Poured a beautiful hazy honey golden color with a thick creamy white head. Looks like some fine particles floating about as well. Left some nice lacing all down the glass.

Smell is like clean white bread (clean bread?) some sweet citrus and I also pick up some nice spicy hits.

Some citrus and a back note of banana for the fruits I pick up. A very spicy sizzle across the mid tongue that has a definite taste that goes down the back of the throat with some nice clove notes.

Mouth feel is fantastic! Feels nice and light, almost airy, with a crisp finish.

This beer is a solid winner for wheat heads and fans of the style. I love this beer and would be very sad if Sierra Nevada pulled it from its line up. On the opposite end I would be excited to see this in 12 packs, and while I am dreaming lets put it in cans. This would make it much safer for transport to the park and pool on a hot summer day where this beer would really shine.

Pours honey color with 1/2 finger of a quickly dissipating head. Unfiltered appearance.

Aroma is of clove, banana, nutmeg, and mace.

Taste is not bad, but really, it's just middle of the road at best. A little thick in feel, yet a bit watery or lacking any burst of true flavor. Then again the abv is pretty low. Some clove spiciness and a bit of banana are present. Nice amount of yeast character as well. Little bit of wheat.

Overall, I wouldn't buy again. I'm just alright on this style anyway. I see it pairing well with a warm, spice-forward dessert. Maybe freshly baked ginger bread. It gets a 77/100.

So good. I have had just about every hefe out there and combo thereof. I bought this in a pinch because the store was out of Weistephaner but this was cloudier and has double the sediment of Weinstephaner. This is my go to now. So fucking good if you like this style.

In a pint glass from a bottle.

L - has a nice golden color to it. just a slight haze. there was no head retention to speak of. no lacing on the glass

S - smells like banana bread. lots of yeasty pepper aroma.

T - tastes more like bitter lemon peel and cloves. the peppercorn notes gives it a bit of an edge. tastes like a hefeweizen for sure. not quite as much wheat content as what I expected.

F - the mouthfeel surprised me. there isnt really any body to this beer. very clean and refreshing. slightly carbonic.

O - i really enjoyed this beer. would make a great summertime beer. Sierra Nevada makes great beer at good prices.

For the price, this is one of the best American made Hefes out there. If you want to see something really interesting, look up some videos on the open fermentation tanks they use at Sierra Nevada. They go all out to make great beer, and the prices are reasonable. I'm a big fan.

From Uvinum. BB 31 March 2016. In Bavaria weiss glass. After dinner. Good but was expecting something more special from sierra nevada. Classic but not much banana taste. A bit acidic. Maybe it was a bit in bad state?

Recently had this at Ridehill's 5 Napkin burger restaurant in Yonkers, NY. Love the bottle. Goes will with a burger! Smell nutty and all things winter. Good rich feel like velvet. Tasted a lot of spices. Would love to have another!

Appearance - Pours a hazy straw gold with two fingers of bubbly white head.

Smell - Traditional hefe aromas like banana and clove, yeast, bubblegum, wheat malts, spicy hops.

Taste - Predominantly wheat malts at first, then the yeast and spicy hops take over. Very similar to the aromas and well balanced.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation. Finishes off dry with a bit of tartness from the yeast.

Overall - A well executed hefeweizen that displays all the characteristics of the style. Flavours are married well and showcases the yeast and spicy hops.

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass

A: Pours a hazy orange color with a bright white head, head is full and creamy, some slight lacing, lots of head retention, good amount of carbonation flowing.

A: Lots of banana sweetness in the aroma, hint of bubble gum sweetness, some spice like cloves, biscuits, bread, yeast, smells Belgian, lots of aromas, smells really good.

T: Like the nose, bananas, spice, bubble gum, yeast, finish is more banana, complex, balanced, very drinkable.

M: Semi-dry finish, lots of carbonation on the mouthfeel, easy on the palate.

