Presentation: It was poured from a brown 24oz bottle into a pint glass. The label reads 2nd release 2009.

Appearance: The pour produced a tall thick and pillowy foam head. It is light tan in color and has great retention. It keeps a nice one finger thick cap all the way down the glass and as I drink, it leaves behind nice lacing on the glass. Under this head is a deep rich amber colored liquid. The beer is not totally clear as I noticed that there is a very fine yeast particle haze in it.

Smell: The aroma has a citrus like hop character with some pine notes as well. Under that are some light bready/malty notes with just a hint of raw grain and even some fruity/estery/yeasty notes.

Taste/Palate: The flavor has a sturdy base of bready malty sweetness with a touch of raw grain. Hop flavor is the focus here though, and they add an assertive yet well balanced bitterness and solid citrus (lemon and orange rind and pith) sweet spicy herbal and mild pine like flavor notes. The finish has a long slow bitter hop fade. Its palate has a nice lively feel with plenty of soft carbonation and a good solid medium body.

Notes: This beer is absolutely outstanding. I really enjoyed the play between malt sweetness and the solid hop bitterness.

A: Pours a beautiful copper color with a big frothy off white head that sticks around a nice long while.

S: Tons of hop, citrusy, piney,

T: Hop bitterness right up front, nice maltiness comes at the end to balance things out perfectly.

D: I was expecting more of hop bomb than this turned out to be, and that is a very good thing. There's to many beers out there hopping a beer to death, the balance found in this beer was a great surprise.

Poured into a wide-mouth Killian's Imperial Pint, large white head which sticks around for a long time. A gorgeous orange copper color, simply beautiful.

Smell is of hops but with some faintish malt. Citrus is trying to break through, but doesn't quite materialize.

Taste is very complex with grapefruit definitely present upfront. Some earthiness also present. What I really like about the taste here is that it is extremely balanced. In these days of over the top IPAs, it's nice to see that one of the US' seminal craft brewers has taken the high road and come up with a specialty beer that is balanced.

Mouthfeel is very full for an IPA. Balance present once again.

Overall drinkability is very good, and the "higher" ABV is well-masked.

I'm a big fan of SN beers and their previous Harvest releases. This one is the best Harvest I have had to date. Great stuff, which will appeal to "extreme" IPA drinkers as well as the more mainstream brew drinkers.

Poured into a brandy snifter. Pours golden orange with a thick, biege white head. The head dissipates very slowly. Lacing is left behind on the glass as the head dissipates. Some bubbles can be seen rising along the side of the glass and up from the bottom. Fresh citrus, piney, and floral hops as well as sweet malts hit the nose up front. It smells resinous and grassy. Bright hops are forward in the taste and are balanced by the just as forward sweet malts. Juicy citrus and resinous pine are well balanced here. It has a mild spiciness as well. The flavors are very bold and pleasing. The body is medium to full with adequate carbonation. The beer is smooth. The drinkability is very high. Overall, this is an excellent beer with great flavor and drinkability. Sierra Nevada once again has another winner with this IPA.

First time grabbing this beer though I have seen it every year.

Poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass.

Appearance: Burnt orange color with a one finger off white head that recedes to lacing.

Smell: Nice light citrus. Refreshing smell, a little bit floral. Nice caramel malt in the background.

Taste: The New Zealand hops shine but the malt bill is amazing in this beer. I really enjoy this IPA. Very unique. The flavors meld together perfectly.

Mouthfeel: Perfect for the style. Lighter side of medium bodied and nice carbonation, but not over the top.

Overall: Great beer! I was blown away by this and I went in with minimal to no expectations. Worth the $6.99 for the 24 oz beer. Possibly my favorite offering from them to date.

Saved this for halloween night - fot the ceremonial beginning of the fall season.

A: Poured from the 22 oz bomber into my goblet. generous off-white head settles to a thin film with heavy lacing. Pours almost red, (orangy?) and this is not super clear but not as cloudy as I'd expect for this level of hoppiness...

