Into a pint glass.

Pours a clear golden yellow with thin film head. Quickly reduced lacing with bubbles rising.

Smells of clove, banana, wheat, and clean lemon.

Great mouth feel medium body and bubbly. Wheat carries the banana and bitter with moderate lemon juice. Finishes with clove, dry touch of bitter and citrus. Also a touch of pepper spice.

More orange juice flavors as it warms up.

Good American Hefe! Would make this a regular for the style.

First review! Just poured into 16 oz. glass, here we go!

Appearance: Golden haze, half inch head that quickly recedes, lot of carbonation bubbles. Definitely the look of a Hefeweizen.

Smell: Banana hints up front, some orange zest, fruity but not overbearing, yeast also present, a very inviting aroma.

Taste: Now that's a tasty Hefe! Wheat and yeast on the initial sip, followed by banana and orange flavors that linger on the palette. I dig that the prominent banana flavors and how they contrast with the yeast, a nice balance. Easy going down, yeast and wheat become more present as the beer warms.

Mouthfeel: Medium to high carbonation. Light on the palette.

Overall: Sierra Nevada can sure make some good brews. A solid take on the style, definitely an under-appreciated beer as far as publicity goes. Would definitely recommend.

Full disclouse: The traditional Hefeweizen is one of my least favorite styles. I am trying to be very objective with this one. It is one of the most unique Hefs I've tried and is significantly spicier than, say, Paulaner or Weihenstephaner. For me, that makes it a little more interesting and easy to get through. It also paired nicely with a caprese salad - the basil in particular. Sierra Nevada is mostly known for its tremendous & hoppy pale ales, but as this beer (and others too) show us, there's plenty more to the brewery.

The beer pourse out into a Duvel glass a nicely hazed amber color with a 1/2" white head that recedes to an irregular thin layer of foam, leaving speckles and legs of lacing. Sipping creates sheets, legs and small patches of foam.

The aromas include the grain and a touch of clove.

The flavors are lighly sweet and mostly clove with little or no banana showing but the profile is a bit on the "thin" side (as though there's something missing).

The mouth feel is medium to light bodied with persistent gentle carbonation. But it seems lacking and a little too light bodied.

For me this is a nice American brewed hefeweizen since it shows a lot of gentle clove without much noticable banana and that's where my preference lie. Had it before, expect to have it again. Worth a try, although not my first choice.

12oz bottle poured into a weizen glass. Bottled May 23 2012.

A: Pours a hazy light golden with a one finger white head. Head sticks around for a minute before disappearing. Some pretty serious carbonation visible in the body.

S: Loads of yeast and light malts. Wheat and a hint of banana.

T: Nice banana notes, good belgian yeast. I like the wheat characteristics. A bold hint of orange. I like the malt aftertaste this leaves.

M: Light body with good carbonation and a nice crisp finish.

Overall a great beer in the Sierra Nevada line up that is easily overlooked. Need to look for this when its fresher.
