Golden yellow color, hazy, with a pillowy thick white head. Aroma is a tasty wheat, with a hint of bubble gum. Flavor is fantastic; the best American version of a Hefeweizen that I can recall tasting. Primarily yeast and wheat, with a little spiciness and bubble gum flavor. Incredibly easy drinking beer; a great summer choice.

Poured into a pint glass, creamy, white head stays on top. This weis is a hazy dark yellow, almost orange. The aroma is spicey, clovey, citrusy, with some bananas thrown in there.
This is one smooth beer! Classic banana esters hit the palate at first, opening into a creamy, clovey sort of flavor. The finish ends with a crisp note, not cloying at all. The body is smooth and creamy, and full, with surprisingly moderate carbonation.
Overall drinkability is very high. This is for sure the best american-made hefe I've had. Very full flavor but balanced well enough to enhance drinkability.

A hazy banana cream pie yellow color with a meringue like head of fluffy white foam.

Heavy wheat smell with an addition of lemon zest and clove.

Banana cream pie, crust included, along with lemony citrus and clove. Nice complexity and depth of flavor.

Very creamy mouthfeel. Light-medium feel, very smooth and very dry.

Awesome example of the style. One of the best I've had. I will have to reach for more of this with the approaching of summer.

A - Pours a beautiful golden yellow, with a thick white head, and cloudy with lots of yeast.

S - Sweet, citrus, "summer"

T - Citrus, mostly lemon, sweetness but not cloying, tiny amount of hops.

M - Light-medium, not to much carbonation so as to make the mounthfeel sharp, just enough.

D - I could drink about 100 of these. Well done Sierra Nevada.

Pours a cloudy light golden brownish color with a big head that hangs out for a while and leaves some good lacing. The smell is heavy on the banana, wheat, and yeasty scents. Huge grainy wheat taste, very refreshing, bananas, and spice, very good balance. Mouth feel is soothing with a nice prickle from the carbonation. Very drinkable and refreshing for a 90% out door jam session the other day, and great for winding down after a long day today. Sierra Nevada has yet to disappoint, still eagerly awaiting the Celebration release this year!

Pours an opaque cloudy orange amber with billowing dense white head and thick lacing. Smell: sweet banana upfront followed by cloves and wheat cracker. Taste: soft ripe banana and a bit of not-quite-ripe banana, cloves, lemony wheat, bready. Mouthfeel: solidly medium bodied, fairly active carbonation but maybe not as much as others, soft and creamy. A definite yes.

I really really like this beer. It might not be the prettiest pouring beer out there but you can not deny its taste. It pours a murky yellow almost orange color with a white head and as following directions it has some sediment falling to the bottom which kind of looks kind of gross. Taste is anything but gross as this beer has a spicyness surounding a nice wheat flavor. Smell is a nice boquet of spices almost like one those spice candles. The beer has a medium body and perfect carbanation. This beer goes down very easy and is perfect for events that involve sitting back and relaxing.

I have had this one before and gave it a 4.5 but wanted to do a full review to see if it held up. Outstanding appearance, almost perfect for a wheat to me. Murky with an outstanding head that sticks around and grabs the glass. Excellent smell also, wonderful hefe odor. Sierra Nevada nailed this one, I tend to like Hefeweizen's and this is a very good one, easy to drink and very tasty. Will certainly buy this one many times.

A: Pours a cloudy yellow/orange color. A huge frothy and rocky white head rises to over two fingers. Sticky spiderweb looking lace is left behind.
S: Yeast, lemon zest, banana, and spicy cloves. Floral, grassy, hay aromas. Really inviting.
T: Follows the nose. Banana and spicy clove is up front. Floral and grassy. A very soft, smooth, and subtle flavor that really works.
M/D: A little lighter body than I thought it would be. Medium carbonation, which I like. Very easy and smooth to drink. A refreshing sessionable beer.

I really like this. Lots of flavor. Not over carbonated which I like. To much prickly carbonation usually makes Hefeweizen's unappealing to me. This is very refreshing, and something I would recommend. One of the better American made versions.

This was a beer I've wanted to try since it's release and unfortunately just got around to now.

The wait was well worth it.

A - Straw golden yellow color. Fluffly inch head. Quickly dissipates to a small white ring around the top of the beer.

S - The smell was actually a bit of a turn off to me. The smell was really just, ehh. Kind of a wet rotting leaf smell, mixed with banana. Seriously, the best way I can describe it is during autumn when it rains and all the leaves on the ground just get soaked and damp. Yeah.. that's the smell.

T - Thank god the taste is a hell of a lot better than the smell or I'd have trouble stomaching this one. (It's rare in my experience that it actually happens like this too.) Banana and clove dominate the taste. You can taste a hint or lemon, or my mind could just be playing tricks on me. I would have prefered to have a stronger banana taste, (even though it dominates the taste it doesn't really smack you in the face like you'd want) It's more of a dull banana taste, although not the least bit bad.