S: really great but subtle. the aroma is so enticing I was unable to just smell this one, I skipped ahead to the drink right away. But the smell hints at a bit of malt background and there's a bit more of hoppiness

T: really great hoppy taste here. the malt lies far in the background. the hops stay with you for a bit in a good way

M solid body. More smooth than the taste would suggest. carbonation just right. No taste of alcohol at all.

D: Supremely Drinkable. One of the best beers I've had.

24oz Bomber bottled on 04/24/14.
A - Pours a beautiful pale, cherry color with two finger head. Very good head retention.

S - Pleasant aroma. Fairly complex mixture of aromas ranging from a variety of hop scents to mild hints of citrus. Overall fairly floral and bitter smell.

T - A great blend of hops and malt. Fairly sweet caramel/toffee flavor initially, finishing with the bitterness of the hops.

M - Very enjoyable feel. Medium bodied, with a creamy, very smooth feel to the mouth; almost a frothy consistency. Perfect amount of carbonation; present but vaguely noticeable. One of the best feeling beers I've had.

O - So far my favorite beer Sierra Nevada has to offer. Very complex and well-balanced beer. Definitely will look forward to having again in the future.

Appearance - Slightly cloudy amber in color with a healthy rocky cream/off-white head. Laces well, if sporadically.

Smell - A distinctly sweet hops smell, with a touch of malt in there as well as a hint of brown sugar.

Taste - Hops with a twist, almost cinnamon on the edge of the flavor. Slightly buttery flavor with a fair amount of malt in there as well. Slight burnt wood flavor lingers on the tongue.

Mouthfeel - Oily and smooth, very slightly underwhelming on the carbonation, but not too bad.

Drinkability - This is a fantastic brew that I could sip on all night long. Unfortunately I only bought the 1 bottle, so that won't be happening all night long.

24oz brown bottle obtained at The Liquor Shoppe in Tygsboro, MA. Pours a murky dark amber body with nearly an inch of off-white head. Citrus (lemon, orange), pineapple, herbs, mint, and a bit of caramel and pith in the aroma. Orange, grapefruit, pineapple, berry, pith, lemon, mint, all presumably from the hops, dominate the flavor, with just enough caramel and biscuit to provide a bit of balance. Dry finish with hints of vegetal, fruity, and herbal hops. One of the most complex hop flavors of any beer I've tried. Medium bodied with ample carbonation to boot. No alcohol presence or warming to speak of. Extremely drinkable on account of every trait of this beer. I was expecting a lot from this beer and it did not disappoint. One of the best APAs around and for the price it's probably the best bang for your buck flavor-wise too! Bravo, SN!

Appearance: Nice little fluffy head. Not too much and not too little. Very light lacing on glass. Gorgeous cloudy Amber coloring. Real nice to look at.

Smell: Mostly hops. Kind of faint. Probably because I left it in the freezer too long and too cold.

Taste: Nice crisp hops. Has a earthy, grassy taste. Not much malt.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation. Feels really good on the tongue. Almost hate to swallow it.

Drinkability: Good ABV makes it very sessionable. Goes down smooth and easy.

Sierra Nevada delivers again. Hard to say which is better. The Wet Hop or Fresh Hop. Big difference between the two. Always something to look forward to every year. Especially if you like hops but not too much to overpower you. Very well balanced.

Pours out a nice amber brew slightly hazy with a one finger fluffy head.Medium carbonation rises slowly through the brew. Smells of grapefruity hops,,awesome aroma. Wow taste,,i had to give it a five. Some malty sweetness beautifully mixed with hop bitterness. No lingering effects,,just a nice clean brew. The last Harvest they had out was an exceptional beer,,this is a great seasonal and i hope they continue to produce it yearly.Mouthfeel is perfect,,not too thin,,not too chunky. What a great beer.

new to my area.

