12oz->imperial pint glass

big bubbly foamy head coats this brew, it almost has an all natural apple juice look to it, the head is impressive and last somewhat and it's laces provide nice curtains down the side of the mug

nice malted wheat smell, toned down bananas and cloves, floral smell as well with a bit of citrus, mainly orange.

taste like it smells, nice hefe taste up front, lots of bready malts that linger, the blend is kinda all over the place

thick and creamy mouthfeel, almost a buttery effect

i am a fan of this beer but it did not meet up to expectations,
it's a different effort from sierra nevada, hardly no hops at all and i think thats what i was kinda hoping for. a hoppy weiss beer, this is not it.

Nice in the style hefeweizen from SN.

Pours straw colored and slightly cloudy with a nice head that dissipates slowly and leaves some lacing. Nicely carbonated.

Smell is at first banana with wheat and a light spice.

Taste is clove, light malt, wheat and maybe a little pepper.

Mouthfull is nice, light, almost thin with a faint bittering.

This is a very drinkable beer and perfect for a hot summer day!

12oz. bottle poured into a tulip glass. No visible bottled date except for random numbers.

(A)- Pours a hazy pale yellow color with a billowy white ample head with average retention. Tons of sticky lace.

(S)- Lots of lemony wheat with a light spice I cant pinpoint. Light orange citrus present.

(T)-Light bready wheat with ample lemon/orange fruits with a really crisp finish of bananna and light clove.

(M)- Smooth, crisp, and refreshing with good layered flavors. Great carbonation too.

(D)- A solid beer that is perfect for spring/summer. Definitely easy drinking that will quench any thirst you might have.

This beer popped up in my local stores about a week or two ago.. and SN has yet to disappoint me so have to give it a try. This is a great hefe right here, much better than the run of the mill one most breweries do to throw in their mixed 12 pack. This one seems a bit more citrus/lemony (along with the usual banana/clove flavors) than most Hefe's, but it's cool to have a little unique taste to it. Nice full body to it, nice and smooth finish and nice carbonation to it. A great refreshing beer to have on a nice/hot day... keep up the good work SN!

Serving: 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pour/Color: Poured a dark yellow/light orange with a heavy haze.

Smell: Strong clove smell, with some of the classic hefe banana.

Taste/Feel: Taste the clove with some banana/orange. Goes down easy...I could easily drink several in a sitting.

Overall a great American hefe without the imported hefe price tag. I would definitely purchase again.

pours a glorious head with great retention and a cloudy yellow color.

smell is of banana and clove with a touch of vanilla.

touch of malt sweetness. this reminds me of a dampf beer that I made with a good portion of munich malt. the banana and clove with some vanilla comes out. The balance of clove, banana, and vanillas is heavenly. I really want them to come out just a bit more though. hop bitterness is low, minimal grassy and citrusy notes

good malt sweetness and fullness on the palate with good crispness.

not bad at all. very complex but it could be a little more intense in the esters for my personal tastes.

A very hazy dark yellow body that borders on being an orangish color in the center. Huge, rocky, bone-white head. Good retention, good lacing, good looking beer.

The smell also has all the traits of a German hefeweizen. Lots of Banana, some pepper, wheat, very phenolic.

The hefeweizen yeast and the wheat body are doing their jobs in Kellerweis. Fruity banana is probably the prominant flavor here, but a touch of lemon peel compliments it along with some bubble gum notes. The finish has a big pepper or coriander like flavor that is quite nice. The malted wheat is in the background throughout. Peppery flavors stay strong in the after taste.

The body is very thin, maybe just a touch too thin. Moderate carbonation.

This is a very drinkable hefeweizen that is definitely made to style. Also, the price is great. In New York I've been picking it up for 7.49 a sixer (on sale I guess), and in PA it runs about $33 a case. This is a great buy.

This brew looks like a great choice for August!

A cloudy, straw-gold color, fast bubbles, 3" deep, wild-frothy all-white head with tinges of yeastie goodness mixed around at the top. Semi-sticky lacing, slow dissipation.

There's a Belgian-yeastie aroma upfront, a Belgian wit comes to mind with cloves, banana, and honey in the light malt. Gentle fruits pop out later and musty hops.

This is a crispy, light malt with dry wheat, light citrus notes, musty herbs and tangy red fruits. Pretty dang earthy, bring it on!! a dry and smooth feel makes this a great thirst quencher with plenty of complexity to keep it interesting.

This seems like a hybrid of sorts to me, with traditional Hefe flavor's but also a complex, snappy yeast brings in a Belgian effect. I'm not complaining!

