Huge white, creamy, frothy head that sticks all the way down the glass. Very cloudy grapefruit juice in appearance. Lots of bubble gum, banana, and clove, in the aroma and flavor. Medium thin body, average carbonation, and a little slick in the feel. Very pleasant brew.

Another style slayer from Sierra Nevada
Golden blonde body. Thoroughly hazed unfiltered look. Adorned with a neat stack of paper white foam. Dense and lasting like shave cream as it clings to the glass walls upon each sip.
Fruit gum and toasted wheat grain with clovey spices and a dash of banana peel. Funny my notes read more like some kind of funky bread recipe but in actuality a pretty tasty brew it does make for. Creamy and smooth with minimal bitterness. Touch of citrus peel noted.
Goes down super smooth. One of the better Hefe’s I have come across which isn’t saying a whole lot but hey.

L: Hazy yellow as per usual with your Hefeweizens, finger width white head.

S: Banana! Clove, coriander and allspice, and yeast.

T: Banana! Spice again and bready yeast. Sweeet and smoooth.

F: Medium bodied and super smooth.

O: Wow, this is very close to a quality German Hefe here.

Thought maybe it was a Keller style with a weiss mix or something. I was hoping to experience something original and different. The pour was promising. A small bit of sediment which is always nice esp for a hefe. Nice foam and body appearance for a genuine hefeweizen. Nose was not as promising. I smell a hurried produced beer with various smells that seem disconnected from each other. As if they were concocted. The taste was a let down primarily imo because it is similar to other American failed attempts at genuine German beer styles that I have personally drank since the age of 21. The mouth feel was lacking natural carbonation and lacking proper yeast flavor. Certainly some banana, wheat and spices, but not in a natural, carefully produced way. SN always produces a great pale but not hefeweizen and with a misleading name as Keller.

Hazy straw color, nice fluffy head. Spicy aroma. Some banana, clove, and wheat and malty taste. Pretty smooth, creamy feel with mild carbonation. Can definitely taste the Bavarian influence.

Sierra Nevada Kellerweis

This hefeweizen is Bavarian inspired and implements the brewing technique of open fermentation tanks where the yeast is allowed to breathe allowing it to react differently during the brewing process. Open fermentation provides unique characteristics to emerge from the aroma and flavor.

The hefeweizen, or weissbier as the Germans call it, is the most common variety of wheat beers where "hefe" means yeast while "weizen" means "wheat" and "weiss" means "white" while "bier" means...of course "beer." These beers typically reveal sediments of floating yeast in the bottom of the bottle or in suspension. Pour into a weizen glass to show off the immense amount of head traditional of wheat beers.

Be sure to pour 2/3rds of the hefeweizen into the weizen glass then swirl the yeast sediment in the bottle before pouring the remaining 1/3.

AROMA - spicy clove, yeast, hints of banana with a touch of orange and lemon peel,

APPEARANCE – unfiltered hazy golden straw hue with a white froathy head, massive amount of head with amazing head retention leaving behind a sizeable cap with streaks of thick lacing,

FLAVOR – strong banana bread presence, chalk-like yeast, tangy orange citrus, clove, slight banana sweetness, black pepper, bready malt, slight undertones of bubblegum, tart wheat finish

MOUTHFEEL – medium bodied with a moderate-high level of spritzy carbonation, smooth and creamy due to the yeast, allows for an easy drinking beer

OVERALL – an excellent example of a traditional German inspired American hefeweizen, classically simple as it focuses on the yeast and wheat characteristics, exceptionally balanced flavors

A: Pours very hazy gold with a frothy white head that settles to a light layer and leaves a little light lacing. I get the feeling mine was the first pour from the keg and extra hazy/yeasty. There actually was a small cone of yeast in the bottom of my glass as I finished my pint, but I'm not complaining.

S: Fruity, some spice, yeasty, wheat malt, and a little banana bread.

T: Fruity, actually almost plum like flavor, yeasty, clove spice, wheat malt, jut a hint of sweetness, and some banana on the finish.

M: Light to medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Not typically a go to style for me, but this was pretty refreshing.

Look: The beer is a golden hazy color with lots of carbonation. The had a head that lasted less then a minute but died down quickly to a thin layer that lasted the whole beer.

Smell: I get strong aromas of bananas and cloves. Not overly malty or hoppy but a nice under aroma of yeast.

Taste: I really enjoy this beer, I want to to describe it as an intense hefeweizen. I get a nice ueast flavor with a banana and clove flavor, followed with minimal bitterness

Feel: Short crisp and clean beer, nice carbonation.

I had this beer on tap at a local pub, so I don't know if it reflects the bottle version. To me, this "kellerweis" was atypical for a hefeweizen. Absent was the strong banana-bread characteristic I value in a great Bavarian weissbier. Bright golden, tart, light, and refreshing with sufficient yeastiness, this was an enjoyable drink. But it lacked the flavor complexity of the best representatives of this category - e.g. Schneider's Aventinas. Reviewers who claim this beer has strong banana notes really need to do a side-by-side comparison with some of the more robust, flavorful hefes.

Very good, solid effort recreating a Bavarian Hefeweizen. Aroma is traditional for this style. Flavor and body are very close, but just a tad lacking - in complexity and depth. Still, really good stuff.

Pours hazy cloudy gold with a frothy white foam head. Smells like banana bread, bananas, vanilla, wheat, clove spice, herbal pine, earthy grass, orange citrus, with toasty grain. Tastes like orange citrus, herbal pine, banana, banana bread, earthy grass, vanilla, wheat, spicy clove, with toasty grain. Feels medium-light bodied, creamy with moderate low carbonation. Overall a nice hefeweizen.

