Clear dark gold with low effervescence and a half-finger of tan-tinted head. Decent retention and modest lacing.

Skunky aroma with grass, challah bread and some sort of vegetal herb note.

Bready tasting up front, with a weird fruity, herbal finish with hints of cherry and some sort of weird green liquor.

Medium bodied and sort of slick feeling. Low carbonation.

I’ve got eleven more bottles to try to put my finger on that fruity herbal note. Mahleb? Gentian root? Anise? Something.

Poured into a tall clear pint glass. Color is deep, dark golden with a finger and one-half of creamy white head, good retention and lacing.

Aroma smells sweet and subtly grassy. Notes of grass, tangerine and other hints of citrus, peach, dark fruit, ripe apples, tea leaves, and white wine/grapes.

Taste is more hoppy and bready than what the aroma suggests. Mostly earthy and doughy, toasted malts, along with some yeast as the main flavor composition. However, there are some other notes of champagne, pears, honey, faint lime, and caramel which in combination with the (subtle) aroma notes provide a complementary taste. Also tastes somewhat minty. Body is medium-light. Overall, pretty well-balanced and easy to drink.

Appearance: copper in color with a 1" head.

Smell: light toasted aroma with a hint of sweetness.

Taste: caramel, malt sweetness, and a bit of toasted bread. Mild citrus tones and a floral bitterness rounds it out.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp throughout with a somewhat clean aftertaste.

Overall: a tasty oktoberfest beer that goes well with grilled sausages.

12oz bottle x2

Pours two fingers of white head into my willi becher. I can hear it lightly fizzing - retention is only average, maybe a little below, and gone within a minute or two. Leaves a small amount of suds on top of the body. Initial lacing looks like it might be ok. Body is on the lighter side for Oktoberfest’s, a lighter copper orange, with yellow hues. High clarity, with a low amount of bubbles coming up. Looks sub par so far.

Caramel and bread notes are a little more subtle than some recent examples I’ve had. Citrus notes come out a little more than usual. Very faint mineral aroma. Also smells more on the drier side than recent examples. Comes across as a more sessionable, bright, and effervescent Oktoberfest. The dryness is not unusual, but bready and overall malty aromas are what make normal Oktoberfest’s so great, especially when paired with great attenuation, so having that subdued is a tiny bit unusual and I would probably prefer the alternative. Either way, smells pretty good.

Flavor is very similar. Bread and caramel are more in the background than I’m used to. The hoppy citrus flavor is not huge, but very noticeable. Not bad, but there isn’t as much flavor as I want out of this style.

Mouthfeel definitely follows suits with the nose, effervescent and bright, dances in your mouth. Carbonation is on the higher side. Body is pretty light. Bitterness is pronounced for the style. Not super dry, but on the drier side. Works for what it is, but again, not what I want in an Oktoberfest.

Drinkability is really high, very sessionable.

Appearance turned out very poor, zero lacing, and no head by the end. A 3 is generous.

Overall this is a pretty good beer but I’m gonna dock it some points for being stylistically off imo, and I little light on flavor. I’m on an Oktoberfest rampage, so I’m very picky at the moment.

12 ounce bottle poured into a dimpled mug.
Bottled 7/23/20

Looks and smells the part but is dryer and less malty than I expected. The feel is nice, smooth and slightly creamy. I will say that it is not as good as the last few collaborations but still a solid brew.

More toward the Marzen style than contemporary fest than their previous efforts, but by far the least interesting so far. Tastes like crystal malt, none of the clean yeast character of a lager, and overall too bitter. Lacks drinkability, which is a key characteristic of a good fest. On the technical side, it is crystal clear, and the carbonation level is nice. But my advice is to skip this beer in 2020, and hope they return to their usual high standards next year.

Much better than last years collab version. Bready nose, good head retention smooth and malty on palate with toffee aftertaste. Slight sweetness but well rounded.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a mug.

L- Clear copper color with a thin layer of white lacy foam.

S - Sweet malty biscuit with hints of butterscotch diacetyl. Smells delicious.

T - Taste is more of the same. Really tasty with a slightly dry hop bitterness in the finish.

F - Mouthfeel is what you'd expect from this style, crisp, light and refreshing,

O - I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this beer. Although I must admit it reminded a little bit of a high quality ESB, it was defiantly enjoyable.
