighten the aroma for me.

Drinks slightly less rich than a barleywine and without a big malt complexity . The thick mouthfeel abates as the beer warms. Hops do last and give a clean steady bitterness. Not as complex as some but these plums are a lovely addition . I am not seeing vinous and no chocolate. Does show the dried fruits. Now Fullers ecxpects to put their beer away and Sierra Nevada is concerned with hop appeal. Adding fruit brought those two things together well imo.

Historically isn't the old ale made to be a base beer and one that also goes into a barrel to be aged? Typically it's a style I associate with winter and I think bringing it into summer involved some thought. The secondary malt qualities of the old ale like cocoa and molasses; treacle are replaced with a brisk hop and the caramel malt. The color of it is the sweet blush from the plum. Bittering hops are magnum. That is 40 ibu's on the most malt of 4 beers from the case. The ipa the dipa, the barleywine and this one respectively. Modeled after the English bitter they did show you some hops. This one is the most balanced of all of those. The alcohol is perfectly balanced because in the finish I can taste spice. Fullers yeast shows an apple ester and that is in this beer but broader than it is in their beer. Often when you mass produce something it loses what makes it unique. I think it's safe to say that the successful big brewers are able to master that and keep something. This beer does taste like Fullers.

Had on tap at the Sierra Nevada/ Ocean Odyssey's Beer Camp Across the World tap fest. All beers were incredibly fresh. Huge thanks to Travis for allowing me to do independent quality checks on every beer.
Beer #1 was the Fuller's collab. Very biased as I am a 40 year fan of Fuller's brewing. This beer was right up there. A full rich ale that went down so smoothly and so ripe with the plum enhanced pale maits. Wish I had a sixtel to take home.

The color of the beer was a shade of reddish amber, and the head was relatively small at one finger thick. The aroma was sweet and sour with plums and malt providing nearly equal contribution, and hops acting like a relish. The taste was tart, sweet, and complex, with some aged hops showing in the aftertaste. The overall flavor reminded me a lot of a Belgian Tripel. The feel was sticky and decadent. I liked this quite a bit.

Came a clear copper/brass color with a thinner well sustained head atop.Aromas are a little muted mainly some caramel malts and fruity yeasty esters.Caramel toffee stands out most in the nose with a smattering of herbal/leafy hops showing thru,a backbone of stone fruit thru to the finish.Another of the series that's good but not great, nice to see a style like this being brewed as part of the series though.

A hazy amber color with a tiny off-white head. The head dissipated quickly, and there was no lacing.
Nice aroma of sweet fruit and caramel.
Taste followed the nose: plums and caramel'
A little too sweet for me.

Great light brown to dark copper color with a half inch of frothy beige head. I'm smelling dark bready malts and sweet plum. The taste is very much dark bready malts, but there's a little sweetness from the plums that round it out nicely and give it more dimension. The mouth is chewy and sticky from the heavy malt presence.
