Notes / Commercial Description:
In honor of Beer Camp, our friends at New Zealand's Garage Project brewery wanted to carry the camping theme straight to the flavor of our beer. Featuring a unique malt smoked over manuka wood, rare manuka honey and vanilla beans, this robust porter has sweet notes reminiscent of marshmallows toasted over a campfire.

Pours a somewhat light brown in color with good clarity into a pint glass. Nice half inch of tan foam sits atop the glass. Light hints of roasted malts and some smoke and vanilla give a sense of sweetness.

Taste is smooth with more faint vanilla and some dark malts though not much which coincides with the light color. Somewhat sweet and viscous but not unexpected at 7.7% which hides itself fairly well. Overall fairly ho hum of a porter. Not much body but nuanced in a sense

Poured into a 16 oz snifter at near room temperature bottled on 4/19/17. Pours a dark mahogany with a fairly large 2 inch khaki head that leaves thin wisps of glass all over the place.

Smell is vanilla bean, hints of smoke and leather, butterscotch, dark chocolate, molasses, and coffee grounds.

Taste follows vanilla starts the party, butterscotch, dark chocolate, some smoke, molasses, and coffee.

Mouthfeel is a little bigger than medium and I wish it was bigger, mild carbonation, not overly dry, and excellent drinkability for 7.7%ABV and for me drinks a little bigger than its ABV.

Overall I really like this beer and wish I had another bottle. I really think this year's 12 pack has been excellent 6 bottles in.

Pours clear deep reddish brown with an eggshell head that blankets the surface and laces well. Smells of earth, ash, and roasted nuts. Taste is complex. Starts with some vanilla, some nuttiness, wood, cola, and then all of a sudden the combination resembles s'mores. Marshmallow, chocolate, and graham cracker crust, though subtle us definitely there. Feel is a but thin bodied and does have a smokey/woody bitterness to finish it off. Overall, I would love to enjoy a six pack of this campside in Yosemite or under the desert star studded night sky. It's unique enough to be interesting yet comfortabley familiar. Cheers!

Poured a dark brown with a little garnet around the edges. No head to speak of.
Smoky aroma, vanilla, and sweetness.
Vanilla came through more in the taste, still some smoke, still on the sweet side.
Nice enough.

Dark brown to light black in color with little light seeping through. There's a half inch of creamy and densely packed beige head. The aroma is of smoked malt and honey. I'm tasting the smoked malt, honey, vanilla, and more smoked malt at the back of the palate. This is a very busy beer and it's a bit too busy. The mouth is moderately smoked, lightly oily, and dry.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a dark blackish brown. Moderate amount of bubbles and about a finger of off white head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A roasty and sweet dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate, honey, and vanilla. Dark roasted malt with a scent of chocolate, coffee, toast, smoke, biscuit, caramel, toffee, grains, and nuts with some yeast. Sweet scent of vanilla and honey. Hints of earthy hops. A pretty good aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a roasty and sweet dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, honey, and vanilla. Dark roasted malt with notes of chocolate, coffee, toast, biscuit, smoke, toffee, caramel, grains, and nuts along with yeast. Sweet taste of vanilla and honey. Some earthy hop bitterness. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, silky, and very smooth.

Overall: A very good twist on a Porter. Good roasty dark malt notes with a nice sweet kick of vanilla and honey.

Appearance - Pours near black with a ruddy, auburn-brown tint. The head is light tan and peaks at a finger's width and displays good retention beofre peeling back to a thin consistent layer of surface suds. Strong lacing, wtih broken lines and spotting strewn about the glass.

Smell - An expected but not disappointing aroma; prevalent notes of chocolate, honey, vanilla and some roasted malt.

Taste - Follows the nose. Milk chocolate, roast and honey sweetness upfront. Hints of vanilla. As the flavors meld into the finish, it becomes a harmonious flavor combination that brings to mind a gooey s'mores dessert had at the campfire shortly after dinner.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low, slightly tingly carbonation. Silky, slightly creamy texture drinks easy with a somewhat dry finish.

Overall - It's pretty tasty, and you definitely get that 'campfire smores' vibe; it's one of the few that have gotten it right. This would work amazingly during the fall or early winter months. SN would be wise to revisit it at that time. It's the best of this year's Beer Camp, IMO.
