Pretty excited to give this one a shot, as it seems to be trending on BA right now, and the hop list is pretty nuts! Lots of new-school all-stars in there... but I'm also usually leery of "all-star" projects, at least when it comes to something like, say, music. Tons of talent, but no direction at times, am I right? Anyway, Dankful is an IPA that clocks in a bit higher than Torpedo on the ABV scale, but it also boasts significantly fewer IBUs than that beer. Perhaps this is a transition for SN into a more "aromatic," less "old-school" focus in their IPA oeuvre? Let's see...

Pours a hazier-than-expected (but still fairly-clear, all things considered) golden color with some burnished copper and orange-y highlights if held up to the light. Tons of hop particulate in the body, which has me excited. Head is sizeable and retentive, though it does eventually sink to a half-finger, leaving behind incredible legs and great lace. Some alright surface dynamics here, too. I never doubted SN when it comes to how their beers LOOK, though...

Nose is a bit rough and raw with a huge grassy component, some marijuana stems, pine, intense leafiness, and blonde tobacco-like (maybe?) earthiness mixed with a slight (but appreciable) vegetal note, likely from Equinox/Ekuanot. Some bright and expressive citrus running the gamut from grapefruit to mandarin orange, a hint of crystal (or maybe Vienna) malt, and a touch of light floral suggestions. Not bad at all. In fact, I actually like it quite a bit! The dry-hop feels adequate and fits most of the hops they chose.

Bright and snappy flavor profile with some real character... a hit of intense, oily citrus and floral/spicy elements right upfront followed by a touch of tannins (thanks Idaho 7!) and earthiness. Dankness in the mid-palate with some more spice and raw orange/tangerine complexity as the palate winds down after each sip. Strong bitterness without much linger. Light notes of white pepper and more tannins... almost has a "whiskey"-like element in the post-nasal, if I'm being honest. Spruce and more greenery with some hints of earthiness peeking out once again. Juicy and vivacious feel with low-medium carbonation and a heavier body that fits the ABV. Worth a drink for sure! Probably my favorite SN IPA in a while.

Can dated 090320 into a tulip glass.

L: Vibrant copper with nearly 2 fingers of variable density white head with good retention and left mixed lacing.

S: Resinous dank and pine, underlying subtle floral attributes gain prominence as it warms.

T: Follows nose quite well, hints of breadiness. Finishes with moderate bitterness that lingers pleasantly on the palate.

F: Medium bodied with Low-medium carbonation, silky on the tongue and swallow.

O: Drinks super smooth for a 7.4% IPA. Alcohol is very well integrated, though I'd love to see it closer to low 6s. It's an IPA that I can see buying a lot of in the Spring if Sierra were so inclined to make it a seasonal offering. But it will struggle to compete against the upper tier fresh hop brews right now for my preferences.

Deep gold, chill haze, clears as it warms, generous white head, superb retention, splotchy lace in abundance.
Dank is correct. There is also some pine and multiple varieties of citrus zest underneath. Great, prominent aroma.
Didn't think I'd ever say this about a beer, but weed taste is a bit much. There is pine and citrus zest underneath.
Medium bodied, appropriate carbonation, crisp, clean finish.
Really and truly, if I hadn't stopped smoking 15 years ago, this would've probably gotten 5s across the board.

Can packaged Oct 16

I think the term 'dank' is overused today and try to avoid this descriptor. However, the aroma on this fits the bill. It's truly marijuanesque. Thankfully these are fairly fresh cans so not sure how long this aromatic characteristic will be retained on older cans. The flavor is piney/resinous. Just enough malt presence but not too much. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky. Medium carbonation. This is a solid IPA with characteristics which are not very common these days (certainly not in as well executed IPAs as this one is). Highly recommended for WCIPA fans and those looking for a break from the haze.

Beutiful beer to look at in the glass, fairly aromatic with C hops and grains dancing around on the nose. Taste is good, however somewhat muted in flavors. To be honest it tastes pretty much like a higher ABV SNPA. Where Torpedo has a much sweeter and juicy flavor this beer is kinda muted. Still a good beer but was hoping for a little more pow in the tastes.

L- copper amber - great head and lacing. Best quality of the beer.
S- Pine resin and Earth. Danker as it warms.
T- ass end of Gaia earthy and a very bitter but too astringent taste. A little one dimensional but I like its FU attitude. Old school, y'all. Almost reminds me of Cumbre Elevated IPA pre-2014.
M - a little weird off kilter abv burn or gin like quality. Strange. Good carbonation though.
O - not my fave but really happy to find and try this new SN offering.

Had this on 2020-11-28 near Pittsburgh, PA from a 12oz canned on 2020-09-11

A - Somewhat-hazy, golden-orange with a 2-finger white head that sticks around leaving great lace.

S - Apricot, light pine, bread, very mildly dank.

T - Apricot jam on toasted bread. Plenty of pine. Finishes with orange and grapefruit bitterness.

M - Medium body and carbonation. Creamy then it dries out.

O - Quite tasty. West Coast IPA for sure and in my wheelhouse.

OMG, what's dank about this beer? It almost tastes like an boring NE IPA I don't even know if it's as good as some of those. Ok, it's not, this beer fucking stinks. On rye. I am so done with the state of boring craft beer this year, wait, I'm starting to get a little bite, wait ... I'll check the can date. thank goodness I only bought the one for $2.50 not the entire 6 pak for $14.

Here's hoping this year's Celebration (my first craft beer ever, a long time ago) is up to par. ridiculous.

12 oz can, canned on 9/3/20, into Boiler snifter.

Pours a purely gold body that's mostly transparent, with a tall west-coast style 3 finger head head leaving world class equidistant rings as it recedes.

Aroma is sweet and pungent. Some breakfast cereal, honey, caramel, orange blossom, and sweet grass.

Flavor is nearly palate wrecking, bringing heavy caramel malt and abrasive piney hops to start, but then it tapers off a little bit and softens into clove and orange candy. Sweet cereal, orange candy, ethanol, and abrasive piney hops remain on the finish.

Feel is light and effervescent but thickens up in a caramel-malt sort of way, and then numbs your tongue and destroys your palate. The alcohol heat is pretty abrasive as well.

Overall, this beer does not exemplify dank to me, it is more "pine, wood, lemon" type of flavors. It is too triple-west-coast-IPA to me to be enjoyable. Very palate scrubbing. Intense. Abrasive. No cannabis, no mushroom, no pleasantness at all. This is just pine sol in a can.

Price paid : $1.79 / can
Would buy again : no

12 oz can..."PKGD 9/11/20"

Pours out with a nice honey glowing hue, medium hazed, under a long lasting frothy cap, and ample strands and webs of thicker lacing.

Pungent hopped up nose.

West coast, old school, fresh, flavorful......delicious. Oozing with fresh hop notes, more on the grapefruit side of the citrus world. Mighty fine, worthy everyday kinda IPA...go get some

Pours a golden amber shade thumb sized off white head good lace.

Aroma is fruity and hoppy pear, grapefruit, light weed notes sprinkling of pine needles on a bready malt base.

Taste is like the nose not a bad IPA really but with the name they chose make the fucker really dank.

Mouthfeel is medium lightly peppy carbonation.

Overall not a bad IPA just was expecting more dankness.
