Notes: Bavaria's Ayinger are legends in the brewing industry, known for their love and perfection of classic German beer styles. Playing off their background, we came together to create this dark twist on the Bavarian-style wheat beer. This beer features layers of wheat malt flavor and was handled through traditional open fermenters to highlight Ayinger's famous Hefeweizen yeast character.

Cloudy brown leather color with a massive, long-lasting, airy tan head. Modest lacing.

Pleasant aroma of wheat bread, yeast, cloves and light banana.

Taste follows the nose with the banana kicked up a bit. Distant bubblegum and distant caramel also added to the mix. Not really a dry aftertaste, but maybe a yeasty one.

Medium bodied with a relatively still feel.

A fun change of pace from the usual hefeweizen. Still keeping my fingers crossed Ayinger and SN will partner on an Oktoberfest. 4/25/17 bottling date.

Brown or mahogany with great carbonation when I rock the glass, and a finger of khaki foam that leaves a mild lacing. The aroma is wheaty, yeasty, banana, cloves, and spice. The flavor is strong on banana, wheat, and spices. Very nice feel with above average carbonation, very dry on the finish, and a fairly full feel for a 5.7% brew. A pleasure to drink this one.

Beer Camp 2017 Dunkel Weisse has a very thick, creamy, beige head, a hazy, copper-brown appearance, with fierce bubble streams, haze, and minimal lacing. This beer becomes milky-gray, following the "swish & pour". Aroma is of syrupy, honey-like brown bread crust (think Roman Meal bread in 1975). Taste is of spiced, brown holiday bread, syrup, white pepper, banana, and a bit of coriander. Mouthfeel is light to mediu, and Dunkel Weisse finishes crisp and highly drinkable.

This one pours a clear bright orange, with a small head, and good lacing down the glass.

This smells lightly bready on the nose, with some light banana- this is strangely reticent. I expected a bolder aroma from this.

Once we get to taste, we get the same sort of thing- banana and breadiness, sort of a dark brown breadiness, given the style. There's some light wheat and a hint of apricot. This tastes very good, but it's just strangely muted. This is not up to the grand loftiness that either brewery is capable of reaching.

This has a light body, with a definite crispness to it, and a good level of carbonation.

This is ultimately disappointing, considering it's Ayinger and Sierra Nevada. It could have been so much more. Taking aside the lofty expectations, it definitely tasted good and went down nicely. It's just not what I was hoping for.

Collaboration with Ayinger in Bavaria. I believe it is a dark wheat. It pours a beautiful hazy copper color, with such a paper white head, a beautiful contrast. Nose is malty and wheaty, pretty mild smell. This is not my style of choice but I gotta believe that if it is then this flavor just about nails it. It is malty and slightly caramelly with a strong banana/apple undertone. Sweet and smooth it is every bit an easy drinking beer that could be enjoyed by just about anyone. Strikes me as a great example of classic German beer from the little exposure I've had. Definitely a beer born of a beer culture. You could drink this stuff all day in any weather.

Dark brown with a light brown head. Light sweet malts give way to clove, banana, bubble gum, toast, and wheat. Taste integrates the subtle caramel. Just a good all around DW. Feel continues this theme, well balanced, slightly lighter, and smooth.

This was definitely one of the best beers in the Beer Camp Around the World pack. Unlike some of the other beers in the box, they didn't try to reinvent the bottle. Classic German beer style with a classic German brewery. Highly drinkable with great notes of caramel, yeast, and traditional hops. Smelled right, tasted right, and didn't get too sweet. Well done SN.
