Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
We're constantly brewing new IPAs looking for bold hop flavor. With this beer, our brewers thought it was so good that we decided to serve it straight from the tanks - unfiltered, unprocessed, and raw - to let all the fruit-forward hop flavors shine. The result is a hazy beer with modest bitterness and intense hop character. To some, making an unfiltered hop bomb may seem crazy, but to us, its a hazy little thing called IPA.

Hazy yellow color with a stiff peak of foam in the space-age IPA glass. Pleasantly aromatic with mango and a touch of pine. Modest bitterness but a little scratch in the aftertaste. Flavors of orange and tangerine with something weirdly creamy.

This is a easy to drink hoppy brew in the modern style. It's just a little gunky and herbal. Very silky mouthfeel that doesn't seem to go with the style somehow. The aroma is better than the taste. From the 12 oz can purchased at the Northwest supermarket.

This was alright. I drank it from a can in a park on a sunny Sunday afternoon at a 5-year-old's birthday party. Since I drank it from the can, I couldn't see the haze. But it was floral, and juicy, and not overly bitter. I won't make a habit of these, but I'd pull another one from a cooler at a birthday party regardless of the celebrant's age.

p.s. - if this really is an NEIPA it was my first. If it isn't really... than it really wasn't!

Bit of hop haze, moderately pale golden color. Pours a beautiful white head, creamy and lingering.

Fruity/grassy hop aroma, solventy and intense. A bit of sweetness.

Surprisingly sweet, with malt and citrusy hop flavors dominating. Finish isn't all that bitter, either. Tremendously hoppy, but skewed almost entirely to late additions I'm guessing.

Medium body and carbonation, no astringency or warming.

Doesn't really do it for me - SN probably makes a half dozen IPAs that I prefer to this one. Based on the name I expected a session IPA, so maybe I felt like it was false advertising.

Talk about a richter chart review, damn.

L: Pours that classic NEIPA haze. This isn't just an unfiltered beer, it's clearly crafted with yeast. I wish they'd change the category. Also, the head is 2 fingers and holds up extremely well.

S: There's clearly citra in here, smells of lemons, melons, stone fruit, blueberries, strawberries, very tropical

T: The beer takes a totally different dimension. It has a solid maltness, accompanied with the nose.

F: It's a bit thin for a near 7% beer, mildly dry on the backend, nicely carbonated.

O: My only suggestion is to give this beer a fluffier mouthfeel, perhaps some flaked oats? Other than this, it's a solid beer. I honestly think the low reviews are because many consider this commercial beer. Had they'd labeled this as some "enjoy by" type series, the masses would be going crazy. I also hate they market this as a "hazy", it's more than just unfiltered, this is true to New England in style. SN is guilty of cashing on the scene too. This beer is a victim of failed marketing. Being from New England, I can guarantee this is a solid beer.

I dunno, maybe it's being conditioned by SN's Torpedo and Celebration Ale, but as such there wasn't much to this one. Pleasant, drinkable, reasonable value, but wouldn't buy it again, just not enough going on. First reaction was "Is this a light beer?", so I was surprised checking its ABV. Maybe it wasn't a hot enough day, and I wasn't at cookout, and I was expecting something of a flavor treat, and it's not a bad beer, just not much flavor/satisfaction there. I'm going to wait 'til it's 90+ and humid and try it again, might be the trick.
