Beer camp 2011. Pours a light golden amber with a quickly fleeting to fingers of foam. Big notes of bready doughy malts, bright lemon and a floral/ pine note. Smells like a crafty session brew. Taste is pleasant and easy going, with more bready malts, and a crisp light hop finish. Nice carbonation and very refreshing, i could drink this all night. To me a little less of a hop bite and more refreshing than anchor steam at a higher yet unnoticeable abv.

Bottle: Poured a slightly hazy light beige color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of West Cost hops with citrus and pine notes more abundant then expected with some solid cereal notes. Taste is also dominated by some citrus notes and some pine hoppy notes though are offset by some solid cereal notes with limited sweetness. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Well brewed and quite enjoyable though with the amount of hops in this one we are getting away from the style guideline.

Poured into a standard pint glass.
A - Clear golden color with a slight coppery tint. Produced a small bit of froth which displayed mild retention.
S - Apple juice, cereal, and citrus notes. Rather odd, but not at all bad.
T - Moderately hoppy with a sharp bite. Slight metallic tinge can be detected. Fairly simple and industrial tasting, but that fits alright here.
M - Crisp light body, medium carbonation level, finish is remarkably clean.
D - Not bad at all. I wouldn't mind them making this a regular brew, I'd definitely pick some up from time to time.

Also known as Beer Camp California Common.
Thanks to bmanning for bringing over this beer for a recent tasting. Served in a Captain Lawrence tulip.
Pour yields a clear, sparkling gold-bodied brew with a small white head that fades to have some sparse lacing and a bit of a collar. The nose brings forward a moderate amount of bread and grain plus some light floral hops. Good balance between the two and would be nice on a hot summer day. The flavor is also a good balance between the floral hops and grain, though is a bit too grainy. Light body with a mild sweetness and light bitterness. Good carbonation and a slightly-dry finish. Glad to try this. Thanks, Ben.

AKA Best of Beer Camp California Common
A - Pours a brassy golden hue, and is capped with a nice white head which deposits good lace.
S - The nose is somewhat reserved, really at a good level, and offers notes herbal-spicy, and dry-malty. The nose has the slightest hint of caramelization, but no sweetness.
T - The taste is more robust than the nose would suggest, with a moderately-full maltiness and a herbal spiciness that seems equally derived from hops as well as yeast. I really enjoy this, and think it is well-done. My favorite Beer Camp brew thus far.
M - The feel is big but not quite full. It manages to have a great balance between body and tooth and refreshing character. Perfectly enhancing.
O - This beer is a very solid example of the style, and is every bit the equal of Anchor Steam, all while exhibiting a notably different character than the aformentioned.

This beer is an almost amber color that's more a medium yellow with a pale orange hue. A clean, white head remeniscent of latte froth is about a finger tall. it sticks around for the long haul and leaves good, leggy deposits of lacing behind.
There's a light sweetness in a grains background first in the aroma, accentuated by a bready malt and citrusy hops with a touch of pine resin. It goes a little grassy, earthy and a bit spicy with an herbal, nearly vegetal quality lurking.
There's a nice complexity and depth of flavor. Grains and fruity sweetness still rise in the forefront, then back off for a really earthy, piny hops show. As the grassy flavor comes through, it brings with it a ghost of something just slightly metallic and finishes with a similarly ghostly mineral flavor.
This beer's got a bit of heft to it and a bigger body than I expected. Unlike many, this is a beer that starts smooth and takes on some crispness toward the finish. It's nice and clean all the way with moderate carbonation.

Poured into a pilsner glass.
A: Pours a dark golden, almost light brown color. It is quite clear and very carbonated. Due to its high carbonation, it kind of resembles a dark champagne. It has an awesomely thick white head that leaves sheets of lacing along the glass throughout drinking.
S: There's a lot going on here. I've notice some grassy and floral notes, some mild fruitiness, some yeast aromas, hints of spices, a roasted maltiness, and some bready scents. Lot's of complexity.
T: The taste is similar to the smell in that it too is quite complex. There is a slight hoppy bitterness, sweet malts, along with bread and grains.
M: There is a good amount of fizz from the carbonation that fits the drink well, leaving a refreshing, crisp finish. It is very smooth and has a medium body.
D: I'd say this is right up there with anchor steam in the California Common hierarchy. It is very drinkable and I will definitely be trying to find this one again soon.

Sweet and tasty take on a California Common.
Presentation: 12 oz. brown capped bottle. Sierra Nevada´s Beer Camp branding with a recognizable if disconnected Sierra seal on the neck label, and the more contemporary and whimsical motive of the camp and quirky machines from the Camp identity in the main label, here in a green range. Notes Camp #8, year 2011, and 6.5% Alc. by Vol. Served in a tulip glass.
A - Clear deep gold to pale amber pour with a generous frothy head, fair retention and surface memory with good lacing.
S - Soft nose, initial larger sense, bready malts, one skunky second that fades, a touch of fruit, and a lingering fruity malt tone.
T - Sweet malt range with a nice soft bitter sense in the undercurrent. Grassy hint under the soft malt sweetness.
M - Light/medium body with generous carbonation and soft if crisp carbonation with a bit of a syrupy feel.
O - Sweetness remains in the back of the palate as part of a flavorful experience, maybe a bit much for the style but worth it if one is after a steam beer.
Notes: Difficult to compare it within style not having had many steam brews but as a hybrid it seems to fall well within the description of the range. Maybe a bit too sweet and hefty, and I confess not really my thing but it makes for a good brew in any case.

12oz bottle into a Jester King snifter. From the "Best of SN Beer Camp", #8.
Pours with a brassy-straw color; vibrant and clear in the light. The head settles quickly to a patchy wisp of taupe and thick ring of foam. Aroma is dominated by graininess and a hint of cooked corn with herbal-smelling hops in the background.
The flavor of this California Common is a delectable exercise in how to perfectly balance a beer. The malts are sweet and tangy with some golden raisin and toasted bread crust notes, while the hops & yeast accentuate the back end with a pinch of bitterness and lots of floral, fruity flavors. Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated and medium-light on the tongue. Goes down smoothly and finishes clean on the palate. The second best of the Beer Camp mix-pack, and one of the better examples of the style I've had to date. Definitely recommended.

Poured into a pint glass. Appears a very clear, golden orange color with a nice white head. There's not a lot of lacing left, but there is a nice white ring that remains throughout the drinking process.
The aroma is fairly sweet. The nose is dominated by cereal malts and there are also notes of earthy hops. The taste is pretty similar, but is very sweet. The hops stick slightly at the end of each sip, but they aren't overly present.
The mouthfeel is fairly light, but more on the medium side with a nice carbonation level. Each sip gives a nice creamy texture. Overall, a nice brew that really makes you think and focus on the flavors. Definitely something interesting to drink and completely enjoyable.

Out of the beer camp mix pack. Pours a clear golden honey color with a small white head that settled into a light cap.
The aroma is bready with honey sweetness. There is a touch of grain. An overall fruity aroma.
The taste is somewhat grainy and definitely bready. This is mellowed by a honey and brown sugar sweetness. There is an earthy grassy bitterness in the end from the hops. The yeast produces a general fruity flavor that works well with the malt. The flavors aren't mind blowing but it drinks well.
Moderate body with fizzy carbonation. Malty sweet on the palate but it does have a grassy bitter offset to keep the brew in balance.
A beefier than normal California Common, quite bready. Subtle fruity notes from the yeast give the beer some flavor. Drinks very well though a tad filling.
