Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.60%

Notes / Commercial Description:
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put —Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped, AND torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Resinous "new-school" and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar, and tropical fruit—all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Our Brewers selected the finest, most flavorful hops, pushed them beyond their limits and forged them into this all-new triple IPA. This reimagined Hoptimum is our hoppiest beer yet, providing a blend of tropical and citrus hop aroma that delivers a refined yet aggressive character.

Bittering hops: Simcoe
Finishing hops: Citra, Chinook, Simcoe.

A: Nice white head easily forms on a shiny dark copper/burnt orange colored body. Carbonation bubbles surface at a steady pace.

S: Fresh pine resin mixed with lemon and grapefruit peel.

T: Simply outstanding. An absolute pine and citrus bomb. Resinous piney hops bombard the palate with tons of flavor and then bring down an iron fist of bitterness. This opens way to tasty flavors of citrus peel and then finishes with pine and a touch of alcohol.

M: Spot on I would say. Not too heavy, oily, or thick, but as light as any single IPA.

O: This is one terrific DIPA. It explodes with hoppiness, and is not at all shy about its crushing bitterness. Hoptimum: not for "girly men".

12 Oz bottle poured into pint glass.

A: Orange, almost copper colored. Fairly clear.

S: Strong pine, hint of grapefruit.

T: Very bitter, solid pine and grapefruit up front. Solid, malty backbone. Lingering finish.

M: Light carbonation, coats the tongue well.

O: Great dipa, wish I could get it more often.

A: Copper/amber in color, leaves a large head if not poured carefully, leaves nice lacing around the glass

S: Lots and lots of pine, honey and caramelized sugar, light citrus, and light bready malts as well

T: Very piney up front with a little honey sweetness to it, good bitterness level comes in, then leaves a slight sweet citrusy after taste and the bitterness slightly lingers, the bitterness is very light in the after taste

M: A little thick for an IPA IMO but still very smooth, a little oily and almost sticky, interesting but awesome mixture

O: Amazing IIPA, definitely one of my new favorites, wish there was a little more citrus flavors in it, but still outstanding from SN, definitely buy if you see it

Pours almost a bronze. Head pours two fingers thick, off-white and far from dense. Pretty good lacing.

Grapefruit is the strongest scent, by far. THat is followed by grass and orange. SOme good malt sweetness comes through while a little pine makes a nice backdrop.

For being so hoppy, this is a pretty malt forward beer. I definitely get some tangerine and grassy taste here.

Decent bit of body. The ehad is relaxed but just manages to stimulate the tongue and back of the throat. Definitely bitter, but well balanced. Oddly enough, the malt sweetness tends to dissipate behind the bitterness as it sits.

Pretty balanced. I like how it switches from malty to bitter, makes a pleasant adventure each sip. SN did really well here. On a side note--just noticed its 10.4%...what! Wow love it even more now. While you can taste the alcohol, I would not have guessed more than 9%.

This beer was incredibly bitter and very disappointing. I am a IPA and double IPA lover and this beer was difficult to even sip. I suspect that it was the hop character that was just off base, but I'm candidly not sure why it has received so many accolades.

A – Bright copper, pours quite thick and sticky. Transparent body shows slowly rising bubbles. Head is thin, and leaves more legs than it does leave lacing.

S – Big hop bomb. Orange peel, lemon rind, pine, and honey. Very hop forward, there are some light malt notes as well, but who cares about those when the hop aroma is so great.

T – Big, bitter, sticky, and resinous. Mostly sweet here, sticky hop notes of orange and pine. There is a bitterness here, but it is covered up by the huge, borderline cloying malty backbone. It is so sticky and bitter it's almost like chewing on candied hops.

M – Full bodied and heavy, finish is infinite and keeps developing new flavors. This is a huge beer, to be blunt.

O – A great experience, though it borderlines on excess, which is strange from this particular brewer. It manages to find balance in it all somehow, though. Truly great beer here. Wish it were year round.
