Sampled from a 12oz bottle in a standard pint glass. Purchased at Lowes Foods in Apex, NC.

A - Straw colored and cloudy. A large, fluffy white head with good retention and decent lacing.

S - Lots of aroma dominated by bananas and cloves.

T - Lots of banana and spice in the start and a mild bitterness and a slight tartness in the finish. This is a very flavorful beer.

M - A creamy consistency with a nice moderate level of carbonation.

D - I've been looking forward to trying this beer and it didn't disappoint. It's got a lot of flavor, goes down easy and is very refreshing. And at 4.8%, it makes a nice summer session beer.

A- Pours a hazy straw golden color with a thick white foam. Nice lacing all the way down.

S- Loads of clove and sweet fruit scents dominate the nose. A bit of spice and banana are most easily detectable.

T- Clove and wheat flavors are really well pronounced and add alot to the overall taste without being overbearing. Banana and coriander can be found as well. Finishes with a smooth bready/clove flavor. I thought that there would be some signature Sierra Nevada hoppy bitterness but there was not (true to style points +1).

M- Light and crisp. Nice carbonation.

D- Really nice example of a Hefe. It's nice to see a well distributed American brewer put out a decent representation of a traditional German brew.

Pours very hazy yellow gold. Very hazy. Thick two-finger head retains well and leaves behind good lacing.

Nose is more banana than clove, but clove is definitely there. Strong yeast aroma as well.

Fizzy on the tongue at first. Then malt body kicks in, followed by a mild citrus flavor tempered by banana.

The label says velvet feel and they are not kidding. Very smooth.

Easy drinker, especially on a hot night.

Poured from a bottle into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass...

Appearance: Pours a slightly cloudy, golden color with about a half inch of head that fades nicely leaving behind a little bit of lacing.

Smell: Slightly sweet, slightly grassy, slightly yeasty...typical for the style.

Taste: Like the smell. Very typical of the style with nothing really standing out. A bit of sweetness up front, followed by some grassy and yeast flavors. Overall it is very well balanced.

Mouthfeel: A nice crisp and refreshing feel. Goes down smooth and easy. Perfect for a warm summer night.

Drinkability: Sierra Nevada does it again...this beer is quite good. I will admit, this is not my favorite style of beer (so my review may not capture all that is this beer). But from what I can taste, it is very good. I can see myself picking up more of this.

12 oz bottle into a pint

A - Pours a light golden color. Very hazy - yeast suspension is apparent. Head formation is very vigorous, light white in color.

S - Excellent hefe nose, with lots of clove and banana notes. Very estery. Yeast is the most dominant characteristic.

T - Starts off somewhat subdued with a light malt sweetness that immediately takes off with banana and clove notes. No hops presence. Very spicy. Finishes with a combination of malt sweetness and yeast astringency, backed up by a subtle yeast breadiness.

M - Carbonation does have a little bit of bite, inline for a hefe. Body of the beer is strong, indicating lots of unfermentables.

D - Extremely drinkable as a summer beer. Very refreshing spicing and fruity notes fit well with the season. ABV is right in line for sessioning. Carbonation is not filling.

Extremely pleased with this offering - a hefe that would rival the traditional German offeirngs.

A-Looks the part...glowing golden color...nice frothy white head..

S-More wheatiness than easters...mild bubble gum and cloves...aroma is weakest part of this beer..also detect a sublte rotten egg smell but it is very light

T-Nice flavors...not great...bubble gum..cloves...a little vanilla and banana...some lemons as well...everything is balanced and never prominent by itself.

M-Perfect weightiness...not too big to drink a couple thirteen fourteen but also not so light it feels like Mich Ultra....exactly how a hefe should feel...creamy texture..

D-This is the third time I have had this...the first time was in a 3hefe blind taster and I had this third behind Dancing Man and Schells....thought it was good but not as good as those....the second time I had it was the next night by itself followed by Schells and I thought this was much better....today I am kind of in between...it's good...I don't know that it is great...I will drink again and possible change this review when I have a cleaner palate if it is necessary..I love the fact a quality brewery is doing a nice hefe...I just don't think it is top of the class like some do

Bottle into Sam Adams lager glass.