O: First hefeweizen I am rating, this is pretty good, lots of flavor, nice carbonated mouthfeel, easy to drink, I think I'm going to add this to my summer beer list, I can see this beer going great with warm weather.

So I am actually reviewing two "versions" of the Kellerweis from Sierra Nevada at once. The first part of this review will describe a "Kellerweis Hefeweizen" packaged in early August 2014. The second part will describe a "Kellerweis Bavarian Style-Wheat" packaged in early April 2015. Are they the same beer, just enjoyed at 15.5 months and 7.5 months, respectively? Or was there in fact a change in recipe that somehow managed to keep the 4.80% ABV from before? I'm leaning towards the latter, even though Beer Advocate does in fact have both versions on this site, one considered a Hefeweizen, one considered a Kristalweizen, though I'm certain that is a mistake and I intend on reporting an update.

"Hefeweizen": Hazy orange with yellow tint and smaller whitish head of decent retention. Yeasty and spicy phenols, light lemon on the nose. Lemony tart throughout and extremely clovey after bubbles have smoothed out, banana is there but watered down. Yeast quality apart from cloves and banana as well, spicy and fungal. Slightly bready aftertaste. Medium-bodied, thickish, chewy, lightly carbonated, not as smooth as label lead me to believe it would be.

"Bavarian-Style Wheat": Dull semi-clear yellow at first with mirky clouds of yeast slowly sinking from below the head. Soon more of an orange haze. Head is white and retains alright despite how thin it is from the start. Decent lace. Yeasty phenols, almost Band-Aid, and bready aromas. Lemony tart throughout and clove-likeness sets in almost immediately. Yeasty. A bit of pepper, especially in retro-olfaction. Don't really detect much for banana. Medium-bodied, thickish, lower and gentler carbonation, very smooth.

While I *really* enjoy this brew, classifying it as a hefeweizen somehow feels wrong--between the peppery, spicy kick, and the actual, appropriately West Coast-American hop presence (loads of citrus and a bit of pine), this feels almost closer to a witbier or (maybe) an American pale ale with a Belgian/wheat twist.

Colour is cloudy yellow; a gentle pour didn't produce much head; smell is spicy, full of pepper and peppercorns, clove, banana. Taste is likewise peppery, banana, clove, with a bit of citrus and pine. Moderate-high carbonation, but nice body. And I do like the ABV here, which makes this fairly sessionable.

This was one of the first craft beers I had a few years ago and I hated it. Since then my palate has come around to the spicy yeasts from across the pond (hefs, wits, belgian darks), and I think this is an excellent representation of the style. It has over 1,300 reviews so I will spare you the details but what I will say one thing I appreciate about Kellerweis. It has all the banana, clove, soft fluffy wheat base you want but I also get a nice citrus tartness that is super refreshing and makes me want to take another sip I have had hefs that are too banana sweet like runts candy but this has a slight acidity that cuts through the sweetness and makes it incredibly balanced. It is a low abv thirst quenching beer that is still packed with unique flavors. I am so impressed how they brew it (open tank fermentation!?!) on such a large scale!

Smell- of Banana and to me almost a honey and wheat

Taste- Wheat, banana, and a bit of spice with a sour hop finish

feel- light to medium with a bit of dryness

Overall- This is the first Sierra Nevada beer that I somewhat liked most go down the drain but I am still not a fan letter grad C

Slightly cloudy yellow pour into a pint glass. Small foamy head with decent lacing. Very citrusy taste with lemon and orange taste along with a fairly light banana taste. A God hefe, and I like a good hefe!

One of the more interesting pours I've ever had. A slightly hazy golden yellow in color. The middle of the class gad what looked like a silt tornado...pretty cool. Good lacing, white foamy head. Earthy/leafy aroma, slightly fizzy feel. Very easy drinking at 4.8% ABV. Very good, but only if you like the style.

A - Pours a very murky, golden yellow color. Fluffy 2 finger head that dissipates fairly quick; no lacing noted.

