Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.20%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
"We just love brewing hoppy beers" is the way Oregon's IPA masters at Boneyard Beer kicked off our collaboration talks. Well, as it turns out, we do, too, so we went all out on this intensely hop-heavy West Coast-style Double IPA. It's bright golden, crisp and brimming with intense citrus and herbal hop flavor, just how we like 'em.

Canned on date of 04/26/17

Appearance - Pours crystal clear and bright golden orange in color with an off-white, two-finger width head. Fair retention, resulting in a thin, broken layer of surface suds and a fair ring around the edge of the glass.

Smell - Strong aroma, picked up from a foot or more away as soon as the the can was cracked. Orange, pineapple, grapefruit, black pepper spice, floral quality and just a hint of pine. Faint bready sweetness.

Taste - Follows the nose. Prominent citrus notes that hit on orange and grapefruit with lesser pineapple zing. Hints of papaya and passionfruit. Mid-taste brings a bit of spice and pine. Bready malts with a touch of caramel sweetness. Finish is grapefruit pith and just a touch more pine, then lingering pineapple in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium-to-full in body with moderate carbonation. Drinks well enough before a bone dry finish. Not exactly the smoothest DIPA on the block.

Overall - Easily the best of the pack thus far, this one being my 5th of the 12. Nice punch of citrus, spice and tropical fruit hoppiness. If it were only a smoother drinker, it'd be a World Class effort.

The better of the 2 big name IPA collabs in this year's pack, the hops here snap better, giving pungent herbs + citrus, lots of hop oils, and a well attenuated, just enough malt to prop it all up body. A satisfying hop bomb.

Chill hazed golden colored ale with a medium sized white colored head.

Smells strongly of tropical fruit. Big scent of crushed pineapple. Lesser scent of passion fruit and plums. Smells a bit syrupy like a tropical drink in a Tiki club. Faint coconut and rum. This smells distinctly like a Maitai.

Starts out bittersweet and fruity with some burned sugar and caramel, like barbecued pineapple slices. Drys out and becomes a bit woody as you drink it. As the sweetness dissipates melon flavor appears. In the end it tastes like a tropical Barleywine.

Mouthfeel is thick.

Overall a tasty DIPA.

Came a slight chill hazed medium golden with a full one finger white head atop.Somewhat sweet and sugary in the nose with a big punch of grapefruit hops, par for the style course.Resinous and fruity with grapefruit-like hops hitting upfront that melding into a sticky sweet quality in the back end. It's good but not great, more old school with it's big sharp grapefruit and resin qualities not like the new east coast style...in my opinion.

A bright gold color with a thick white head. There was a good deal of lace.
Aroma of citrus and pine.
The taste followed the nose. Grapefruit up front, with a piney finish.
Medium-bodied.

04/26/17 16 oz. can consumed on 6/11/17 in belgian tulip glass.

Pours a light golden body with tall fine bubbly white head - diminishes rather quickly. Very piney aroma, traces of citrus, sweet caramelly malts in the back. Tastes similar to smell with a touch of bitter fruitiness and tons of pine; both these notes linger for days. The mouthfeel really is well executed. Plenty of fine carbonation rising in the glass and bubbles on the tongue. Also the hop oils are well balanced, not overwhelming nor lacking.

Enjoyable beer with a well executed pineyness, bitterness, and hint of sweetness but not as complex as I really appreciate in a DIPA.

Light copper to dark golden hued with an inch of densely packed, creamy dishwater off white on top. After a few minutes i'm left with a fingernail and some light lacing. The aroma is a decadent blend of citrus and pine along with some light malt. The taste is a bit more reserved on the hops than the nose implied. Densely resinous pine leads the way along with very light crackery malt at the back of the palate. The mouth is lightly sticky, dry, and dense.

Poured from a 16 oz. can into an IPA glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear golden orange. Lots of rising bubbles and a big two finger white head that slowly settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A juicy and piney hop forward aroma with a scent of tropical fruit and pine. Citrus hop scent of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, tangerine, and passion fruit along with pineapple. Earthy hop scent of pine resin and grass. Pale malt hints of caramel, grains, and cracker along with yeast. A pretty good juicy aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a juicy and earthy hop driven taste with notes of tropical fruit and pine. Upfront citrus hop notes of orange peel, grapefruit, tangerine, mango, and passion fruit along with some pineapple. Earthy hop notes of pine resin and grass. Pale malt notes of caramel, grains, and cracker along with some yeast and honey sweetness. A very nice taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Juicy, oily, and drying.

Overall: A pretty good West Coast IPA. Nice tropical fruit and pine hop notes.