Pours a pale straw, very cloudy with a healthy, finger-and-a-half fluffy white head with excellent retention. Top notch.

Nose is full of clove, some banana, and some prominent zesty wheat. Really fantastically done nose - one of the best I've tried on an American Hefe. Every element is there, but none of them are the least bit fake or overdone. Very nice.

Taste matches up nicely with the smell - notes of vanilla and banana link up with the spicy, tangy clove and wheat notes to produce a nice, refreshing, thoroughly enjoyable and authentic hefe. Finish is packed with phenols and is quite tangy. Again, the wheat presence is prominent enough to not let the flavorful yeast take over. Balanced and well done.

Mouthfeel has the soft, crisp, lush feel you get from the best hefes.

Drinkability is excellent - flavorful but not overbearing, each sip leading into a craving for the next. Top notch.

What a perfect hefeweizen, a rarely great American brewed version. Looks absolutely perfect sitting tall in my new Prima Pils conical shaped glass. Clouded sunshine golden defines the body, while a pillow of cloudy white forms thick and resilient with the head. Thank the beer gods that they 86'd that Sierra Nevada Wheat with no character. Aroma has strong bubblegum and clover accents with a rolling herbal presence with each sniff. Pleasant citrus and wheat malts adds to the effervescent and purely enjoyable qualities that this brew has to offer. A perfect blend of citrus sweet spice and wheat malt collide with light herbal hop edges to massage all of the complexities to flourish together. Mouthfeel is perfect lighter bodied with bubbly champagne like carbonation flowing nicely. Drinkabiliy is excellent especially for the summer months one of those brews that I will have to secure a whole case of before going anywere on a vaction. Super fresh offering and low abv with mad complexity what an excellent revenge.

12 oz. into a weizen glass

P: Cloudy orangish gold with one of the best-looking heads I've come across in a while! The huge, white crown of healthy foam is ultra-thick, sturdy as can be, and rocky as hell with excellent retention. Forms huge muffin tunnels and gigantic dimples as it sinks to reveal a thick sheet of lace all over the glass. Excellent!

A: Huge waves of ripe bananas, tons of cloves, wheat malts, and some herbal hops. Really nice aroma that drew me in from the first whiff.

T: Wheaty, cracker-like malt is at the core while the palate is greeted with some lemony bitterness at first sip. Banana is layered throughout, but stays pretty subdued in relativity to the rest of the flavors. The clove, though, is great! They combine with the herbal hops to put this one firmly on the spicy, herbal side of the hefe spectrum as opposed to the fruity side, as the hops deliver a nice little spicy kick on the crisp, dry finish. Nice and sublte, but very well put-together.

M: Light-bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation that adds some fluffiness to the already airy, crisp feel.

Notes: Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of wheat beers, but this is good! I love the spice & herb combo going on here, but I do wish the banana flavors were a little more pronounced on the palate, mainly because they tasted so delicious. I actually did a side-by-side with this and the Franziskaner Hefe-Weiss, and it held its own even though I would prefer the Franziskaner. But, considering that one came from the motherland of wheats, I was impressed.

Appearance: Thisbrew pours with moderate head with average retention. No lacings. Color is a nice hazy honey. Not bad.

Smell: Aroma is soft. Banana and bread. Perhaps some very minor clove.

Taste: Flavor is a little more authoritative in presence than the aroma. Interesting flavor transitions during curve progression. Initial flavor has a little acidic bite. Followed by malt and banana. Sustain is rather clean with some bread notes. Interesting combination & transition of flavors.

Mouthfeel: Clean on the tongue and palate. Little to no aftertaste. No cloying sweetness. Very well accomplished.

Drinkability: Light and airy. The sweetness is not cloying. Enjoyable. An excellent drink on a hot day by the pool.

Had a couple of bottles earlier today.

A) Completely hazy straw-colored with nice sudsy white head which lasted forever and left small traces of lacing

S) At first the wheat, yeast, and lemon stood out, but then banana and cloves came through. Very pleasant.

