Notes / Commercial Description:
A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put —Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped, AND torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Resinous "new-school" and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar, and tropical fruit—all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

Our Brewers selected the finest, most flavorful hops, pushed them beyond their limits and forged them into this all-new triple IPA. This reimagined Hoptimum is our hoppiest beer yet, providing a blend of tropical and citrus hop aroma that delivers a refined yet aggressive character.

Bittering hops: Simcoe
Finishing hops: Citra, Chinook, Simcoe.

I really didn’t much care for this one. For one the hop bouquet was musty and dank with nothing in particular raising to the top. Another reason was that the flavor was basically just bitter without any hop taste. Perhaps this was old for I did not check for a date on the bottle.

Appearance: A dark copper colored IPA. Beautiful cascade of lacing on the glass. Thin head but not necessary for this brew.

Smell: BOOM! HOPS! There's an overall round hop aroma with some lime citrus aroma undertones which really make the hop presence pop. The aroma burst out of the bottle as I opened it, really a bold aroma.

Taste: Hops blast at the front of this beer but my favorite part of this beer is the pine flavor that dominates this beer. Refreshing, almost a syrup flavor after the initial hop attack. Really wonderful, there is a high alcohol content but does not interfere with this beer.

Mouthfeel: A sticky feeling to this beer. The hops continue bounce around your palette after drinking this beer. The pine accents also provide quite a bit of body for this brew.

Overall: Awesome IPA. Need a hop fix? This beer will do the job. But so complex and layed, this beer really makes you question what aspects of a great IPA are really your favorite.

Hoptimum pours a clear copper color, with a small lacing head. There is a strong hop aroma, nothing else, just hops. The taste is the same a strong floral taste; very hoppy. Good full flavor, and enjoyable on the pallet. Overall a clear cut simple, and powerful IPA.

12 oz bottle poured into oversize tulip

A - Light amber body with a finger and a half pale head. OK Lacing.

S - This is a great smelling DIPA. Tons of grape fruit and floral tones.

T - Pretty solid hop punch, much more oily than some other 100 IBU DIPA's I've had. Some prefer it, It's not really for me. There are also some very earthy malts coming through, though this is definitely no where close to being balanced, which is to be expected.

M - The body is light, but has a sticky aftertaste from the hops.

O - Great DIPA, not exactly what I look for in a DIPA, but there's no denying that it's good.
