Appearance: Nearly clear copper color, nice and dense white foam on top. Chunky lacing.

Smell: Grapefruit, pineapple, orange peel, yeast.

Taste: Citrus fruits, mainly grapefruit, nice and bitter without being harsh, bit of grass. Fairly sweet towards the end with a hint of breadcrust.

Feel: Hefty for an IPA. Medium to full bodied, little bit of alcohol warmth, carbonation is spot on.

Overall: Paid $2.71 for a tallboy. Worth it. Good beer.

Type: 19.2-oz. can
Reviewed as: American Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. brandy snifter glass
Price: $2.99
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Jan. 28, 2021
Consumed: Jan. 29, 2021
Misc.: Canned on Dec. 10, 2020

Grabbed a can of this and a host of others on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. Had been eyeing this one for a bit and I think this was the first time I saw it in stores. Sierra Nevada’s site described it as “Make way for the Big Little Thing, an imperial IPA flexing a full malt body, restrained sweetness, and tropical hop flavors of mango, grapefruit and tangerine.” Mentioned hops were Magnum, Crystal, Chinook, Idaho 7, Columbus, Cascade and Mosaic. Usually not a fan of that many hops in a beer, but I’ll always give it a try.

Poured a medium amber clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky off-white head. Could see a few bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. Perfect foamy spiderweb lacing. Perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 5.00)

Right away got that usual Chico yeast in the smell. Also Magnum (mostly have had this with Sierra Nevada), pine, resin, spoiled dark fruit, melon, wood, peach, orange and some mango rind. Not quite as good out of the can. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted at least as good as the nose. In order got Magnum, woody Chinook, pine, resin, pepper, usual Chico yeast, melon, dark berry, peach, orange, mango, grapefruit, herbal and tea. Pretty smooth for 9 pct. ABV though. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Was back and forth on a few categories, but this was outstanding overall. (Overall - 4.00)

Very good taste after the first few sips. Hits pretty hard on taste at the beginning, but once you've had a few sips it goes down smoothly. Very relaxing beer, highly recommended for just hanging with friends or the holidays

Lovely deep golden with great clarity. Thick white head and a lot of sticky lace. Nice retention and a pleasingly slow fade.

Nose is a nice shot of pine and citrus. Just right for this night of the Christmas season. I bit of peppery bite and

Taste is solid and delicious. Big malt core with lots of pale malt sweetness and lightly toasted grains. Alcohol is well integrated and basically invisible. Pine and orange hops that leaves a touch of grapefruit in the the finish.

Super soft mouthfeel upfront with a tingly carbonation. Some heat for the booze and a surprisingly light feel for a beer so big.

Remarkable? No. Highly drinkable and delicious? YES! Way too easy to go through a few of these 19.9 oz cans without a thought and BOOM! You're hammered or well on the way and into your third can. A solid effort that is welcome anytime.

A - Pours out a pale gold color, clear and clean. Short white head, quick fade, moderate thin lacing.

S - Boozy and sharp, with a lemon citrus note, and pine.

T - Open of tart citrus, a line of honey and floral hops, then a sharp hit of acidity and pithy bitterness in the close, and a lingering alcohol note after all else fades.

M - Hot and well carbonated, moderate weight but light for its heft, and a fairly clean close.

O - I wish I liked this one better. Seems slightly off balance, weight and heat coming in over what feels like a smaller beer. Decent but not one I'd stock up on.

PKGD 08/05/21. Poured into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint.

A: Slightly hazy gold hue with 2-finger frothy white head with good retention and thick rings of lacing.

S: Grapefruit and pine carry most of the aroma with a little mint in the background.

T: Flavor is muddled with a nondistinct citrus fruitiness and solid pale malt backbone. Clean with no esters but low-medium bitterness. Alcohol is well-hidden.

M: Drinks light-medium in body with moderate carbonation and dry finish.

O: Solid but unspectacular IIPA. I will re-review with a newer, fresher batch.

Deep gold with a ring/cover leaving splotchy lace. The smell and taste lean towards pine with a hind of mango. Mouthfeel is medium with mild carbonation. I like the fact that this is a 9.1%DIPA..It makes it easier to deal with the wife. lol

Poured into 12 oz. glass. Red gold color. Not as hazy as expected. Clean smell with a stimulating “bite” to the nostrils (probably from the 9.0% ABV). The high alcohol content is not immediately obvious to the pallet and the warmth one typically gets from a high gravity beer sneaks up on you. Hop flavoring is complex - cascade seems dominant. Mouth feel is very satisfying - soft, wet, and full bodied. Good head retention - cream colored, and there is a nice nutty/malt flavor apparent in the foam.