M - A very thin almost watery style too it. Very crisp though.

D - I won't even beat around the bush and say yeah.. pretty good session beer. YOU CAN POUND THESE. I could sit here and drink these all day long.. if they didn't have alcohol in them that is.
But definitely very very drinkable. I'm convinced that even a beer drinker wouldn't taste this beer and spit it out and say disgusting. It's that good.

One of my favorite beers.

A - Pours a hazy golden yellow with a 2cm white head that falls away fairly quickly.
S - Clove spice and banana.
T - Clove spice and banana like the smell as well as malted wheat.
M - Lighter side of medium bodied with a high carbonation level.
D - A very nice, sessionable Hefeweizen.

Poured into my regualr 22 oz mug.

A: poured right out of the frig into said mug, poured a nice 3 inch high creamy head, on top of a yellow cloudy in color beer, looks just like it should look, its a hefeweizen in the true sense.

S: First thing that hits me is the wheat and malt. Letting it warm up some to finish. OK you get the clove and wheat, with some hops, a tad bit of the old banana, something else but I be dammed if I can figure it out just yet. Maybe citrus.

T: Very nice taste, wheaty and hoppy, with a nice coriander like clove taste, with like a banana bready finish.

M: smooth and creamy, light to medium body

D: easy to session this beer, very drinkable.

I think this is my first American Hefe, that is almost perfectly a German hefe.

12oz bottle poured into a Weizen Glass. Served with my new top secret burger creation. All I'll say is that it involves my uncle's homemade Capicola!

A: Finger and some of white, bubbly head. Dissipates fairly quickly, but leaves a thin fluffy top. Has hazy golden hue with loads of carbonation. Lacing is great as well.

S: Mild spiciness. Some clove, banana, pepper, and orange-lemon sour notes. Also present is crisp graininess.

T: Much like the smell, you get a great balance of spicy banana, lemon and wheat. Not too much of anything though. Hops come into play towards the back end and really make this beer work. Very nice.

M: Medium-light bodied. Carbonation is spot on and feels great going down.

D: An amazing session beer. I could knock back a six pack of these no problem, especially at 4.8%.

A great American take on a classic German style. The balance is key for me on this. Just enough banana, spiciness and wheat to make a great foundation. I'll be revisiting this soon while the weather is still nice and warm.

Sierra Nevada Kellerweis pours out beautifully. Gorgeous looking in the glass with a nice hazy yellow-orange body. Ample head, and fluffy lacing. Aroma is clean, but still packed with cloves, banana, and sweet citrus. Taste follows suit of the aroma, except with a bit more spiciness pronounced. Starts out with a greatly intense blending of flavors - bubblegum, hints of clove, citrus, and banana. Sweet bubblegum esters present themselves upfront and meld with the light toasted breadiness of the malt to create a complex backbone. Citrus notes soon follow and are juicy up front, and gradually fade to tangy near the finish. Hints of clove provide just a hint of spiciness. Fruit esters including banana, tend to pop up more near the middle, and stick to your palate for the finish leaving your mouth coated with a great citrus fruity tropical finale, with ample chewiness, leading to a big full bodied mouthfeel. All the flavors seem spot on, and exactly where and expect they should be. Kellerweis can't really be flawed, it's just an exceptional amazingly drinkable brew. I love most of Sierra Nevadas lineup, but this is one of their better basic brews. Puts almost any imported Hefe under the table, hell of a lot fresher too!

A- Pours a hazy gold, 1 1/2 finger of dense white head with a moderately slow dissipation time down to a ring thin ring around the glass with light lacing.

S- Banana bread, clove, bubblegum, lemon. This is an amazing example of the style. Light hop aroma.

T- No hop bitterness, same flavors come through as described in the smell.

M- Tingly carbonation but not overpowering, light-medium body.

D- Average ABV and no overly strong flavors make this very session worthy.

A - Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours cloudy gold with brilliant blonde highlights and a creamy, thick white head.

S - Sort of faint, yeasty earthy aroma with a note of spices wrapped in a fruity banana scent.

T - Really tasty. Clean, refreshing, crisp. Wheaty goodness, faint spices, and a nice banana/bubble gum fruity sweetness. Finish is slightly chalky.

M - Creamy, smooth.

I saw this at my local store and bought a six pack to try. I have always been a fan of SN products, but I am not a huge fan of Hefeweizens.

Anyway, poured from the bottle into a mug using the 2/3s technique specified on the bottle. The beer had a pillowy two finger white head. The beer itself was a very hazy yellow. The nose was sweet with bubblegum notes and banana notes. There was also some nice clove presence. The banana was most dominant in the taste. The bubblegum and clove were also there in nice balance. There was also some nice lemon flavor to brighten up hte drink. Mouthfeel was light bodied with a nice amount of carbonation. Drinkabnility was great. The low ABV and great flavor make this a sessiopnable beer ideal for summer.