T) Extremely well-balanced to me. Wheat and banana stand out, with undertones of spice, cloves. Ends on a sweet note, but definitely not too sweet.

MF) The bottle describes this as "velvety" which is accurate. Smooth, soft, and well carbonated.

D) Very high. Awesome on a hot day after walking around outside. I had to make myself not down them too quickly. But with 4.8%ABV this is safe to have a few.

Another nice one from SN.

A: Pours a very hazy dark yellow-orange, topped with a tall, dense, frothy and rocky off-white head. Retention is very nice, with thick halos of lacing left along the top of the glass.

S: A solid peppery, yeasty twang in the nose. Firm notes of just-ripened banana and clove. Herbal hop notes along with some faint bubblegum aroma.

T: A tart, wheaty snap up front. The banana flavors are quite appealing without dominating completely, allowing spicy flavors of white pepper and clove to shine through. A definite grassy/herbal hop character here. Bitterness is moderately firm for the style, although still light in the grand scheme of things. Slight hints of bubblegum and mild citric tartness.

M: Slightly full-bodied, with moderately lively carbonation lending a measured soft creaminess overall. Some dryness into the finish. Refreshing, to say the least.

D: I'm very impressed with this hefeweizen. This is definitely the best widely-distributed American hefe I've tasted thus far. Drinkability is nearly ideal - certainly hits the spot on a muggy evening like tonight. Will definitely be drinking again in the future.

It's 90 degrees here, and I need something fitting.

A: Hazy yellowish orange with a 4-finger thick snow white head, this is a pretty good looking beer. Plenty of carbonation, this looks like the real deal

S: Smells like it too. A big aroma of banana with some clove and sweetness. Bready and doughy with a sweetness reminiscent of ripe oranges, this is excellent

T: Opening up with a combination of citrus and wheat, this is very refreshing. The banana character follows through and is surprisingly muted given how prominent it is on the nose. The mid palate is a little disappointing in that it's slightly watery, but a dry, citrus finish is excellent

M: A little lighter than I'd like (maybe I've gotten used to some decoction-mashed hefeweizens?), this beer is also not as crisp as I'd expect it to be. Great finish, though.

D: The low ABV and excellent flavors make for one very drinkable beer, ridiculously so.

Appearance: pours a hazy dark golden yellow color with a 3" head that lasts forever. Nice lace develops in my hefeweizen glass.

Smell: banana, wheat, and some yeast spice easily rise from the glass into the nose.

Taste: mildy grainy wheat base with some banana, clove, and a nice yeast spiciness. Bitterness is mild but nicely balancing.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp at the start, lightly crisp and dry at the finish. Aftertaste is long and dry as the flavors hang in the mouth.

Drinkability: simply superb. After my third bottle it was hard to end the session. A very enjoyable beer from SN.

Per the instructions on the bottle, I poured 2/3 swirled and then poured the rest into a pint glass.

A - Very cloudy golden orange body and bright white foamy top.

S - Banana and spice up front with yeast/bread in the back. Sweeter than I thought it would smell.

T - Banana bubblegum flavors make me wonder why I haven't had a hefe in so long... Solid wheat backbone and dry yeast finish. As it warmed, I noticed more apple flavors.

M - Lighter than it looks and with good carbonation.

D - Very high. Moderate ABV and you could serve with anything...

A: Hazy yellow golden in color. Pours to a fluffy two-finger head.

S: Subtle spicy yeast smell. A hint of banana.

T: Some hints of banana with spicy yeast. Solid example of wheat beer should be.

M: Crisp up front. Cool, crisp and refreshing finish.

D: A nice wheat beer and summer treat. Relatively low alcohol makes this one easy to enjoy more than one without sacrificing taste.

Served: in a Wiezen glass.

12oz bottle poured in a standard pint-glass a hazy pale yellow with a decent frothy off-white head that slowly diminishes to a thin layer and leaves slight lacing on the glass. Aroma is a nice amount of sweet fruits, malts and bubblegum with slight hop presence. The taste is loads of classic hefeweizen regulars such as sweet fruits and bubblegum with just a hint of the textbook Sierra Nevada hop presence. The beer is quite light, crisp and refreshing, as the style should be. This is a very enjoyable summer brew, one of the best hefeweizens I've had yet.

