Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
We're constantly brewing new IPAs looking for bold hop flavor. With this beer, our brewers thought it was so good that we decided to serve it straight from the tanks - unfiltered, unprocessed, and raw - to let all the fruit-forward hop flavors shine. The result is a hazy beer with modest bitterness and intense hop character. To some, making an unfiltered hop bomb may seem crazy, but to us, its a hazy little thing called IPA.

Canned on 12/13/17. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy glowing yellowish golden; nice fluffy eggshell white head that falls leaving great retention and sticky lacing. The aromas have subtle hints of citrus and tropical fruits. Fresh bread and crackers are there. Malts are there. The flavors basically follow the nose. Hints of grapefruit and orange. Lots of fresh grass. Moderate sweetness with a low bitterness. Malts do their thing. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's very fluffy and easy to drink.

This is an alright IPA. It's not bad at all, but it's not my favorite "New England IPA" or Sierra Nevada IPA. It's still ultimately refreshing and enjoyable.

Was excited to see Sierra Nevada make a hazy IPA. Looking up the beer online, it looked like it was made with Citra and Comet. Obviously a fan of Citra and I was somewhat familiar with Comet, but I mess that one up a lot (thinking it’s in a beer, but it’s not, etc.). Anyway, I’ll never stop being a Sierra Nevada fan. This would be my 87th review from their brewery, the most of any for me (Stone was second at this time at 84). Let’s keep it moving to 100.

Poured a gold hazy color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky off-white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Excellent foamy lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled Citra, dish soap, stone fruit, caramel malts, tangerine, nectarine, melon, lemon zest, pine, lime and hints of peppery spices. A little more flavor from the can, but not that much difference. (Smell - 3.50)

Taste was not nearly as good as the nose. This seemed very unbalanced. Still getting that Chico yeast, stone fruit, caramel malts, herbal, earthy grass, Citra, pine, dish soap, citrus peel, peppery spices, grain and bread. Not a big fan here. (Taste - 3.00)

Medium body. Oily-to-thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt grainy finish. (Feel - 3.25)

Wow. Swing and a miss. I don’t know if it was the mass producing of this beer and maybe there should have been smaller batches, but this is not good for the style at all. (Overall - 3.00)

Just to clear the air: Not a NEIPA

More akin to unfiltered Sculpin than Lagunitas Born Again

In tune with most Sierra Nevada, but aggressive carbonation and what I thought Torpedo was supposed to be, and the pine-iness seems stronger than usual.

Almost two fingers worth of head. Can see shadows of fingers on other side of glass. Smells really dank for a hazy IPA. Really dank. Funky & musty, not juicy. Taste is not juicy either and hop presence is muted. This is really malty to me. Overall, I was excited this was going to be a year round hazy IPA. But it lacks what it takes to get me to want it year round. I would be willing to try again at another time and wouldn't complain if I got one handed to me. But won't seek out any more for now.

Can dated 12/05/17 into pint glass. Pours a hazy (as advertised) gold-amber with a modest, somewhat coarse off-white head. Initial impression is juicy, sweet citrus and pineapple with a sweetish malt backing. Mouthfeel is medium sticky; carbonation is medium as well. Finish is more of the same. No lingering bitterness. All in all, a competent if not spectacular IPA. Well done.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Hazy golden pour... 1.5 fingers of foamy white head. Great rim of lacing.

S: Grapefruit and citrus... hoppy and fruity.

T/F: Biscuity grains.. bitter grapefruit hop profile. Mild tropical fruits but more citrusy. Light tangerine.. slightly grassy. The finish is grapefruit with an ooch of sweetness. Medium to light bodied.

O: A solid IPA... good flavor. Grapefruity and dank. Easy drinking if not earth shattering.

This seems a bit underrated to me. When I popped the top on the can the citrus and pineapple aroma were very fragrant and pleasant. Poured into a collapsible pint cup - hey, I am on the road - to give a cloudy yellow color. Beautiful, long lasting foamy head and nice lacing. The smell is great and the citrus and pineapple flavors are nicely offset with a bit of bitterness. Great beer!

LOOKS: A hazy, light burnt orange, with a finger of lasting, soapy, whitish, head. Leaves a mild lacing.
AROMA: Mild citrus and tropical fruits, slightly dank, slight astringency.
TASTE: Citrus, tropical, lightly toasted malt. No real astringent quality in the flavor. Slight dankness.
FEEL: Average carbonation, dry, medium thin body.
OVERALL: Seems just a little thin, but, I guess that may be due to a dialed down malt approach. I like the overall flavor quite a bit, so, this will be in my fridge frequently.

Hazy, tropical, citrus with a subdued malt body. Low bitterness, medium mouthfeel and dry finish. Probably not the best example for the style but for a mass distributed beer, they nailed it. And for $7.99 for a 6 pack. All day long big green!

Can poured into a pint glass, the Hazy little thing pours with a clean lemon orange haze though not turbid thankfully. A light cap of near white foam offers light retention yet strong lacing as it settles to a light surface cap.

Aroma is citrus/tropical in nature and with a faint malt backbone. Taste follows with muddled fruit notes and a light bready character. Feel is clean and peppery with a decent bitterness for a hazy offering though still a bit subdued for a traditional IPA. Nice balance in that regard. Fruity but not fruit juice.