A straight forward, easily accessible DIPA that lacks any sort of pretention. No one will line up for it, it will never be on a Paste magazine ranking list, it is not packed with exotic hops, or is it drowning in lactose. Simple profile, light on the senses, big bodied without being a malt bomb, and routinely less than $10 for a sixer. And yeah, you will feel the abv.

Enjoy it for what it is, and be thankful that in a world of $20+ four packs that it exists at all.

This is a monstrous IPA from the brewer that started it all. A slight sweet malt flavor tames the complexity of the hops somewhat but who cares at 9% ABV!

12 oz can into a 16 oz nonic pint glass.
L: Pours a clear deep butterscotch gold with a stately 3 finger fluffy, rocky off-white head. Excellent retention and lots of skeletal sticky lacing.
S: Caramel malts, floral tropical hops, light alcohol, light yeast.
T: Sweet, rich, malty, light grapefruit, orange, melon and tangerine. Sweet bread, light yeast and pine resin. It has a firm malt foundation.
F: A velvet smooth, fluffy and extremely soft mouthfeel that has a clean medium finish. It is a little bit sticky, lightly drying and full bodied.
O: A very smooth and easy drinking Imperial IPA. With residual sweetness, it's higher ABV is very well masked. A beautiful looking rich, full bodied Sierra Nevada that is excellent in it's style.

Since it was first available in my little town, this has been in the weekly rotation. Poured into a pint glass from a can. Dark golden with a decent head and lacing. Smell is grainy, slightly piney with a little citrus. Taste is clean, balanced and solid. I think it tastes a little like two hearted, at least in the ball park with a similar hop profile. Mouthfeel is just right for a dipa with good carbonation and a smooth clean finish. A really good beer from a really good brewery.

Another good IPA from Sierra Nevada!!!! Poured from a 12 oz.can into a pint glass. This beer is a slightly hazy gold color with a medium size frothy white head. Head retention is good and there are thick bands of lacing on the glass. Aroma and taste include resinous piney hops, some tropical fruit and grainy malt. This is a balanced beer in the sense that there are both a strong malty and a strong hoppy element to it. The bitterness level is pretty high but balanced by a strong malt presence. The malt is more bready than sweet. Mouthfeel is rich from the malt and also the resiny piney hops. While this beer is fairly bitter, the alcohol is fairly well hidden and it is quite drinkable. Sierra Nevada has a way with hoppy beers!!!

I am trying this beer off the tapper at The Daily Growler in Powell, Ohio as part of a six sample flight. It poured a clear golden with thin white ring head that is leaving some lace. The scent had fresh citrus hop notes with subtle pine highlights. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with good west coast pine base and hints of citrus sweetness. The mouthfeel was fuller in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

From a 12 oz. can marked 107098488. Sampled Oct. 10, 2021.

The appearance is golden with a slight chill haze, off-white head, and moderate clarity. If this is supposed to be a hazy one - they did not make it happen. But as a traditional IPA it is acceptable.

Aroma of grainy malts, bread, resin, and light fruit.

The mouthfeel is about medium.

The taste is at first sweet with a grainy malt presence up front and a fruity hop finale. As a traditional IPA, this is done nice.

DATE: September 19, 2021... OCCASION: celebrating a beautiful weekend weatherwise with a departure from the Oktoberfests I have been crushing... GLASSWARE: Citrabellum tulip pokal... a handsome golden copper body teems with subtle bubbles, building a thick, craggy, creamy two-fingered snow-white head... sharp, biting melon, bristling pine, citrus, and a bit of aromatic flowers as well... the malt is wet and bready... a boozy, thick mouthfeel, rattling the teeth and slowly making its way to the throat--no heat with a 9% ABV, instead settling as a pale ale may... rather dry at the finish... its flavor profile is big with lemon, pine, and mango... its bite is palpable, with some hard fruits and candied sugars as well... a big beer that doesn't do anything phenomenally, but it fulfills its promise by delivering a flavorful fruit cup that softly delivers quite a punch...

look: straw, clear, white head,

smell: some malt and melon

taste: very malty, it's not like ipa, there's pine and grapefruit aftertaste

feel: medium-full body, abv is hidden

overall: don't like it, too malty, I'd prefer some stout or Germany beer for the malt taste
