Deep amber body with absolutely no chill haze. Proud two fingers of foamy head hardly move over the course of the beers' life. Really, it's a beautiful looking brew.

Mostly pine with a touch of floral kick to accent a surprisingly solid biscuity, malt scent. A hint of soap isn't as welcome.

Hops are much more assertive leading entirely with loads of pine and earth (almost Fuggles/Goldings-like). Hints of brown sugar maintain a great representation of the malt base. Lingering, pungent herbal aftertaste from the NZ hops.

It's well-crafted and the carbonation is even-keel, never obscuring the malt. Regardless, the hops are just not for me. I'd imagine that this is pretty similar to a traditional UK IPA just kicked up a few degrees. Interesting offering from SN.

24oz Bomber bottled on 04/24/14.
A - Pours a beautiful pale, cherry color with two finger head. Very good head retention.

S - Pleasant aroma. Fairly complex mixture of aromas ranging from a variety of hop scents to mild hints of citrus. Overall fairly floral and bitter smell.

T - A great blend of hops and malt. Fairly sweet caramel/toffee flavor initially, finishing with the bitterness of the hops.

M - Very enjoyable feel. Medium bodied, with a creamy, very smooth feel to the mouth; almost a frothy consistency. Perfect amount of carbonation; present but vaguely noticeable. One of the best feeling beers I've had.

O - So far my favorite beer Sierra Nevada has to offer. Very complex and well-balanced beer. Definitely will look forward to having again in the future.

From a 22 oz. bottle. Purchased May 2008, sampled June 2008.

Pours with a large tight flesh colored head. Very light carbonation, clear dull copper color. Very grassy aroma, green and hoppy. Smells sweetly of french bread, not cloying. Medium light body. Very well balanced, easy to drink. Some hints of clover, black pepper and arugula. Lingering aftertaste is bitter and sticky. Overall very tasty.

A-Pours amber with a thick off-white head that dissipates quickly leaving some decent lacing

S-Hoppy, pine and hint of citrus

T-Very hop forward as expected. Piney with just a hint of citrus and spicy. A slight caramel malt backbone. It reminded me of Celebration to be honest.

M-Thick and chewy

D-Very drinkable even given it is fairly hoppy

Overall, I'm glad I had a chance to try this as it was another solid IPA from Sierra Nevada.

Pours nice and clear, a beautiful shade of copper. Thick three finger head with a rocky look to it. Good lacing and retention. Smell is great, of fresh hops with a touch of caramel. Taste is about the same, it packs a nice hop punch to it but does have a semi-sweet malt background. Leaves a pleasant but bitter and oily aftertaste. Moderate carbonation and medium mouthfeel. Overall a good beer. The only thing I did not like about this beer was that it didnt differentiate itself much from other offerings from the company. Lets just say I could not pick this one out blindfolded from probably 3-4 other SN products.

A- Pours a slightly hazy orange/amber color with a thick foam head that leaves nice lacing.

S- Huge citrus hop aromas in the nose with a touch of sweetness.

T- Lots of hoppy bitterness upfront with more pine flavor than citrus. A decent amount of caramel like sweetness in the finish. The alcohol actual feels a bit hotter than it is.

M- Medium bodied with decent carbonation.

D- I really like these fresh hop brews and this one did not disappoint.

24oz. bottle into pint glass.

Pours a nice coppery amber color with very nice foamy beige head that leaves nice lacing. Very nice floral hoppy aroma with a fair amount of malt notes. The flavor is of floral hop bitterness with nice light citrus notes, and with a very good malt backing.
The mouthfeel is full bodied with quite a bit of carbonation, but it doesn't become too over-bearing.
It is a very enjoyable and quite drinkable APA, although for the term "fresh hop" being in the name I was expecting a bit more upfront hoppiness.

Appearance
Honey and amber with a medium thick head. Good lacing
Smell
Prominent hops come forward; malt and floral aromas are also present
Taste
Citrus and fruit mingle underneath the firm malt notes. It is only slightly bitter, the hops instead imparting more flavor than bitterness. Lingers for a while after its finished

Poured center from 1 pint 8 oz bomber into a snifter. A lot of pressure released as I cracked the cap. Dark copper color with two fingers of thick dark egg shell white head of mixed size bubbles. Slowly receding head that leaves thick soapy lace. Thick retention, numerous streams of slowly rising bubbles across the entire glass.

Green vegetal hop aroma with toffee notes.

T: Buttery body with toffee. Dry lime hop finish that sticks to the palate well after swallowing.

F: Zippy citrus mouthfeel and a dry ginger ale type finish. A little heavy in the stomach over time and drinkability is reduced for me.

O: I'm not big into IPA's so this isn't something I'd reach for continuously. A little on the simple side for me but still well brewed.

On tap at the 1st Street Draft House in W-S,came in a 12oz nonic a a clear copper with a tight clingy 1/2 white head.Citrus and pine wich wasnt unexpected dominate the nose along with a whif of caramel malt,a nice shot of fresh resiny hop really hits on the palate lingering into a biscuity slightly sweet malt base and then the hop profile shows through into a piney finish.I had this in the bottle and found it to be kinda boreing on tap the hop profile showed through much more.