Cloudy, almost opaque burnt orange with a foamy off-white head.

Spicy goodness. There's some banana, clove, some grains, and a touch of lemon.

Crisp citrus on the tongue with a good spicy wheat flavor and a touch of the banana.

Medium on the mouthfeel with a zesty carbonation.

I could drink these all night long. This has quickly become my second favorite hefeweizen behind Weihenstephaner, and even then its very close to that one. I recommend it to anyone any everyone who I talk to, and practically everyone who has then tried it loves it.

Picked up a sixer of this to restock some of my dailies in the fridge, just fresh out of Inversion and Torpedo so figured I'd roll with the Kellerweis. Served into my Hefeweizen glass from the bottle.

Appearance: Orange-yellow, but is pretty filtered, which is just a bit disappointing for me. I like a cloudier, unfiltered Hefe, but its color was certainly not bad. Good, thick white head and fluffs up nicely with a solid pour.

Smell: Citrus is present, but banana is probably the most pertinent fragrance. I smelled a little clove and a hint of peach / apricot, maybe just a little vanilla.

Taste: Yum, a tasty little Hefe. Got very little bitterness to it and a lot of flavor, with a little wheat and grassy-ness to it, but main flavor comes from the citrus and banana in the nose, making for a bit of sweetness. Lively finish too, never alcoholic or bitter, and for such a little beer ABV wise, it packs pretty refreshing and tasty notes.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and light, with a nice clean finish. Wheat is left in just a slight amount, but other than that it's very clean and easy-going.

Drinkability: Almost a 5, but just a little sweet for the long-run in some ways, but very pleasantly surprised with this. I've always been a pretty big fan of Sierra Nevada, from their Summerfest, Torpedo, and Pale Ale, this is no exception: a solid, tasty, and refreshing summer beer that simply begs for an outdoor sessioning.

Served in a pint glass. Pours a cloudy golden almost orange color with a thick and dense off-white head that reduces to a decent film with thick lacing.

Aroma is thick with bananas and wheat yeast and cloves. Flavor is more of the same with the banana and clove asserting themselves. Carbonation is high and the beer as a somewhat creamy character. There is a slight dryness and a touch of tartness that leave you wanting more. A great beer.

poured into pint glass

A - very hazy off gold color, 2 fingers worth of white head, fluffy almost feel like laying my head on it, good lacing

S - lemony, lots of yeast, some bubble gum and banana

T - lemon and citrus, wheat comes at the end to some out

M - great carbonation, light bodied but full tasting

D - worthy of buying in 6 packs, esp during the summertime, hits all the essentials of a quality hefeweizen and its not even German, another knockout from Sierra Nevada outside there usual hoppy beers

S-Spicy banana and clove. Very robust and appealing.

T-Following the nose, lots of banana and spice notes, a bit sweet and also a bit tangy.

M-Medium bodied with a richer than expected texture. Very nice.

12 oz. bottle poured into a mug.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy pale apricot color. Big white head; doesn't last too long bug becomes a good film. Very little lacing.

Smell: Banana bread aroma with a hint of cloves and lemon.

Taste: Lots of fruit (banana, pear, apple) and bready flavors. Some citrus comes in towards the finish and there's a nice wheat flavor in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Light feel but definitely has substance. Refreshing mild carbonation, and pretty smooth too.

Drinkability: Easy to drink and refreshing too!

By far the best non-German Hefeweizen I've had -- this actually tastes like a Hefeweizen! It is missing some of the crispness and I personally think it could do with a few tweaks to the flavor (like losing some of the lemon in the aftertaste). But, really, this was a great surprise.

Poured into a wheat glass opague orange with a thick white head. Minimal lacing, but the head lasts all the way down the glass. I'm affraid my nose isn't working this month, but scent isn't too terribly strong. From what I can tell there's a good amount of orange peel scents. The taste backs that up with orange taste that flows into a yeast/bread flavor. The mouthfeel makes this a very drinkable hefe, one of the better session hefe's out there.
