Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.20%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
"We just love brewing hoppy beers" is the way Oregon's IPA masters at Boneyard Beer kicked off our collaboration talks. Well, as it turns out, we do, too, so we went all out on this intensely hop-heavy West Coast-style Double IPA. It's bright golden, crisp and brimming with intense citrus and herbal hop flavor, just how we like 'em.

Smell is sweet with floral honey. Taste has a zing to it with citrusy bitterness. The bitterness lingers on the tongue. Cloudy. Wonderful. I wish this was always available.

Fruity, hot, and bitter. Color is a clear golden amber, and poured in the Affligem chalice a nice foam fluffs up. Massively aromatic with melon and a hint of funk. Very sharply carbonated with alcohol pickling the tongue.

Quite sweet with malt, but light and smooth. Flavors of orange peel with pineapple, followed by honeydew melon. Another one of those "hop liqueur" concoctions. Quite sippable, overall, but it's an aggressive drink. That fruit 'n' funk aroma lasts to the end. From the 16 oz can in the 2017 mixed Beer Camp case.

Chill hazed golden colored ale with a medium sized white colored head.

Smells strongly of tropical fruit. Big scent of crushed pineapple. Lesser scent of passion fruit and plums. Smells a bit syrupy like a tropical drink in a Tiki club. Faint coconut and rum. This smells distinctly like a Maitai.

Starts out bittersweet and fruity with some burned sugar and caramel, like barbecued pineapple slices. Drys out and becomes a bit woody as you drink it. As the sweetness dissipates melon flavor appears. In the end it tastes like a tropical Barleywine.

Mouthfeel is thick.

Overall a tasty DIPA.

Completely clear, golden in color with a tall white, frothy head. The aroma is spicy, piney, and has notable malt underneath. Fresh smelling. The taste is bitter at the foretaste, with a serious sweetness that creeps in after a few sips. The ABV is notable and the beer is satisfying, full, and interesting.

A: Bright yellow in color with a little bit of a haze, as well as a very plentiful light tan head.

S: Huge tropical and citrus fruit hits with a hint of herbal and earthy in the finish. A touch of caramel as well.

T: Grapefruit and orange with a hint of booze in the finish. Also just the slightest touch of onion... Simcoe?

M: Medium light in body, with fairly aggressive carbonation, and a dry finish. Long lingering hop bitterness.

O: Not bad.. I was expecting a little more, but still pretty solid.

This was yet another offering from this year's Beer Camp Pack, and one of the better ones of the bunch. Packaged on 4/26, this tasted as fresh as could be while packing a full, bright, and robust flavor that was easily enjoyable and reminiscent of the old-school Sierra Nevada brews that got me into this whole craft beer thing a long time ago. Once in a while, it's nice to go back!

Fun pour to this as the beer was golden, bright, and topped off with plenty of white, fluffy head that offset the liquid quite nicely. Enough clumps of lacing was left behind on the back side of my pint glass as I sipped this and let the flavors set in. Citrus pith, floral and earthy hops, and pepper could be found in the muted nose with plenty of the latter to be found in the taste as well. A deep orange undertone set in under the grains of paradise, herbal tea, and minty mouthfeel that characterized this. Quite complex and heavy, the subtle presence of melon and mango was enough to keep me wanting more while offering enough flavor to leave me pleased. At the same time, this was an tough beer to pinpoint because of the uniqueness factor...

Thankfully, the alcohol was understated as I could only feel a mild warming effect once I finished this off. The herbal side of this certainly came through once I finished it off, as there was a lingering "buzz" and aftertaste on my teeth and palate. Nearly an ESB in feel, this was too understated and complex to be a true American Double/Imperial IPA. Had this been more sticky, sappy, and oily, it would have been a true West Coast-style offering but instead, we're left with something more unique and category-straddling...which was all for the better, when all was said and done!

Picked up as part of the world camp 12 pack 7-1-17 at TW Arrowhead for an average cost of 2.08. Canned on 4-26-17.

Beer poured golden orange with a nice white head with the initial pour.

Nose is fresh citrus and mango, very nice.

Taste initially was herbal hops - peppery, along with grapefruit. Do get a touch of melon and mango in the middle. Finish is grapefruit rind and a bit of pine.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and very smooth.

Overall a tasty brew that I would recommend!