Appearance: Poured a honey color, with half-finger foamy white head. Ever so slightly cloudy, almost clear. No sediment or yeast in the glass, but plenty in the bottom of the bottle. Head retention is okay, reducing to a thin layer. Visible carbonation. Some lacing, but not overwhelming.

Smell: Smells of banana and bubblegum. Some wheat malt down deep. Subdued spices (cinnamon and clove) and mild sweetness. Very fresh, very appealing.

Taste: Light wheat malts and subtle banana flavors. Just the right amount of sweetness and mild spices.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a little carbonation bite up front. Very smooth and easy to drink. Flavors linger well.

Drinkability: An excellent Hefe; might actually be my new favorite. Perfect combination of freshness, flavor, and easy drinking, while remaining completely true to the style. Very refreshing. A must try.

When poured, the color was of a hazy lemon yellow, with very little foam, but some lace retention. The smell of cloves and citrus was very evident, with a hint of a yeasty nature. The taste of cloves, yeast, wheat and lemon citrus was pleasant, I could not pick up the banana flavor. Nicely balanced fruit and spices to make this Kellerweis Hefeweizen very exceptable on the palate.

poured into hefe glass. pours extremely cloudy, opaque cloudy, yellow straw color. huge creamy white head with great retention. good lacing as while.

in the aroma you get that traditional hefe yeast, banana, clove, bubblegum. citrus, sweet, wheaty malt.

in the taste you get a lot of clove, bubblegum, bannana, citrus, orange, some sweet malts, all over balanced typical hefe.

light mouthfeel, great creamy refreshing mouthfeel. velvety as said on the bottle. great drinkability for the summer. nice sessionable beer.

Sampled on 8-17-09
Bottled on day 189 of 2009.

Pours about as cloudy as it gets, with a great pale dark yellow color. A filmy head leaves thin but pleasant lacing.

Smell is all wheat, very fruity with just a hint of banana. Enjoyable, but with a bit too much beery edge.

Taste is alot like the smell, good, but nowhere near as complex as some of the better hefes. The finish is light, and not too bready. Like a pale wheat ale without the hops.

Mouthfeel is good, spot-on for the style.

Drinkability is also good, very light with well managed sweetness.

Overall, a good beer, but not as good as I was expecting.

Poured into a weizen glass. Pours a cloudy, dark yellow color with a large white head that settles to a thick cap. Moderate amount of sticky lacing. The aroma is not that strong but it consists of typical hefe aromas of bananas and cloves. Nothing spectacular about the flavor. Mild bubblegum, banana, and clove flavors. A little sweeter than a lot of hefes I have had recently. The body is very underwhelming. Even for a low ABV session ale, I expect more then this watery texture. Adequate carbonation for the style. I was underwhelmed by this beer. After drinking a lot of some locally produced hefes, this just does not compete with them.

Served cold in a pint glass. As per directions, poured 2/3 into glass, swirled remainder to get the yeast in suspension, finished the pour.

This is a very hazy, cloudy yellow beer with the appearance of a pale cider. Thick head settles quickly leaving a skim layer on top.

Aroma is really pleasant with citrus, banana, and clove. Smells almost like a fresh fruit salad.

Flavor is very well done. It has a lemon citrus flavor with more banana and subtle spice. Overall sweet but balance comes from light hopping and spice.

Crisp, clean mouthfeel with good balance from mild bittering. Creamy smooth with just the right amount of carbonation. Great drinkability - this would make a fantastic summer session.

Overall a really impressive beer. I love that Sierra Nevada can create these exceptional beers, mass produce them, and have consistent high quality. Just goes to show, bigger breweries can still be great.

Ordered the on-tap version (at 33 in downtown Chico) just a few hours after I tried the bottled version for the first time.

Served in a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Cloudy, goldenrod body with a white, creamy film coating the surface. Head leaves puffy dots of lace occasionally. (Hefeweizens aren't supposed to be sticky, so that's okay.)

Smell: Light wheat and prickly spice in the nose... and that's all. If I had to guess at the spice, I'd say coriander. The entire smell is very faint.

Taste: Lots of banana and spice: coriander and white pepper to be exact. The big wheaty back bone gives way to a lot more sweetness in this version. I remember the bottled version being stiffer and more wheat focused; this tap version is pretty damn sweet. Still good however.

Mouthfeel: The two versions (bottle and draft) are very similar here. This one's a bit pricklier, but other than that just read what I wrote below.

Drinkability: A nice hefeweizen, but I liked the bottled version much better. I've found a lot of the taps to be pretty dirty around Chico, and that might have been the case here. I'll have to try it again at the brewery to be sure.

thick head forms, then recedes to a thin layer on the beer. it is cloudy and straw yellow. the wheat is unmistakeable in the smell along with lemon and a slight hint of banana and clove. taste is lemon, some banana, a slight hint of the hops in the finish, but with it comes a delicious banana flavor. wow, i'm really impressed with this beer. mouthfeel is a bit chewey, nicely carbed. drinkability is insanely high.