Pours burnished bronze with a dense creamy head that leaves tons of sticky lacing.

Aroma is full of musty basement funk, with an underlying mild sweetness.

Taste is toasted caramel malt. Date and plum add dark fruit sweetness. Nutty and slightly woody in the finish where the hops offer a lingering earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium full. Quite viscous.

Overall an unusual IPA. The strong bitterness from the hops has an unusual earthy character, rather that the piney or citrus hop from most American IPA. Seems to have more of an English character with plenty of subtlety. Definitely worth try.

Not sure why two entries in for this beer, but the picture shows the bottle I had so heres the review.

I expect a lot out of SN and this one wasnt bad, but not great. 24oz bottle poured into pint glass on miserably hot day.

A: Poured bit cloudy auburn color with a thick meringue head. Retention and lacing bountiful

N: Floral hop smells are the first thing with a whole lot of grassiness and citrus. I like hops but this was a lot for a pale ale. Vacant of a matching malt nose.

T: Identical to the smell, all grapefruit and grassy hops with little to no malt balance. Perhaps it was too much of the grapefruit but it covered everything else up in this beer.

Whether it was the hot weather and the overbearing pininess of this one Im not sure, but it wasnt all that great as I had hoped. Or is it that Im not a fan of these NZ hops?

M: Hardly any carbonation in a good way but the oily citrus hops are what is left on the palette.
Long lasting taste.

D: Didnt think it had the balance it needed, would far prefer the celebration to this one.
Wont seek out further, not a favorite from these guys. Far from a bad beer, but a little one sided.

Pours deep amber with a large, lasting head.
Nose shows some peach, resin and pine. I was expecting more fruit... Nice biscuity malt underneath though.
Very similar flavours, lots of piney hops, almost harsh. Some sweet clean malt but the bitterness really overpowers here.
Not particularly interesting stuff, I was expecting better.

24oz bottle into Duvel tulip. 2012 vintage (just came out).

Appearance: Free pour yields a 1.5 inch fluffy bonewhite head that dissipates slowly and leaves a tight ring of lacing. Pours a clear orange and leaves a few spots and splotches of lacing.

Smell: Lemony hops, with some melon and a bit of almost-citrusy pungency. Toasted bready malt aroma in the background. Some pleasant sugary stuff happening--bakery smells. Surprisingly doesn't clash with the sharp hop aromas.

Taste: Noble hops with some melon and pine. Prominent malt backbone. Pleasant finish that could be dryer, with a lingering bitter aftertaste that isn't so good. Bit subdued with the hop flavor, especially relative to the aromas.

Lots of nice hop flavors pop up here and there (lemony notes, some pungent hops), but mostly it's a muddled noble hop flavor with a strong malt backbone. Reasonably well put together, but not great. Gets > 3.0 for some of the highlights.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. High side of moderate carbonation--always feels active, but not distractingly overcarbonated. Finish should be dryer. Bitterness is on the low side for an IPA (by Sierra Nevada, at least), but harsh.

Overall: I really like this beers subtleties, but the total package isn't doing it for me. Sierra Nevada's Northern Hop Harvest a few months ago was light years better.

The beer pours a very nice clear amber red gold color and builds a nice creamy white head about two fingers high. It sticks around a bit and leaves nice lacing on the glass.
The smell of the beer was very light. I could detect some fruity aromas, like citrus pineapple and orange, and some faint sweeter notes like honey or caramel in the background.
Tasting the beer those aromas were confirmed. Up front, a very fruity palette with those citrus and pineapple flavors dominating. In the middle a fine hop selection balances the beer nicely and brings a tingle to the tongue. At the end a slight bitterness pre vales and finishes this refreshing brew.
This brew is medium bodied and an excellent summer beer.

what an unreal brew, something so special to have a fresh hop ale in the spring months. the freshness of this beer is top notch. it pours a darker copper share, nice and clear, with an excitable off white head an inch high. the nose is citrusy hops, really juicy, but also plenty bitter, and the pale malt profile is just right as balance. the hops really shine in the flavor, and there is some pineapple type of tropical complex that I seem to always get from hops from new Zealand, although I am largely unfamiliar with these specific varietals. this beer oozes sierra Nevada quality, it is just a work of art. every bit as delicious as the northern, this is a beer I could happily drink every single day. the feel rocks, its soft and creamy, almost cask like, but well carbonated and very refreshing. the color is darker but the body is light, and I find 6.7% abv to be exactly what I like in an ipa I am going to drink all day. I just wish this was available all the time, its everything I want in a beer and nothing I don't, an exceptional product from sierra Nevada, who in many ways is still the kind of hop. I am going to buy more today!

Bomber into 20oz glass
A- Amber with generous white head.
S- A bit lacking to be honest, not much here
T- Hint of citrus, a bit onion/garlic, very sweet, a bit of bitterness, nothing spectacular.
M- A bit thick given the ABV, decent carbonation.
O- Really lacking in the nose, weird hop flavors, not very good.
