Beer Camp Across The World: Dry-Hopped Berliner-Style WeisseBeer Camp Across The World: Dry-Hopped Berliner-Style Weisse
Notes: Texas' Saint Arnold Brewery takes a broad view of beer styles, mastering everything from traditional German-inspired recipes to big experimental creations. Together, we teamed up to brew this dry-hopped Berliner-Style Weisse. Featuring a fruit-forward hop character backed up by a snap of mild tartness, it boasts a flavor that's complex, compelling and very drinkable.

Hazy pale straw yellow with two-and-a-half fingers of dense white head that leave thick rings of lacing.

Tart yeasty aroma with flashes of lemon and lightly floral hops. Maybe some other light citrus, soap and biscuit malt behind.

Bigger tasting than I expected. There's almost a creaminess to the feel and the taste alike. Like a lemon-orange creamsicle with fresh-cut grass (hops) thrown in; one made with real fruit so it's more tart than sweet.

This is more citrusy and even slightly more tart than most Berliners I've had, and the grassy dry-hopping is something else entirely. It's almost got a weedy quality to it, which plays off the lemon in a really interesting way.

Not traditional by any stretch of the imagination, but a very fun beer to try. Great addition to the sampler. Bottled 4/18/17.

Here comes another one of my fave beers from the Beer Camp 12 pack of 2017. Pours a slightly hazy golden colored beer, nice use of wheat and its particulate to make a visually pleasing beer with 2/3" white head. Aroma smacks of tart wheat, mild dry hopping and an almost berry like yeast contribution. Complex and straightforward at the same time.

Taste is a nice dry, tart, light bodied, well carbonated beer. Just the right amount of levity in the mouthfeel. Traditional tartness, this isn't a lactic sour wild ale masquerading as a traditional style. They went right into the berliner wheelhouse and came out with something close to tradition but with a little American spike on it. The dry hopping is subtle and far from overpowering. They ended up with a real good beer here.

L: Slightly hazy straw color with a small fizzy head.

S: Tart citrus.

T: Very lemony, including lemon-like sourness. Some wheat after the tartness subsides. Only subtle hints of hops.

F: Refreshing and light bodied. Dry finish.

O: This is my first taste of the Beer Camp Across the World pack, and so far so good. I'm sure sours aren't for everyone, but I like them and this one is really good. I might buy a few of these every summer if it was available by itself.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a speiglau tulip glass.

Look is a hazy golden yellow with a thin white head.

Aroma is a funky horse blanket, not much of the dry hopping notable.

Taste is like a saison/ Berliner weisse blend. Funky and slightly sour.

Pretty good on a hot night.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a mildly murky straw color with a small white head. The aroma is simple sour citrus. The taste is bitter lemon with some mild hops tossed in.

Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a tumbler. Hazy golden yellow colored pour, with a substantial white and fairly long-lasting head. Aromas and flavors come alive at cellar temperature. Yeast funk, light malt, and lemony sourness dominate the profiles. Light in body, crisp finish, and just a hint of lingering tartness. This would be a great picnic beer, as refreshing and easy drinking as lemonade. Nicely done!

L: Hazy straw with a small white foamy head. Medium-poor retention, but a thin ring remains. No lacing.

S: Huge tartness and tropical fruit. Pineapple, white peach, passion fruit, catty dankness, lemon, grass, cracker, white grape.

T: Big tartness upfront with loads of tropical fruit. Green apple skin, lemon juice, passion fruit, white peach skin, underripe pineapple, grassiness. Slight crackery and grainy malt presence. Finishes puckering and lightly dry.

F: Medium-light, not quite watery, but pretty thin. Nice ample carbonation makes it flow smoothly though. It's crushable. Slight wheat creaminess.

O: An extremely good dry-hopped sour! The tartness and the hop flavors are magnificent. I could drink this forever.

Mixed fruity and herbal hop character with sour fruit of the base style. I think the herbal is a little bigger than the fruit, which takes a little away. Classic standard look. Quite tart with the fruit following but never superseding the tartness. There is hops in the flavor too. Again more herbal than fruit (if there is any fruit hops taste I'm not finding it). Not quite astringent but working toward towards it. Still thirst quenching but just tart enough to slow down the drinking. Nicely carbonated with a bubble fullness and some prickliness with the tart flavor.
Not in love with the herbal hop character, which knocks the score down a bit. But I'm digging the base beer.

L-Glowing gold...

S-More hop aroma than sour....citrus...pink grapefruit...lemons, limes

T-Sour notes enter here but don't overwhelm. Puckery finish like lemons and limes...

F-Medium bodied....nice tartness on the finish but also a decent base..

O-Not an expert on this style but this is pretty solid as far as I can tell.