A- pours a golden/hazy color with a frothy head that is full of lace into my warm pint glass.
S- Sierra Nevada has their own smell, and you got it here. Hops, you smell the wonderful aroma of hops.
T- As you taste this beer, you are in a familiar situation as any other Sierra Nevada. Overwhelming amount of hops, but this one has the New Zealand hops. I actually can not differentiate the difference betweeen American Halertau and New Zealand Halertau, but that is what you taste.
D- I am going to buy more of this one!

This is a wonderfully balanced beer. I tried this beer in the Spring and then in the Fall, and noticed the floral character had faded significantly. A really fine and complex beer, and without sounding to superficial, the label is fantastic (2011) - my advice is drink it as soon as its in the shops!!

I went to pick up exit 11 (flying fish) but this was also there, A pleasant surprise!

Pours a dark copper amber color, keeps a strong, fluffy thick head alway the way to the end of the beer. Lacing of course as well. Stays nice and carbonated.
Smells of cascades hops, A bit of pine and some soft caramel notes.
Tastes of strong, fresh bittering hops. I definitely pick up cascade hops again. earthly notes with a bit of a citrus zest. Mouth feel is medium bodied and finishes smooth.

A very solid beer. Sierra Nevada never dissapoints.
One of the favorites to look forward to each year.

Pours a beautiful rich golden amber hue. Color reminds me of summer afternoons. Transperancy somewhat cloudy and hazy. Waterfall lacing on the glass. Smells of tropical fresh hops and very pleasing to the nose. This beer has just the rite amount of hops to my liking. A very ballanced bitterness. Im so used to cascade hops that i can taste and detect the flavors in these exotic new zealand hops. Upon first taste i detected hints of lilikoi(passion fruit). This beer tastes like hawaii. This brew has an excellent mouthfeel. Very clean and fresh. Ballanced carbonation and tingly to the tounge. This beer is super drinkable. One of my favs of 2010. This particular beer holds centimental value to me because it uses new zealand hops like steinlager, my staple in hawaii.

I just bought a case of 12 24oz bottles in PA for $43. A little over $3.50 a bottle and well worth it. I'm a big Sierra Nevada fan and this beer does not disappoint. A smooth/balanced beginning ends with a nice hoppy finish. I think its quite comparable to their pale ale, but a bit higher in ABV so watch out. More head than expected and little or no yeast left at the bottom of the bottle. That was a welcome surprise to me because I can have an allergic reaction if I consume too much.

Pours a reddish amber, with a small and somewhat rocky head.
Smells quite citrusy and hoppy, and the New Zealand hops which are gaining much popularity come through nicely as finishing agents. Interesting how the Hallertau hops are so prevalent.
Taste is extremely nice, hoppy but with a good long finish, that keeps me wanting more. The citrus notes and pine are refreshingly exciting. Reminds me much of the Celebration.

Thanks Sierra Nevada.

I have been awaiting this brew! Wandered into my second-favorite store to find several of these in the cooler. 5.75 he wanted for the bottle and I gladly paid. Poured in portions from the 22oz bottle into a 20oz Otter Creek 'worldtour' pint glass.

Appearance is nothing extraordinary. A pleasant Sierra-Nevada-esque warm brown. A rocky head that loves to foam up if you are not careful pouring. Insane lacing.

Smell is lovely. Malts? What are those?

The taste is where this beer shines. Not as heavy on the hop oils as I had anticipated, but still packed with flavor. The hops linger on the tongue just enough to remind you what you are dealing with, but not long enough to forestall another sip.

Mouthfeel is great. For a strongly hopped ale that puts the malt in the background it is hard to imagine something better.

Drinkability varies on your personal preference. As a hop-head I found this brew extremely drinkable.

If you like hops, find this beer.

Served in a tulip glass.

Pours a beautiful deep, orange-gold color with a huge, pillowy cream-colored head of foam that fades slowly and sticks to the sides of the glass, leaving behind nice, thick lace.

