Had a pint of this on draft. Look and smell was quite average, nothing really stood out. Just characteristic of any other decent IPA. The taste is what set this apart. Sweet and floral yet well balanced. I really enjoyed this!

I have been picking this beer up for many years in a row and without exception every year is excellent! The great aroma of the hops and the great hop taste makes this a must have beer. Excellent!

2015 version. A 22oz bomber with a packaged date of 27th April 2015 i.e. day 99 for this 100-day IPA and poured into an IPA glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a clear amber ice tea colour with a big three finger off white cream head that lasts a long long time and leaves lots of lacing.

Aroma: Its all quite light as nothing stands out. Just some light caramel malts and maybe just a bit of apple, pear and pine.

Taste: For an IPA, this is rather malt driven. Initially sweet caramel and candied sugar followed by slightly bready, buscuity malt. It finishes with some floral hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: I prefer SN’s other IPA offerings over this one as the malt is overpowering here. The aromas were also a little light for me.

(22oz bomber 4-27-15, revisited) Not sure what it is but this is many steps down from the other Harvest varieties. For me it was very malt forward which isn't bad, but not what I look for in an IPA. There is also a mustiness that just doesn't belong. Freshness perhaps?

2015 batch, bottled 60 days before opening. Not what I was expecting, instead is malty, biscuity IPA with plenty of the more subtle hops, weak hops imho. I don't like this beer very much, but still glad to see SN doing this project with far away hops. Well carbonated, cloudy amber in color, firm bubbles and lacing. I just think there is too much malt presence for my preferred styles of IPAs, not a West Coast style, that is for sure and usually I love fresh hops beers. SN did put a lot of hops in this, but as I said, they are bland hops, they don't really punch out the aromas (to me), and of course they do provide bittering so this is an IPA. Maybe you will like it.

Just read some of the other reviews and one guy nailed it - nice beer but "surprisingly dead nose". Thats exactly how I feel about this years batch.

Well, this was very different from what I expected. Here goes:

A: Good. Clear, light brown with an adequate head. Also leaves sufficient lacing. Carbonation is also quite good, with small bubbles rising to the top of the glass.

S: Definitely not what I was expecting. Nothing like a West Coast IPA. Hops only impart mild grassy/floral scents, and these are eclipsed by a strong caramel malt background. Beer smells of toffee and brown sugar.

T: Follows the nose, which is somewhat disappointing. Grass is somewhat more pungent, but it really doesn't make the beer taste any better. Caramel and brown sugar coat the palate, and mild grass lingers on after consumption. Alright.

F: Smooth and crisp. Good.

O: An OK beer. Prefer SN's other IPA's to this one, as those are more focused on hops.

Poured center from 1 pint 8 oz bomber into a snifter. A lot of pressure released as I cracked the cap. Dark copper color with two fingers of thick dark egg shell white head of mixed size bubbles. Slowly receding head that leaves thick soapy lace. Thick retention, numerous streams of slowly rising bubbles across the entire glass.

Green vegetal hop aroma with toffee notes.

T: Buttery body with toffee. Dry lime hop finish that sticks to the palate well after swallowing.

F: Zippy citrus mouthfeel and a dry ginger ale type finish. A little heavy in the stomach over time and drinkability is reduced for me.

O: I'm not big into IPA's so this isn't something I'd reach for continuously. A little on the simple side for me but still well brewed.

Solid head with with a nice floral hop smell. Very good IPA, very well done. Very sweet malty taste. Could repetitively drink these all day. The color has a beautiful reddish hue. Love the bitterness at the end, not to prickly, sort of smooth. I'm really digging this, pairs nicely with a sardine bread type dish. Food pairing sheds different flavors from this. I will be purchasing again, really enjoying this one. Great Brew!

Poured into an IPA glass from a growler from TBG.

A - Clear amber with orange highlights, three finger head moves to a creamy lace.

S - Pale malts, biscuit, pine.

T - True to the nose, very bready, hints of lemon.

M - Medium low carbonation, heft is a touch above average. Finishes somewhat dry.

O - Very clean, balanced. Can't agrue with that.

2015 version. 2nd of 5 beers. Pkgd 4/27/15. Darker in color, crimson or Amber with a HUGE head that does not dissipate easily. Smells spicy and floral. Taste is intense hops but clean and well balanced.

Bottle poured into a Sierra Nevada pint glass

A: Pours deep copper amber with a creamy light tan head that slightly settles to a thick layer that hangs around and leaves thick rings of lacing.

S: Toffee sweetness, maybe even a hint of dark fruit, tropical fruit, citrus, and a little pine.

T: Pine, citrus, lemon and lime, grapefruit pith, and a little tangerine, tropical fruit, passion fruit and hints of pineapple and mango, peppery spice, herbal notes, and some bready toffee sweetness.

M: A little towards the heavier end of medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: This one gets much better as it warms, releasing all the New Zealand hop character I love. Very nice beer.

Appearance: A beautiful light copper color with a two finger egg shell colored head

Smell: Floral and herbal/subtle spice, caramel, fig. Light yet somewhat complex aromas

Taste: Sweetness from the malt upfront (caramel and candied sugar) and floral hops mid palate and throughout the finish. Perhaps a slight citrus note in there as well

Mouthfeel: Medium body; Goes down fine, cant detect much if any alcohol, but it the carbonation and bitterness is on the high side

Overall: This isnt something thatll blow you away with hops, but rather has a pleasant balance with the malt. Its clean and still tastes somewhat fresh two months after bottling. Knock the carbonation and bitterness down a notch and id enjoy this even more. Good job SN!

