Oktoberfest - Brauhaus Miltenberger CollaborationOktoberfest - Brauhaus Miltenberger Collaboration
Notes: Each year, we partner with a different German brewer to explore the roots of Germany’s famous Oktoberfest beers. This year, we’re collaborating with Germany’s Brauhaus Miltenberger, whose approach to the classic style we’ve long admired. The result is a festival beer true to their style—deep golden in color with deceptively rich malt flavor and balanced by traditional German-grown whole-cone hops.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours orange red with a small white head. Smells of dark roasted grain, similar to other Oktoberfest beers. Tastes of sweet grain with slight fruitiness. Beer is light bodied and very easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, an a good beer.

This pours a pleasing caramel amber color. Bready caramel malt aroma matched on the palate with a sticky hop kiss. Crisp and smooth. Sharp finish surprises. I thought this was excellent.

So far, the best of Sierra Nevada's collaboration Oktoberfests in my opinion, and they have all been outstanding. This is an increidble exaple of this style.

Gold, big white head slowly shrinks, some wisps and lace.

Aroma is herbal hops, complex, with underlying bready maltiness.

Taste is light malty-bready sweetness, a touch raisiny but lean with complex herbal hop bitterness that just dominates.

Feel is zesty, lively, and engaging.

Incredibly drinkable, balanced, characterful.

I had this stashed away and tried it after having the recent release poured chilled in a pilsner glass

the color is golden honey amber with light off white head
the smell has a lot of malt with light toasted grain and nuttiness with a dried fruit sweetness in the smell with woody hop scent.
The mouthfeel is great, smooth as velvet with a light hop spice and lager yeast textures with carbonation substantial and mostly dry finish
The flavor is malt with bready quality and lightly fruity yeast with slightly herbal hops that balance with a earthy taste. The yeast adds a mild mineral aspect with a nice toasted malt flavor as it finishes.
This is an excellent example of the style -very drinkable and hardly any alcohol is detected with a refreshing yet dry malt quality

While a great tasting beer, never came close to tasting like a real Oktoberfest.Think it’s overrated at 4.25 exceptional. On the other hand,it’s a good beer on it’s own, just not up to Oktoberfest standards.

There's like 4 listings for essentially the same beer they've collaborated with different people on, but rest assured, they're essentially the same beer.

Pours a light brown and amber color that fits just right into the oktoberfest genre. Slightly lighter colored head 1/2" on the top. Marzen type caramel malt aroma impressions on the nose.

Taste is a relatively smoothed out moderately toasted and malty experience that doesn't over do it on the heft end of things. Mild sweetness. Darker bread feel to it. I tend to have this beer on hand for those who don't like hoppy beers and like a little bit of unsweetened caramel and toffee feels.

I'm not generally a fan of this style, but this one from SN (in collaboration, as always, with a European brewer) is hoppier than usual. Indeed, it comes pretty close to tasting like a pilsner, a style I drink with some frequency in the summer. Other Octoberfest beers are often too sweet for my tastebuds.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle.

Look - orange in color, with a fair amount of carbonation but not much head.
Smell - fragrant toasted malts and maple syrupy sweetness. Very pleasant.
Taste - very crisp and clean, and a slight hoppy bite in the finish.
Feel - medium bodied with high carbonation. moderate ABV at 6.1%
Overall - a crisp and refreshing beer that is still packed with flavor on malt flavor. another good Oktoberfest offering from Sierra Nevada.

Picked up a single from the Craft Beer Hop Stop cooler on 10-9-17 for $1.49. Canned on 7-7-17 and stored in the beer fridge since purchase.

Beer poured orange with a very nice white head that had some nice hang time. SNBC brews are always pretty!

Nose was toasted malts and nothing much else.

Taste was very nicely balanced between the toasted cracker malt base and the noble hops. It did lack that bite i associate with the marzen style.

Mouthfeel was medium bodied and pretty smooth.

Overall a pretty good rendition.

Gorgeous beer. Deliciously sweet and malty. Has all the great qualities of a proper German lager. Only bought a single but would love a fresh liter of this stuff.

Poured from a bottle into a glass.

A lighter colored, dark golden Oktoberfest. Minimal sudsy head that dissipated quickly. Little lacing. A general lager smell. Tastes lagerish and funky upfront, a little hop bitterness. Finishes toasty and malty.