Smells of bright, citrussy, fruity hops. Nothing else really going on, but the aroma is nice and sweetly floral.

Mouthfeel is lightly spritzy and medium-bodied. Flavors of sweet, citrussy hops dominate the palate, with distinct notes of apricot; nothing much else appears but for a tiny hint of caramel malt in the very background. The fresh hops give this brew a distinctly different flavor than other highly-hopped ales, as the taste they lend is much sweeter and fruitier; it's absolutely amazing and delicious.

I could drink this all night long -- or at least until the 6.7% ABV finally got to me. A wonderfully, distinctive APA that is certainly worth seeking out.

I had out of a bottle.
A- It's very bubbly (small bubbles). It's semi-cloudy with a big thick head and lots of lacing.
S- Extremely hoppy scent...beautiful.
T- It has a very crisp hop taste. It's very bitter, but there is a sweetness to it that balances it out. Truly exceptional.

A - Poured a rich dark copper color, with a thick whipped cream like 4 finger head.
Thick *clumpy* lace lines my glass.

S - Smell is primarily of hops; pine, grapefruit, floral hoppy aroma with a hint of pure clover honey. The dry hopping really come through with the huge waffing of floral aroma.

T - Taste is amazing, the hops do not overwhelm. Pine and citrus with a real earthy note...not like dirt, but really reminds me of a home-brewed organic IPA. Tastes like Brewers gold, cascade, Mt Hood...
The hops do not overwhelm as the malt comes through in the middle peaks and then the dry bitter hops finish and linger.

M - Mouthfeel is thick, dry and clean, some oily hop presence. Carbonation is medium to light. The presence of the carbonation is more of an afterthought, does not overwhelm, leaving this ale very smooth.

D - This is a bit of a sip and ponder beer. I could enjoy this any time of year, but on hot dreadful days I may grab somthing a bit less filling.
I just ate a giant bowl of pho prior to reviewing, so my gut is about to burst.
I will definatly grab this again

So much better then their EPA. That fact that the hops used in this beer were picked processed and boiled in the wort within ten days on the vine is amazing. Kudos Seirra Brewing!

Bought this beer at 4 firkins in MN today - very nice, very smooth - a really nice amber ale which is what I prefer. Drinks very smooth ... not too hoppy ...

I know that I would have this again. My nephew Zak liked it too but not as well perhaps as I did.

24oz bottle poured into a generic 24oz glass. Poured a nice copper/bronzish color with an extremely frothy 2 finger tan-colored head that laced the entire 24oz glass.

A slight malt smell reaches the nose first before being slammed with the citrusy hops. Definitely a unique smell from this one.

The taste does not disappoint. Slightly malty up front with a nice smooth hop bitterness to finish off the drink (along with a mouthful of lingering head with each drink.)

Medium-bodied and very pleasant.

Overall, this was a fantastic beer that I recommend to everyone. The smell, the taste and the appearance were all top notch and I will certainly stock up while Harvest is available.

Stated 2014 on the bomber.

A - Pours out super clear ambersh orange with a frothy three finger off white head that leaves incredible lacing around the glass.

S - Floral, citrusy, fruity, raisin, fig, caramel, sweet and malty. Complex and Beautiful!

T - Sweet, floral, caramely, gratefruit/citrus, fruity esters, lemon zest, bitterness. Very well balanced!

M - Medium bodied and super soft in the mouth, almost frouthy. Carbonation is perfect on this, which really makes it a pleasure to drink outright.

O - Can I say I love this beer! I had it on tap at a local bar and it grabbed my attention like no other beer that I have had thus far. I enjoyed it so much, I went on a wild goose chase looking for it at all the local beer stores with no avail, I asked a beer store if they would get it on the next shipment and sure enough it came in! I will be picking more of this up, that is for sure. The beer has so much to offer, and yet it is so smooth with a perfect blend of flavors and aromas. Its balance has no offensive flavors to speak of. If you want an excellent fresh hop ale look no further, this is a must get cheers!