Poured a 12 oz bottle with a bottling date of Dec 2015 into a Weisen glass. The beer presented a slightly hazy gold color with a one finger head that quickly dissipated and left little to no lacing. I detected a slight aroma of yeast with some overtones of spice. On the palate I only detected very slight hints of banana and this may be due to the beer being beyond its shelf life. In spite of being beyond the optimum shelf life I did taste distinct flavor of clove. It had a nice mouthfeel and a pleasant level of carbonation. I will definitely try this one again this time checking the date beforehand. Rookie mistake.

A: Bright yellow gold - crystal clear - pours with a medium-large, bright white head, fades to a nearly solid cap and a medium collar, leaves streaks of lacing

S: German hefe yeast and wheat - interesting yeasty aromas, including ripe banana, bubblegum, phenols, pepper, and some clove - pale malts and light bread - wheaty, like a box of cereal - some earthiness

T: Simple in a very good way - yeasty flavors, with some straight-up yeast, banana, bubblegum, and black pepper - some light fruitiness and hint of citrus - nice malt base, with some pale malts, pale grains, light bread, wheat, and whole-wheat bread - minimal bitterness - finishes dry and clean

M: Medium body, medium carbonation, crisp, clean finish

O: I recently offended myself when I discovered I never reviewed this beer

Seriously. I've had Kellerweis on more than one occasion. It's an easy-drinking hefe that also stays true to its roots. Kellerweis is not the first thing I think of when I think Sierra Nevada, but they do a good job on the style, just as they do with just about every style in existence.

This beer pours a hazy light golden color with a very small bright white head. Retention and lacing are both next to none. Smell is crackery malt, with some spices and a hint of banana. Taste is similar, but much more pronounced. The banana and clove really come through much stronger and the malt takes a back seat. Feel is light, crisp and very refreshing. Carbonation is perfect. Overall an excellent beer. Sometimes the clove flavor can be too much for me in hefeweizens, but this is spot on.

The banana bread flavor was a bit more than a hint, yet fit perfectly with style and tradition of a Bavarian-style Hefeweizen. Crisp, bright and refreshing as a wheat beer should be. Cloudy and dark gold with fast rising bubbles. The scent threw me off because it was more clove than I really expected. Overall, the best Hefeweizen I've ever pleased my palate with.

This hefe pours a slightly opaque, dark golden color with a medium white head that quickly dissipates. The smell is bready and faintly of banana. It’s definitely a little less fruity / spicy smelling then most hefes. The flavor is bready with more of the banana and clove typical to hefes than the smell would have me believe. The aftertaste has a little more hop character than the typical hefe, which is to say there is a detectable hop character, but it’s not at all outrageous. Sierra Nevada really loves their hops. The finish is really nice and crisp though. This is actually a surprisingly good hefe from a mass producing brewery. It’s not as good as the big time German hefes, but it’s better than most others that I’ve tried.

Easily one of my favorite Hefeweizen's that I've had. Takes a little more work to swirl the goodness that lays at the bottom of the bottle, but well worth the effort. Preferred with a wedge of lemon but I wouldn't avoid this if I was out of lemons! My go-to Hefe!

Granted, this beer was from a 12 pack which I purchased last summer, but it's been stored cool and in the dark. I did drink this last summer in our homebrew club for a weizen shoot out and it placed in the top 2 out of 8. This one pours out to a brilliantly vclear, however there is a nice slush of yeast at the bottom of the bottle. Forms a bone white head with good retention and lacing. Carbonation is moderate, about 2.5 carbs. The nose has the green bananas I would expect but also a bit of cat pee. Mouthfeel is soft, clean, medium light bodied. The taste opens with the green apple, then a nice wheat malt flavor shines through in the middle, very mild bitterness, a metallic character towards the finish and a seltzer like finish with a touch of crackers.

Been a long time since we've had this one. A nice hazy light amber pour with a generous head which fades to a light lacing. Aroma is warm bread dough yeast and bannana notes. Taste is an attempt at a traditional hefeweizen but comes up a bit short in our opinion. While not up in the range of a German hefe, it's a solid offering.

Pours a hazy, murky yellow with a thick foamy white head. Head retention is strong, with fair lacing left behind. Spicy yeast, coriander, cloves and wheat make up a simple, but startlingly German, aroma. Taste is very simplier, with banana, clove, coriander, wheat, and a bit of spicy yeast on the back. Delicious, and despite the long list of notes, is rather simplistic in it's flavor. Feel is smooth, medium-thin consistency, and exceptionally easy to drink - or gulp. Just a bit of carbonation harshness at the end. Overall, a sublime brew that is easy to gulp. It truly pleases. It would be at home enjoyed outside on a blisteringly hot summer day, or around a cool campfire in the woods. Yum.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

Excellent beer a nice golden slightly murky pour. Fresh pop of fruit in the nose. Slight graininess at first then the fruitiness hits you, banana and a bit of citrus to me with a little bit of clove there too. Very smooth very drinkable.

Impressive appearance, drops the traditional cloudy yellow with a solid 1" white head on it. Aroma a mixture of clove and banana yeast smells.

Taste still hits those banana and clove notes with a substantial amount of wheat in the mouthfeel, texture is almost gritty. Mild sweetness. Smooth. Bitterness in check, hop usage, for Sierra Nevada, is almost nonexistant.

Just a solid beer in a style I'm not usually down with, but this one is easily described as one of the best from any region.
