Style: New England IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
We're constantly brewing new IPAs looking for bold hop flavor. With this beer, our brewers thought it was so good that we decided to serve it straight from the tanks - unfiltered, unprocessed, and raw - to let all the fruit-forward hop flavors shine. The result is a hazy beer with modest bitterness and intense hop character. To some, making an unfiltered hop bomb may seem crazy, but to us, its a hazy little thing called IPA.

Purchased cold - Can dated 12/06/17 - Poured into an English pub glass

L - Pours a somewhat hazy dark straw color, with a bone white tightly foamed one finger head on a perfect pour. Dissipating quickly, the head recedes and leaves all but a thin veil on top with a scant ring around the glass. Beautiful stucco-esque lacing as it goes down. Visible sediment having fallen out of suspension is the only drawback here.

S - Little to no nose whatsoever, light citrus, a whiff of bready malt.

T - Redolent of citrus, slight melon, and a touch of rhubarb. Not over the top, but no real depth either.

F - Light to medium bodied, with big, sharp carbonation.

O - So I was super pumped to see this land on the shelves, and couldn't wait to get it into a glass. Nice to see Sierra Nevada throw their glove into the hazy IPA ring, but the lack of nose and sediment is displeasing. I know very well this is an unfiltered beer however hazy does not equal chunky, there are plenty of brewers who can make a hell of a hazy IPA without visible sediment present until perhaps the last sip if its a few weeks old.

12oz can. Poured out a cloudy/hazy orange color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of grapefruit, pineapple and toasted caramel. Nice tropical fruit flavor with some caramel sweetness.

Canned 11/28/17; drank 1/1/18 @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy orange appearance.

A violent pour yielded a huge bright white head; a thick curtain of frothy lace.

Cane sugar, mango & pine notes in the nose.

Soft, medium mouthfeel.

Mango & cane sugar flavors up front; mild pine dryness on the finish.

While Sierra Nevada certainly isn't Tree House, I was mildly impressed with their take on the hazy style. A bit pine-y but certainly enjoyable.

Wow, this is a great "session like" IPA and does not hit like a 6.70% beer. We brought it fresh this week at the brewery, 12/14/17 born on date. Great head, color, and taste, I hope it shows up in Florida!

Another specialty IPA from SN; this pours a cloudy golden with a billowing white head that doesn't quit. Nose is citrus and mild pine with a sweet touch of honey.

Flavor and texture are a little less robust than I first thought, the feel is almost dainty while the flavor starts well but gets a little watery down the stretch. Tasty but not as satisfying as I was hoping. Easy enough to drink but more tame than I was hoiping.

lots of new hoppy beers from these guys lately. this one is pretty good, although definitely a follower not a leader. its not nearly as hazy or thick as the ones getting attention on the east coast, but with a mellow and uniform sort of cloudiness to it, pale but still bright in the glass, goldenrod colored under a tall and rising white head that pushes above the rim and stays there until i stop smelling it and finally sip it. the nose of this is excellent, not new in any way, citra and mosaic i think, although not overly fresh or up front, more reserved and balanced with the wheat in here, although still juicy, dry hopped smelling, and quite fresh. the flavor is nice, more bitterness than a lot of these have which i really appreciate in anything still trying to be an ipa. citra more than mosaic to me in the flavor, soft and awesome with the fluffy dry cerealy wheat in here, lemon zest and tangerine or mandarin, faint white wine, and some peach too, great fruitiness from the hops, it cant just be citra i dont think, but citra leads the way. good balance and flavor here, and overall a really nice beer, and i have been really appreciating all the new beers theyve been putting out. i knew this would be good. i have said repeatedly that the east coast hazy ipa thing will have officially arrived not when half of the beer advocate top beers list is populated with them, but when one of the west coast hoppy beer heavy hitters like green flash or stone or sierra nevada or lagunitas makes one as a full time thing, and this i believe is the first of them, marking the official arrival of this style as a permanent fixture. gabf category to follow i would think... this is good beer, behind the curve right from the start, not even close to as good as it gets, but ill drink plenty of this one im sure...

Hazy gold with two fingers of foamy bone color head. Rings of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell is tropical fruit with a hint of pine.
Taste is tropical fruit some hop oil resin and a modest amount of malts.
Mouthfeel is light to medium with just enough carbonation. The finish is lightly dry and medium bitter.
Overall a decent easy drinking IPA. Packaged date indicates this is only three weeks old.

Canned 2/6/18, consumed 2/21/18

Poured hazy gold with a big sparse head that left decent lacing. I don't know about calling this unfiltered - it looks really clean with no deposits at the bottom.

Aroma is citrus fruit and sweet malt but pretty faint and muted.

Taste follows aroma but is much more zesty and full.

Mouthfeel is light, pretty light carbonation, low bitterness.

Overall, a pretty nice little hazy, especially for the price. Almost seems light. Probably easy to put a lot of these down real quick.