Got to my usual stores a few days late this year and this was already sold out, so figured I'd have to pass on it this year, but finally found one bottled on 4/27 at a place off the beaten track. Always look forward to both the hemisphere offerings, so even though it's about 6 weeks old, still looking forward to this one...into a tulip

a: massive khaki 3 finger head that leaves a ton of lacing, beautiful deep reddish amber color with a bit of haze

s: mild spices and flowery notes, herbs and even some mintiness, a kiss of fruity citrus, some caramel, fig, and bread fresh from the oven...not too big, but what you get is nice

t & m: follows the nose but better...pretty bready and smooth on the front, then juicy in the middle, and some moderate but compelling herbal bittersweetness on the end. Lose the spiciness I got on the nose. Delicious and very smooth. Moderate carbonation, dries out a little on the end but not too much. Nice clean finish. Would be even better with a bit more something: wet dank, bitter, or some bite. As with every year, this one is a pleasure to drink.

Bottled April 27, 2015. Opened June 12, 2015

Surprisingly dead nose. Pleasantly malt forward body for an IPA win a firm woody-bitter finish, but nothing to write home about.

Not sure what happened here. I expected bright fresh hops and I am not getting any. Smells like a lager. Taste is dull and all I get is bitterness. Maybe this beer was beat up by the liquor store? Date on bottle is 4/27/15. nb

Color: Deep copper color; transparent. Lots of small bubbles upon close inspection. GIGANTIC tan head (4-5 fingers) that dies down very slowly leaving an uneven layer of foam on the surface of the beer and large quantities of sticky lacing on the sides of the glass.

Smell: Mild malty and hoppy aroma. Nothing special. Like a good commercial beer.

Taste: Similar to how it smells. Mild malty, grain flavor to start with a mild hoppy finish and a slight bitter bite at the end. Decent.

Feel: On the lighter-side of medium body; very slight dry finish.

Overall: A decent IPA; milder flavor, refreshing and not too hoppy. I had this with pizza and it complemented it well. There are many better beers, but this was a better than average drinking IPA that was not over-the-top in price.

Poured in a pint glass. Very heady but dissapates fairly quickly. Super lacy as you drink. Carbonation is perfect. Beer looks like apple cider- in a good way. Very pleasant medium feel. A bit too bitter for me on the finish, but otherwise a very good IPA.

24oz Bomber bottled on 04/24/14.
A - Pours a beautiful pale, cherry color with two finger head. Very good head retention.

S - Pleasant aroma. Fairly complex mixture of aromas ranging from a variety of hop scents to mild hints of citrus. Overall fairly floral and bitter smell.

T - A great blend of hops and malt. Fairly sweet caramel/toffee flavor initially, finishing with the bitterness of the hops.

M - Very enjoyable feel. Medium bodied, with a creamy, very smooth feel to the mouth; almost a frothy consistency. Perfect amount of carbonation; present but vaguely noticeable. One of the best feeling beers I've had.

O - So far my favorite beer Sierra Nevada has to offer. Very complex and well-balanced beer. Definitely will look forward to having again in the future.

24oz bomber bottle on 04/27/15 poured into a snifter.

Appearance: Pours a clear, pale-ruby with 1 finger of head

Smell: Foral hop notes with some cracker malt

Taste: Mix of herbal hop flavors with more malt than I expected. Finish is earthy with some peppery hop notes.

Mouthfeel: Medium with a crisp finish

Overall: Not as good as I remember previous releases. Nice hop flavor, but it really felt more like a hoppy amber than an IPA. Regardless, a worthwhile experience.

The beer pours a nice and full cream colored head that takes a long while to dissipate but leaves quite a bit of lacing on the sides. The beer is a very clean and clear copper. The texture is pretty nice to look at.

The beer smell is very good and sweeter than usual. The smell certainly has a mixture of different hop notes. The notes range from bitter pine hop note to citrus and a more dank hop note; not to mention some obvious dry hopping. The beer smell also has a strong malt smell to it and works well with the more subdued hop notes. The malt comes off a sweet caramel and bready note that is pretty good. MY only issue is that the notes are subdued.

The beer taste is better than the taste with a nice sweet malt and dank hop notes. The malt notes are caramel and bready. The beer has a nice bitter dank hop aftertaste that is pretty good. The hops are fairly bitter and dank with less variation than the smell but the coherence works..

The mouthfeel is pretty decent. The beer has a very smooth feel because of the carbonation even though the carbonation isn't very biting. The beer does feel thicker than a usual IPA though and that detracts from the beer a bit.

Overall, a pretty good offering from Sierra Nevada and worth getting again if you can. Highly recommend.

Had in a traditional pint glass at Birdsall House in Peekskill, NY

This was not what I expected. Much more of a malt foundation than hops IMHO. Frankly, nothing on the front; mid was some spice, licorice, baked apple, cinnamon; back was hop, tea, lemon and orange peel. I would happily drink it again, just not a got to...

Pours a deep amber, light khaki colored head, and thick lacing. Floral, earthy and slightly citrus in the nose. Earthy, floral, peppery and citrusy hop flavor. Background of caramel flavored malt. Medium to full mouthfeel that finishes slightly sticky and coats the plate. Overall a nice IPA with some straight forward hoppy flavor.
