Style: New England IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
We're constantly brewing new IPAs looking for bold hop flavor. With this beer, our brewers thought it was so good that we decided to serve it straight from the tanks - unfiltered, unprocessed, and raw - to let all the fruit-forward hop flavors shine. The result is a hazy beer with modest bitterness and intense hop character. To some, making an unfiltered hop bomb may seem crazy, but to us, its a hazy little thing called IPA.

This is a shelf beer, widely available and $10 a 6 pack. It’s also stated by SNBC that this isn’t a New England style IPA. All that considered, this beer is outstanding! Highly crushable. Sierra Nevada kills it!

12oz canned 6/26/18 (72 days ago) poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass at fridge temp 6.7% ABV. The beer pours just beyond hefe levels of hazy in a muted orange gold color similar to grapefruit juice. The head is off white and persistent leaving ample lacing. The aroma is mild with mostly grapefruit. The taste is semisweet grapefruit peel with a mildly bitter fruity finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, adequately carbonated and mostly dry in the finish. Overall, good. I would never choose this over any SN west coast style IPA, but that is my preference.
Edit: For what it's worth, I had a 2oz sample at the Mills River brewery and hated it. Enough so that I didn’t even buy a single there. Only picked this up because of the new style guidelines. It seems to be more bitter out of the can which saves it for me. Fresh draft was like drinking a grapefruit juice and vodka cocktail. YMMV.

One of my favorite summer beers. A hazy, fruity beer that one could drink many of even at the 6.7% ABV.

Can: Poured a hazy/cloudy bright yellow color ale with a nice large pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of juicy hops notes of mango and tropical fruit is quite enticing. Taste is a nice mix of juicy hops notes of mango with some tropical fruit, some residual sugar with nice hoppy floral undertones. Body is full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Solid NEIPA with great balance.

Draft pour into a pint glass. Slightly hazy orange color. Smallish head that dissolves into a white cap of foam. Subtle orange, grapefruit and lemon. Taste follows the nose. Weak with little to no bitterness. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth. Just not my style. Like drinking watered down fruit juice. Pass.

Pours a hazy golden orange color, yet not as turbid as some of the more extreme hazy IPAs. A vigorous pour yields a moderately large frothy head that soon dissipates and leaves a creamy film and splashes of lace.
A fruity aroma showcases a combination of citrus and tropical fruit. This includes grapefruit, orange pineapple and mango. In addition, as the drink unfolds, it brings forth fragrant and dank hop oils.
Overall, the taste is dominated by juicy flavors of citrus and tropical fruit; orange peel, dry pineapple, red grapefruit. Unlike some NEIPAs, there is actually a restrained bitterness that adds a nice touch. It balances well against the fruity hops flavors and firm malt backbone that evokes bread and honey. The finish has a peach pit and grapefruit rind bitterness.
The mouthfeel presents an interesting combination of frothy and crisp, representing contrasting styles of both coasts. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
This was an interesting and tasty IPA that combines elements of East Coast and West Coast.
