Rich golden beer topped with a bright white, pillowy head that lasts forever. Just a touch of haziness to the beer. The aroma is very fruity, with strong lemon scents and some malt sweetness. The taste is very sharp, more pale ale than a typical wheat-weizen style. Strong lemon and pepper flavors, with a touch a husky malt in the background. The mouthfeel is rather full compared to the light flavors, and expands a bit on the tongue. A very nice combination. This beer is very refreshing, and could be drank as a session beer easily. I was expecting more of a weizen style when I opened this beer, but was pleasantly surprised by the wheat ale I discovered. A solid offering from Sierra Nevada.

Just had another one of these, and I noticed some yeast sediment caked on the bottom of the bottle. So I swirled around some beer vigorously and poured it into the glass. The result is a very hazy amber beer that has some bredines to the aroma and less sharpness in the flavor. The flavor was altered enough that I felt I should alter my review. The above ratings reflect the beer with the suspended yeast. It is a better beer this way, but just slightly. It was good without the yeast, just a little harsh on the flavor. Much more balance in the flavor profile now.

When I first came across this beer I was suprised to see that Sierra Nevada made a wheat. The first thing I thought was yeah it has to be different. This unfiltered bottle conditioned wheat beer pours with a magnificant white head, and has a deep golden hazy hue. The aroma is filled with a hint of hops, and citrusy undertones. However, the yeast that pours in almost overbears the other aromas in this beer. A long lasting head that leaves a nice heavy lace, as the glass empties. Overall, the taste wasn't what I was expecting. This beer just doesn't work for me. It's not bad, but I cannot stand behind this American version of a great style. A nice carbonation from the bottle conditioning, but overall the flavors don't seem to go well at all. The bread taste is to thick and overbearing for this beer to be truly enjoyable. Not a beer I will go after again.

Quite possibly the benchmark by which all American wheat beers should be measured. It pours a surprisingly clear golden body until the yeast swirl is added, clouding it and adding an orange-ish cast. The short and creamy bright white head collapses shortly but is easily revived with a simple swirl of the glass. Left unattended to, it still maintains a thin creamy collar and leaves some spotty lace throughout the glass. The nose expresses a distinct wheat character with some mild fruitiness and softly citrusy Cascade hops. The body is light and refreshing, enhanced by a spritzy, very fine-bubbled carbonation from bottle conditioning. The flavor displays a mildy tart (low pH) and lightly sweet and bready wheat malt that's backed by a firm bitterness and infused with a gently citrusy hop flavor that appears quite lemony. The finish is dry with a dull lingering bitterness and some mouth-coating astringency. Refreshing. Tasty. Very drinkable.

I was a little alarmed, at first, when this “unfiltered” wheat was resting in my glass, where’s the cloudiness, suspended yeast? The head was white; it reached a good inch before fading to lace. The nose was wheaty with hints of slightly toasted malt, citrus, and maybe some floral hops. The flavors offered were enjoyable, not overly noteworthy though, the citrus, floral, toasted malt combination was enjoyable. This American Wheat Beer has considerable mouthfeel (well textured).

Overall SN’s Wheat Beer is enjoyable, simple, and refreshing. Definitely something I’d drink again.

Pours a cloudy orange-straw color with a thick white head. Faint malt and citrus aromas. Feels heavy in the mouth with flavors of wheat and yeast. The finish was a bit tart. An average American wheat beer. Probably not something I’ll buy again anytime soon as there are many similar beers that are superior to this one.

SN's wheat offering pours a cloudy yellow with a rocky white head, which soon dissipates. Notes of lemon peel, spices and west coast hops are present in the nose. Taste is similar, with more focus on the wheat and lemon peel. Mouthfeel is fairly carbonated and the beer finishes rather clean. Easy to drink, this would be a good summertime quencher. It certainly has more character than the SN Summerfest, and I like the fact that this beer is unfiltered.

Cloudy yellow with a pure white sticky head. Subtle aroma of hops, grain, and a little banana. Refreshing taste of sweet grainy malt and crisp hops. Hops are a bit lemon-like in the middle of the palate. Well balanced and light bodied with a bitter citrus finish. A bit light and lemony for my taste, but still a good refreshing beer. Seems like it should be a summer seasonal.

Lightly "Chill Hazed", golden in color, the head is white, frothy, long lasting and the lace in sheets. Nose is earthy, sweet, malt, clean and crisp. Front is malt sweet, the top light, the finish is dry, moderately carbonated, lightly hopped and a drinkable but not a great beer. Ranks #907 on my current 1000 beer masterlist.

Medium golden in color with the normal wheat haze. There is some spiciness to the flavor, but, the wheat flavor in this beer is not over powering. A very good wheat beer for any time during the year. Introduce this beer to your friends never have had a wheat! This would be a good starter.

Golden yellow, cloudy/hazy appearance. Good head retention. Nose is fruity and slightly citrusy, but more akin to pineapple than, say, lemon. There is a fresh, subtle aroma that can best be described as having a "sea air" quality. Good, silky smooth mouthfeel. Exhibits a very good balance of hops and malt; one of the greatest balances of these two elements I have tasted. A very drinkable beer with the soft malt taste of a wheat balanced with the cleanness of the hops typical of this brewery though by no means as dry as most Sierra brews. This wheat beer is more American than Bavarian in its shying away from the richer banana/clove notes and its reliance rather on a clean and drinkable balance of soft malt and crisp hops. A nice, mellow summer refresher from Sierra.