Overall, the best Hefeweizen I have had to date and a great, drinkable summer beer.

07/13/09- Purchased at Safeway in San Mateo, CA.

Presentation- 12oz bottle with no visable freshness info. Poured into a random pint glass.

Appearance- Pale golden color with a bit of clouded appearance. 3/4 inch creamy head and some light lacing left afterwards.

Smell- Traditional notes of heavy clove, banana and a bit of bubble gum. Smells the part.

Taste- Quite a flavorful hefe. Lots of banana and lots of clove. Flavors are not lacking here. Bubble gum comes into play and is lasting. Intense flavors at times.

Mouthfeel- Wow, this is damn smooth and quite creamy. A lower carbonation level. Almost seems heavy, but it's not.

Drinkability- Quite impressive! Great flavors and tremendous mouthfeel. Winner winner chicken dinner!

Poured from the 12. oz brown bottle into a Weizen glass.

Kellerweis appears a brilliant hazy gold, with hints of copper and orange. The head is rather attractive at first, then mellows down to the sides with decent lacing.

The nose is spot in the banana and clove departments, with some nice citrusy notes as well. The aromas on this one are what I look for in a hefe, but there's nothing extra as far as I can tell.

Taking my first sip, I get a pleasant tangy flavour, followed by wonderful spice and bananas, with a sweet, slightly drying finish followed by apple and pear flavors. There's just enough hop bitterness at the end for me. Quite tasty.

The mouthfeel could be slightly better, maybe a little smoother, but the carbonation is absolutely perfect. In fact, the carbonation makes this one really drinkable.

This is a quite a nice Hefe, and is now my go-to hefe when I can't get to the beer store, or don't feel like spending that much dough. Good on you, SN!

Pours a dark golden wheat color, head was white and bubbly, decent thickness. Aroma was very apparent. A mix of sweet wheat, cloves, and bananas. Taste was similar to the aroma. A good amount of sweetness, but different kinds (banana and wheat). Clove taste was there going down. Good carbonation and body. Overall excellent taste and drinkability.

This is a great hefeweizen. Very balanced flavors between the cloves, banana notes, and citrus. IF you are looking for big malt or hops flavors, then look elsewhere, this is spices and finsihing flavors through and through. I'm very glad I gave this beer a try.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a glass.

A - Opaque, hazy golden with an off-white/tan head about two fingers. No lacing.

S - Smells mostly of clove, lemon, and honey. The bottle suggests banana aromas, but I did not find any. A bready-wheat smell.

T - A slightly bitter wheat with an additional bitter note from the clove. With each sip, the clove becomes more prevalent, and the sweetness of the banana finally shows through with an aftertaste that builds.

M - Mildly carbonated, good body. A silky brew that ends up finishing dry.

O - I would encourage anyone to try this beer, it's a top notch Hefe.

Being a Hefeweizen fan, I bought a 6-pack the first time it appeared at my local liquor store.

Appearance: Rich and cloudy looking, with the orange/yellow color distinct to unfiltered Hefs. Pours with a slight, frothy head.

Smell: Subtle, slightly bready with some distinct yeast. Nothing overpowering.

Taste: Like the smell, is definitively bready. Banana is very up front, and there is a slight hops bitterness which gently balances out the banana and cloves sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Crisp yet vaguely creamy. Slight tang.

Overall: This is an excellent American Hefeweizen. Flavorful without being excessively sweet. The notes of banana are very pleasant. Incredibly drinkable.

Absolutely loved this and I'm not big on hefeweizens. But I think it's mostly because craft brew in the U.S. don't do it well.

L; Hazy gold yellow masterpiece.

S; Floral notes and banana

T: Banana with some citrus notes in there. Light orange but mostly banana. Delicious.

F: Nice and creamy.

O: I'm so glad the sampler I picked up was relatively fresh. A little more than a month old. I had heard this was a good one and it's completely changed my mind about hefeweizens. Now if only I can find the german ones fresh. If there's a good date on this, I won't hesitate to pick this up. Delicious.

12 oz. bottle, poured into a .5 L weizen glass.

Beautiful hefeweizen yeast cloud suspended in a mustard yellow crayola body. Tall, thick, whipped, cumulonimbus slightly beige white head. Looks great! Heady nose of strong yeast, banana, clove, and a hint of bubblegum. The yeast twang has a slightly funky edge to it which I like. Sweetish wheat bread underneath.

Light wheat bread notes lead off, with a crisp fruit edge. Big yeast flavors follow. Mushy bananas and Cream of Wheat mix with the slightly funky, very bready yeast. Some clove spice in the finish along with a dash of citrus crispness. Full-bodied, protein-rich, wheat-y feel. Refreshing and delicious. A great American made Hefe!
