A unique and playful take on an often-monotonous style. Hop forward, with a nice chocolatey balance provided by the well roasted malts. Solid mouthfeel, but not too heavy. Slightly fruity and astringent finish. Still can't say I'm the *biggest* fan, but good nonetheless.

Poured into a Schlafly tulip glass. Pours dark brown with a thick tan head that leaves really nice lacing. Taste is mild and very smooth, with light to medium feel. I would definitely drink this again and could drink a few.

Quite a refreshing new vision of the Old World Stout. So robust, fresh and hearty. It has a "New Shire" vibe, that this humble California Hobbit adores!

First beer I've rated with 5s. This stout is amazing.

Aroma: Light coffee, barley.
Appearance: Light black. Medium white head.
Taste: toasted malt, coffee.
Feel: a tad thin for a stout."

12oz bottle poured into a teku glass.

Incredible stout and unfortunately way overlooked by the deep thinker's BA. It's very smooth to sip on this, fairly drinkable.

The bad reputation this beer seems to have is clearly unjustified.

From a nine month old bottle (I'm not even worried).

Look: Pours a mahogany brown hue with a soft, frothy, two finger, burnt cream colored head. Excellent lacing with good head retention.

Aroma: Toasted malt, grapes, chocolate and sugar cookies.

Taste: Balanced, but leaning towards the bittersweet side with moderate notes of milky black chocolate, coffee and italian praline cookies with dry, resinous, charred and woody undertones. Notes of caramel and dried raisins in the background. Really straightforward, but so delicious.

Feel: Full bodied with low effervescence. Decadent and rich, yet crisp and balanced. Bittersweet.

Overall Comments: Pretty damn tasty. Rich bittersweet chocolate flavors with a dry, woody, fruity and hoppy aftertaste. Dark, full bodied, malty, bitter flavorful, thirst quenching... Really excellent stuff. Ages extremely well, even this far out into the beer's shelf life, the malt bill still hasn't overpowered the hops.
