Style: Märzen / Oktoberfest

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.10%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Each year, we partner with a different German brewer to explore the roots of Germany’s famous Oktoberfest beers. This year, we’re collaborating with Germany’s Brauhaus Miltenberger, whose approach to the classic style we’ve long admired. The result is a festival beer true to their style—deep golden in color with deceptively rich malt flavor and balanced by traditional German-grown whole-cone hops.

Taste: complex, refined, crisp, hint of sweet honey and floral hops, dry almost Champagne mouthfeel. Mild malt and fruit, herbal nose. Amber, clear, with refined head, with multi rings of lace. Medium body. Very drinkable and would pair well with many dishes. 30 IBUs

Sadly my least favorite of the SN Okto collabs, though my sense is this is as much due to my particular (and probably even shifting) palate, which doesn't much enjoy sweet, malty beer. To me, this just had too much of that characteristic. Copper color, quickly receding bubbly head. Well attenuated body, maybe a bit metallic, echoes of candy corn, though there's a punch of hops in there too. It's a discordant combination, tbh. Hey, I'm in the minority on this one, and SN is as reliable as they come, so by all means give this a shot. For me, though, this year's was a miss.

Appearance - reddish golden body with white head

Smell - caramel malts and a bit of honey

Taste - nice flavors of malts, caramel, slight bit of honey, grassy in the finish

Mouthfeel - medium bodied, medium carbonation, slight caramel sweetness upfront, slight hop bitterness and grassy on the finish

Overall - nice iteration of a Marzen, I'm enjoying these collaborations that SN does each year. Looking forward to the next one.

Price Point - $7.99/ 6 pack 12 oz bottles

Pours a crisp and clear bright golden yellow.

Sweet toasted malt is tempting with a noticeable caramel sweetness and some grassy noble hop aromas.

Crisp and sweet biscuit and toast like sweetness with a handsome dash of noble hops.

Light-bodied, medium carbonation, crisp, clean, crushable.

Overall, not quite the best Marzen I've ever had but a very crushable and easy drinking one at that!

Fall has arrived and I'm ready for some Marzen/Oktoberfest. I have liked most of Sierra Nevada's collaborations, and I consider this one a success too.
It pours a crystal clear amber copper color with visible carbonation. A fingernail length foamy white head displays good retention.
In the nose there is a nice bouquet of toasted malt aromas; bread crusts, biscuits, and cereal grainy sweetness. There are also some earthy tones such as hay and light funk. Granted, the latter not appropriate for the style, but it was minimal enough not to detract.
In the mouth the grains come across as smooth, slightly sweet and with a silky finish. There is a mild hops bitterness that increases in the aftertaste at a balanced and gradual pace. Medium bodied, easy to drink and yet hearty at the same time. The flavors are bready, creamy malt, modest pine bite, and, interestingly enough, a mild citrus lemon and grapefruit pith that is refreshing. In addition, there is a moderate spice and light touch of alcohol that is at times evident in the finish.
Overall I thought this was a well crafted brew with a rich malt base and dynamic elements. I think it is one of the better Oktoberfests out there.