Bought a 12pck of this from Meijer. It poured a clear golden with no head and no lace. The scent had some bread and white wine flare. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

This was my favorite Oktoberfest of the year. I poured my last bottle 11/10 and am writing this from the notes I kept throughout the fall. I didn't have one when they were super fresh as I refuse to drink the style until after Labor Day weekend.

The clear caramel body is lively with a steady stream of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. A tall frothy head of white foam leaves nice sticky lacing.

Aromas of caramel malt and yeast are nice but the nose is limited.

Taste is more interesting starting with sweet caramel malt. Earthy and floral hops carry through the finish with a small bite leaving a bitter aftertast. The malt and hop strike a good balance and the Oktoberfest character comes out nicely.

Mouth feel is crisp. The body is on the low side of medium with a carbonation to the high side of medium.

Nothing fancy here. Simply a straightforward and pretty good Marzen. I wish I would have bought more and drank them more often.

Not bad but not even close to the masterpiece that was the 2015 oktober. This one is a little fizzy and a bit short on flavor. A little skunky on the backend. If you are looking for an octoberfest there are better options.

The 2015 Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest was probably my favorite American Oktoberfest beer and honestly one of my favorite Marzens even including German beers. For some reason I haven't been a big fan of 2016's or 2017's offering. Still good, but whatever magic was in the 2015 is missing.

I would buy a 6 pack of this one while its around.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. 2017 batch. Sampled on November 5, 2017.

It is a handsome looking beer with a copper-amber tone under a lingering white foamy head. Good clarity.

Nice sweet Euro-malt aroma with hints of spice, grass, and sourdough. Caramel. This has a sweet profile overall.

The body is medium and smooth.

The taste is like the nose with a sweet caramel aspect, a little peat moss and grass, and then there is a mild to moderate bitter finale. Feels authentic. These are the kind of Marzens I like to drink.

Copper colored with a fingernail of off white. The body is very clear in appearance. The aroma is of sourdough bread. I'm tasting sourdough bread and just a suggestion of grassy hops. The mouth is light and quaffable.

A: Pours a clear medium amber in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate medium golden yellow + burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy dark beige head that reduces to a large patch of very thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of bready, biscuit, caramel, and toasted malts with a light amount of caramel + grainy sweetness. Light aromas of light fruit yeast (apple + pear) and light aromas of floral + grassy + earthy hops.

T: Upfront there are slightly heavier than moderate flavors of bready, biscuit, caramel, and toasted malts with a light amount of caramel + grainy sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors light fruit yeast (apple + pear) and slightly heavier than light flavors of floral + grassy + earthy hops which contribute a moderate amount of bitterness which fades away fairly slowly.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.

O: Enjoyable but not the easiest drinker in the style, fairly complex flavors from the combination of malts.

Bottle poured into a Sierra Nevada Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer and laces nicely.

S: Slightly toasty biscuity malt, light fruity kinda floral notes, also earthy, grassy, faint herbal notes, and some caramel sweetness.

T: Slightly toasty bready biscuity malt countered with nice noble hop notes, earthy, a bit of herbal spice, grassy, light fruity and floral notes, rounded out with a little caramel sweetness, and a slight mineral tone on the finish.

M: A bit on the lighter side of medium body, moderate carbonation, crisp and drinkable.

O: The malty side is there, but it's got a complex bitterness you don't often find in Marzens to keep it from getting too heavy or sweet.

Pours a crystal clear deep gold/pale amber with abundant effervescence streaming from the bottom. The pour produces 3 fingers of bone white, finely bubbled, foamy, somewhat lasting head that leaves a nice collar & surface cap below a pasty wash of sticky lacing. Aroma is sweet malt hints of biscuit, honey, cereal & lager yeast with fruity & grass hop hints. Taste is MALTY! A lot of effort went into the rich complexity achieved. It is heavy to the sweet side throughout. Fruity with cereal, biscuit, honey, earthy floral, pepper, spice & dried grass notes that roll over into the aftertaste with a low level bitterness arising in the finish & rapidly diminishing in the somewhat short-lived aftertaste. The lager yeast stands out. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, silky & tongue embracing, lightly prickly, exhibiting little dryness until late in the finish. A nicely complex & rich malt profile but sweeter than earlier Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest collaborations I've tried. For my palette the sweetness certainly reduces its drinkability. Good but in my humble opinion, falls short of the 2015 & 2016 versions. With all that said it hasn't kept me from multiple 12 pack purchases of this nice marzen.

Looks medium amber. Taste is biscuit malt with a little roast and some herbal/grassy tones. Not much bitterness. Seems like it's trying hit the middle ground between the sweeter American style and the drier German.