L: Pours a golden yellow with a medium sized and light bodied fluffy white head that laces the glass nicely on the way down.
S: Smells of sweet wheat malts, some toasted malts, and a nice lemony-citrus aroma followed by a slight banana-clove aroma at the end of the nose.
T: Like the aroma, this one has a nicely balanced sweet wheat and toasted malt base underneath a nice citrusy flavor with only a hint of banana and clove at the end. I liked the taste a lot, this one was a nice surprise.
M: Very crisp, refreshing, prefect amount of carbonation.
D: Very drinkable beer, I would recommend this one.

Bottle poured into pilsner glass, proper hefe swirl and all.

Cloudy straw color with thick airy head that laces well throughout. Biscuity nose with a hint of clove, with clove more assertive in taste. Banana taste is more subtle than in most hefes.

Great mouthfeel; very drinkable, but hops a bit too crisp in the finish. Almost biting...

A good beer, I'll drink it again.

this beer poured gold in color immensely hazed with yeast and wheat. snow capped on top.

smells nutty, of bananas and cloves, and a "carbohydrate" like smell.

unripened bananas, sweetness, a hint of spice, and a hint of fresh lemons dominate the flavor profile. plenty of wheat coming through in the end.

crispy and very clean mouthfeel. refreshing summertime feel. smooth and drinkable for the long hours of the day.

pours out of the stubby bottle a hazed and sediment swished yellow-gold colour with a big creamy head which leaves lots of chunky lace. beautiful looking beer. aroma is a nice combination of spicy clove, vanilla and bubblegum esters...a good dose of that yummy banana, too. the taste is a wholesome conglomeration of wheat and lemon notes with a spicy kick that screams hefeweizen. it has a rawness about it that seems quite grainy and husky. the mouthfeel is all velvety and soft. body seems a touch heavier than it actually is, since it's incredibly easy to quaff. drinkability is great. a great summer time addition to my drinking lineup and a tremendous hefeweizen in it's own right.

definitely recommended. another great beer from SN.

Poured according to directions: 2/3s into a glass, stir up yeast and pour rest.

A - Very nice gold color and a nice big, thick head on it.

S - Beer-y sweet smell. Not terrible strong but very pleasant.

T - At first tastes very much like Hoegaarden to me. But I think with less sour tones than some of the Belgians I am familiar with.

M - Very nice and light, but with a nice crisp bite on the tongue.

D - This was the perfect beer after working up a little sweat on a 90+ degree day.

I picked up a sixer of this great beer at the Fresh Market in Madison. I was a little shocked to see it!

Poured into a Duvel glass this beer has a massive head. The rich cloudy color is accentuated when you follow the directions on the bottle when pouring, "pour 2/3 then roll the remaining 1/3 and pour vigorously." What follows is a dazzling array of cascading yeast with hints of clove and banana.

The aroma is a touch spicy (clove) and there is a sweet malty touch in there along with the typical banana.

The flavors are even better than the smells. The first taste is the intensely sweet malt, tons of bready goodness, and then quite an assembly of cloves, banana, and tropical fruit flavors.

Mouthfeel is rich and somewhat thick but sits great on the tongue. Surprisingly the heaviness of the mouthfeel is only a passing thought as the dryness kicks in and you feel refreshed.

With an abv under 5% you can drink quite a few of these with no problem. There are no harsh flavors, the finish is clean, and the beer tastes great. I would say this is about as drinkable as it comes.

A single 12 ounce bottle picked up at the Beer Stop for around $1.50. Poured into my standard half-liter hefe glass. After following the advice on the label and swirling up the yummies on the bottom of the bottle while pouring, the hefe appears a murky, cloudy bright golden straw yellow color with a good two fingers of bone white foam. Nose and flavors consist of fresh, ripe banana slices brushed with a good amount of lemon juice, wonderfully spicy yeast, fresh cracked black pepper, some clove notes, bready yeast, fresh wheat. Great creamy, nearly full (for a hefe) body with adequate carbonation. Well, it didn't take long for my glass to become empty. A fantastic, sessionable summer hefe. I'm going back for more...

12oz bottle poured into a shaped pint glass.

Sierra Nevada Kellerweis Hefeweizen poured hazy pale yellow with a massive bubbly head that quickly disappeared.

A strong banana smell popped during the pour, but gave way to yeasty clove smell and taste. The feel is dominated by too much sparkle that had a negative impact on drinkability.

To be fair, I'm not a hefe lover; however, as hefes go, Sierra Nevada Kellerweis Hefeweizen is on the mark.