S - Very pleasant to the nose and a fairly aromatic beer all-in-all. Most dominant aroma is that of banana, proceeded by clove and subtle hints of spice. Very sweet smelling beer.

T - The tastes follows the nose. The flavorings are pretty much spot on the aromas given off with that of banana being the most distinct flavor. The notes of banana leave a lingering and enjoyable sweetness after every sip.

M - Incredibly crisp feeling beer, very smooth and feels refreshing; not dry. Fairly carbonated and no notice of any alcohol present. A fairly light beer as well.

O - SN never fails to impress me. I will continue enjoying all their varieties of beers for years to come! Overall a very well done beer in which I have no complaints. Very drinkable, lighter beer that would be perfect drink on a hot summer day.

Banana bread heaven! Tons of banana, yeast, cloves, none overpowering, never too sweet, and pretty much a perfect rendition of the style. Soft, easy to drink one (yet I can never have more than one of this style at a time before the banana gets too much for me), and perfectly clear, haze/sediment free pour. Overall, I'm not a huge fan of this style but I can tell these guys got it right.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a Teku glass.

L - Pours a cloudy, light golden yellow with an airy white head.

S - Wheat, banana, and a bit of spice.

T - Banana, clove, citrus with a slightly sour hop finish

F - Weaker carbonation, watery almost.

O - Bottle packaged on 05/13/15. It's heavy on the cloves and weak in the carbonation...but it's okay for lovers of citrus and spice beer lovers.

Pours a very cloudy and creamy yellow color into pint glass with a full white head. Lacing is plentiful. Initial taste is light and fruity, definitely taste banana. Aftertaste is fairly smooth with and slightly dry. Makes a great summertime brew. One of my favorite Hefe's and will certainly purchase more in the near future.

Yellow with a thick foamy white head

Smell is fairly aromatic and spicy. I''m getting hints of cloves and cinnamon as well as some subtle fruit smells

Taste has a definite banana-like flavor with a subtle but interesting hop profile layered on top

Mouthfeel is light and somehow seems a little creamy for such a light beer

This has a really interesting but nice flavor for a lighter beer. Seems on par with German offerings I've tried

Moderately chilly in my weizen glass.

It looks a beautiful sunset orange with a small-ish cap of white froth that settles to a perpetually surface-shielding sheet. It really just won't break up. How tenacious.

This beer's label speaks of banana bread in the flavor, and this is actually a very good description of the aroma I'm getting. And the clove it speaks of - yes, that is present. Additionally, I detect some citrus; it may be lemon, or orange. And of course, there is yeast.

"Scrumptious" is how I describe the taste. It really fits the aroma notes I just picked out astoundingly well, in exactly the order I noticed them above. Orderly, balanced flavor.

The feel is greatly carbonated and otherwise appropriate.

This is a great hefeweizen. It's faithful to the traditional German style, but also sets itself apart as American with some notable fruitiness of a citrus-like nature.

One of the better wheat beers I've tried. Wheat, clove, some mild spices, a touch a floral and a splash of banana notes. Yeasty/little funky. Super drinkable. Great summer beer. Sierra Nevada does a great job with this one.

A: Pours a hazy yellow gold with about a finger of effervescent, fairly quickly dissipating but with good retention. Truly excellent.

S: Wheat, bananas, some mild fruits, and hops. A complicated, enticing smell.

T: Wheat, spice, a bit of candy gum like flavor, and a slight floral hop bite. Some of the best I've had in this category.

M: Bubbly, fresh, and just the right amount of body.

I was able to pull the sediment out of the bottom of the bottle and into the glass . Made it pour a heavily murky banana color. Decent head size for a beer of this style.

The aroma is strong of both cloves and banana. Possibly something else fruity in the aroma as well... apricots maybe?

Some lemon adds to the banana and clove flavor typical to this style.

Soft mouthfeel without sacrificing too much carbonation. This is a very nicely brewed beer, and something I will look for again, especially on hot summer occasions.