Hazy medium gold color with a nice off white cloudtop head that retains fairly well, decent lace. Aroma of malt with strong botanical notes and some spiciness. Flavor begins with sweet malts, hops assert themselves towards the middle of the taste, finishes with citrus notes and mild bitterness in the aftertaste. A refreshing and very drinkable beer.

Slightly cloudy golden color. Moderate white head that dissipated quickly. Minimal carbonation and a citrusy/flowery sweet aroma. The flavor was lemony citrus. There was longlasting flavor and full mouthfeel. The difference between the wheat beer and German style hefeweizen eludes me. I prefer the German hefeweizens to this, but not a bad beer.

Sierra Nevada Wheat Beer pours a light hazy but still transparent yellow from a 12oz brown bottle.
Head forms nicely and dissolves to a thin cap with thin ring around the glass.

Nose is wheat with floral hops and palate is a thin carbonated wheat with floral hops.

Sierra Nevada has a number of top notch brews in its stable, sadly their unfiltered wheat Beer is not one of them. While not unpleasant, there is no umph to this wheat Beer... no hutzpah.

Slightly chalky, golden body. Plenty of carbonation visible. SN Wheat sports a thick, creamy white head that has excellent retention, and leaves plenty of lace on the glass. Nice aroma of mild wheat malt and a bit of lemon blend with some hop spiciness. Refreshing brew. Fairly light wheat flavor with lemon dominates the taste. Some hops, mainly noticeable in the slightly bitter finish. Carbonation gives it a slightly rough feel, but leaves a slightly oily feel afterwards. Overall, this is a great brew for these dog-days of summer. I wonder why they brew Summertime? I guess I'll have to try it to find out!

Wheat malt and citrus (lemon) nose. Golden color with a nice white lasting head. Very, Very clear for an unfiltered beer. Smooth malted wheat taste with a thurst quenching slightly bitter (hop)/lemon/tart finish. Nice full mouth for a wheat. Slides down, nice and easy. Very clean tasting. I love this as a summer selection.

Not as cloudy as I expected, considering that it is unfiltered; pale golden coloring. Hoppier than other summer wheats, and gets less drinkable as it warms (i.e. don't bring it out in the sun for very long, as I did). Solid, but I didn't think it was outstanding.

This is a very distinct wheat beer. Like other SN brews this one is hopped to the limit of the style. The spicyness of the hops is a refreshing change from the sweet yeasty flavor of most good wheat beers.

Nice pale straw color with a nice fluffy white head that stays around well. Smell is of spicy hops. Wheat shows up on the tongue first followed by a nice yeasty taste which fades into a nice subtle hoppy flavor. Very crisp and refreshing which makes the beer highly drinkable. A very nice summer brew, will taste great cooling me off on a hot day.

Nice foamy head, but the big streaming bubbles make it look a little like a golden-beer colored soda. Starts off bitter, but then ends up a little biscuity. Towards the end when it warmed up I noticed a slight chemical taste that I didn't really like. Not sure what it was. This seemed a little bitter for my tasted in a wheat beer. That and it's really hard to be impressed by a filtered wheat beer in my opinion.

Yellow in color w/ a very slight haze. Topped w/ a dense well - retained head. Knock SNPA down a couple degrees lovibond and you'll have this one. A bit of wheat tartness and a touch of grassy, herbal Spalt hop nose, but not much at all aroma-wise. Light bodied w/ a an agreeable mouthfeel. The hop bitterness is above the norm for style and the subtle noble hop flavor adds to the drinkability. The finish is a touch tart w/ mild grainy notes. It's certainly the least impressive of Sierra's brews, but there are more insipid "wheat" beers out there.

nice big white foamy head, that stayed for a while. Easy floral smell, some yeast, but alot of florals as well. Not as as much yeast or doughy as other wheats. Alot of hops noticable for a wheat beer. I was hoping for a bigger yeast taste. Very balanced and very easy to drink. Like all Sierra Nevada beers, very enjoyable. Good enough to drink another one.

The wheat really comes through in this brew. Also sticking to Sierra Nevada tradition, there is a strong hops presense as well. Nothing much happening on my nose, very faint leafy hops scent. A golden amber cloud in my glass. Expected more from Sierra Nevada. A bit bitey at start finishing soft. Enjoyable.

American (weak) wheat beers in general don't offer enough of anything to make them worthwhile IMHO. This one unfortunately is no exception.

Presentation: 12oz short brown twist cap bottle, red label. Its being unfiltered is touted throughout the labeling.

Appearance: Thick, sticky, clumpy, rocky white head that reduces to a creamy white lace. Cloudy (due to its being unfiltered) pale/straw in colour.

Smell: Herbal, slightly spicy hop aroma.

Taste: This is a smooth beer. The malt is rich with mouthfeel and chewiness, while the hop flavour is well balanced, starting with a crispness which is aided by the wheat -- going a bit lemony towards the end. Finishes clean and refreshing.

Notes: Without a doubt, one of the best American Wheat Beers available. 4.4% abv.
